Just putting this out there to see if there’s any interest.

So it’s over 5 years since the last one of these, time for another?

Location: I’m thinking Stocking lane again; close to city so convenient to many people; it’s a nice climb and there’s a natural gathering place at the top. Kilmashogue is another possibility.
Kilternan to Glencullen is another option, this has the added bonus of Johnny Fox’s at the top for refuelling..thoughts?

Timing: Last time there was manual timing with stopwatches etc. I’m too lazy for this myself. We could use Strava? Open to other ideas

Date: A weekend in March. Saturday 25th?Doesn’t clash with any sportives or races according to the CI calendar

Sounds good. I think the Vets might kick off the following day. Otherwise I'm in.

    Kilternan to Glencullen

    This.
Johnny Fox’s at the top for refuelling

    And this.

( I would just start it from behind the bend )

    Hill of Tara would suit

Post up a Northside option and I'll put it in a poll

I'd be happy with 9am start. I guess the good thing about doing it on strava is you could set off anytime that morning if you really needed to.

And trust that one doesn't get a young buck of a mountain goat to ride a bike with one's garmin up the hill :)

    Is there weight categories??

Northside would have to be Snowtown from either side. You can match your time against the Ras'rs when they go over it a few weeks later!

There'll be hot competition for that!

Sounds like a good idea ... and a good laugh for those of us who wouldn't be competing for any prizes!

Stocking lane is a good choice! Judging by the last results just not coming last would be a result for me :)

I think there should be an age and weight combined section :)

As a old lad carrying a few pounds, I thoroughly concur. Also a category for those of us who are still horrendously crap climbers even when old age and extra poundage are taken into account.

Can I just get my DNF now?

Stepaside village (Sepaside Lane) to Glencullen? Nothing like a good 20% ramp after the start to get the circulation going....

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,121 ✭✭✭daragh_

Voted for Stocking Lane. Mainly because I haven't gone up it for ages so the pain has faded.

Kilternan to Glencullen is where my Club has it's annual 'fun' hillclimb TT. It's not fun at all but we get an 99 at the end.

Burrow Road is a bit more gradual I think. We could always start on Stepaside Lane?

Voted for kilternan as it's the closest one to me!!

Would also vote for a weight handicap system ;)

Is someone bringing a scales? If not how will I verify my 105kg?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,098 ✭✭✭NamelessPhil

There could always be a "Guess your time" competition. The person who gets closest to their estimated time wins, but they'd have to ride with no computer.

I have fond memories of winning a two-person TT hamper race with doozerie 20+ years ago. We guessed our time within 20 seconds.
