So we're coming off a pretty controversial Mania this week. I've heard some claim it's the worst they've seen in a long time and others say it's the lamest ever! Are they judging too harshly? Is it too early to tell? I'm taking thebostoncrab's 'worst' idea and putting it into this tournament as I feel it can be kinda fun to take a few shots at the sport we all love... and also that Wrestlemania X7 will probably just win a 'best of' anyway. There have been 32 WrestleMania cards to date and that syncs up perfectly with tournament style play.

I will go with WrestleMania 9 because at least WM 15 had Rock v Austin.

WM 7. 25 had Michaels v Taker plus MITB. The World title triple threat wasn't terrible and neither was Hardy vs Hardy. Slaughter main eventing a WM really makes me cringe

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,665 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Wrestlemania 7, The slaughter main event was terrible and iirc they had to move venue late in the day to one around 1/4 the size of the original one because ticket were so bad (or as they said because of heel slaughter there were "bomb threats")

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

I'll cast a vote for 7 here too. I abhor Slaughter and anything to do with him.

Super Stars and Stripes might not last forever but they do go through to Round 2 here.

Has to be 2. Savage VS Hogan with both dressed in pink tutus would be better than Hogan VS Bundy... Just saying.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

WrestleMania II. They could have done a lot more with it. There's only one really great match.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Gotta pick Mania 2 here as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

WrestleMania 2 has the distinction of sucking in 3 different cities all at once. for shame. Next up we have two WM's emanating from the Sunshine State. Which was the weaker event?

Thats a tough one, because both were decent.

    I'll go with 28.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

This is a tough one, both I feel were great manias.

    But I'll go with 28

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 51,148 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Both decent shows, both nowhere near the worst... Process of elimination - I'll go with 24. Cena v Rock and the Hell in a Cell rematch more enjoyable to me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Wrestlemania 24 is one of my favourites. Has the best ever use of a celebrity in a match, a class Money in the Bank bout and anything with this in it is epic...

    tumblr_mm741oqek81qmun4oo1_400.gif

I vote 28 as the weaker.

Once in a Lifetime goes on. I wonder will it be met later by Twice in a Lifetime.

    8. Hogan got a main event that he really shouldn't have, instead of the last match being the title match. 14 had the first reign of the rattlesnake, a match I enjoyed between Kane and Undertaker, and a kinda surprisingly fun dumpster match.

All of this, and well - Tyson. Another vote for 8 from me

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

I have a soft spot for 8, but Mania 14 was class. First Taker / Kane match, what a build that was.

    Ya, 8 for me

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,815 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

Yeah, I'd have a soft spot for both too. Used to be my go to VHSs. I think 8 probably gets ragged on worse than deserved. That said I'd class 14 as one of the top 5 underrated PPVs ever.

    8. For this reason.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

8 for one 14 was a great event. 8 was good nothing special

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

The Austin Era was kicked off on this night and sends WM 8 into Round 2. Two teens up next.

Oh boy, two kinda disappointing shows that managed to have pretty iconic matches in Rock vs. Hogan and Stone Cold vs. Bret Hart.

13 edges it for me, but not by a massive margin. I think X8 suffered by being the mania after 17 too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,741 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

WM 18, Stone Cold vs. Bret Hart > Rock vs. Hogan

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 51,148 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

I dunno.... Both had dodgy main events but both had iconic matches. Rock v Hogan just trumps it for me as a spectacle. WM 13 although 18 will probably advance here

18 wasn't THAT horrendous of a card. The only redeeming feature for 13 is Austin/Hart.

When it comes to truly "Wrestlemania"y feeling supershows. Wrestlemania 13 comes from a span of four to five years where mania didn't feel massive.

    13.
