Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sorry to hear about Wickes. Went in there once to price a kitchen. The guy was busy with another customer and I eventually left without speaking to him. I mentioned this to my neighbour, not knowing he knew the manager. Next thing I know I got a call apologising and they arranged an appointment for me to go in. Ended up getting the kitchen unit, cooker a and my bathroom tiles in there after. Great customer service.

Sorry to see it go. I found them the most resonably priced of all the DIY chains.

Not a great part of the city to open a family diner. Dunno what they were thinking tbh.

    Sad about the Belltable.

Wow that didn't last long. Shame. Suppose they didn't have much of a chance with Goodfellas in Greenpark. As far as I know, they have a good reputation, solid clientele and I'm sure the handy parking is a plus.

Same as mate, I was heading in today to renew my membership...got chatting to one of the lads who worked there, they'd not been paid for nearly 2 weeks and were only told this morning they were closed...

Looking for a new gym is going to be a complete nightmare

    Link for Punches closure.

Does not make for nice reading with regards to the amount of money owed to staff, or with regards to them not going to refund gym membership fees.

Hopefully that sliver of hope mentioned in the article comes about.

Agreed lads. Absolutely fuming over it. Had my membership paid until August. Raging and my bank have told me that although I paid by Card, I paid by debit rather than credit card and have no comeback. So there goes 130 quid just pis*ed down the drain. I would encourage anyone who paid by credit card to get their money back that way. But I think its now come to a stage where people should stand up and say to companies like this to stick their heads where the sun aint shining. Its gone beyond ridiculous the amount of companies just packing up and saying F**K the staff (excuse my french). The staff always lose out and its terrible because the staff are the ones who keep the place afloat by all rights and they get Sh*t for thanks at the end of the day. Long gone are the days where staff were actually rewarded for their hard days work. Now they cant even get paid in some cases. In the case of the gym, members always lose out. All I can say is what they have done to the gym members, the staff, the couples who had paid deposits for weddings, it is downright wrong. People lose out on their money without getting a service and just off they go, hand it back to Bank of Scotland and walk away not only with their own money in their back pocket but everyone elses too and also with no loss to themselves. How would they feel if I walked into the gym and picked up a set of dumbbells or carted out one of their weight benches id be arrested on the spot for "stealing", charged and brought before the courts. Why in gods name is it when these bigshots do it to the smaller person that its perfectly acceptable. 21st century Ireland and this is how were treated. Yes I understand it is a Private limited company so they can just walk away with no loss but in all honesty its becoming too much of a bloody habit these days. Why is it always the small person who gets screwed over.

Just to reply on this one, was told by someone who knows her quite well that shes running it from her home now. It was something to do with rent and rates being rather high I think. Its good to see that although her shop has closed she is actually still working. It makes sense alright when you consider how ridiculously high the rates are in this city. Very hard for a small business like that to survive whilst paying out so much in rent and rates.

I'll tell you why. It's because the law is on their side. And we all know who our lawmakers are... that shower of 166 we elect every four or five years!

I imagine it was hard to compete with Gleeson's Spar just down the road.

Things like the deli were far superior.

Would think that, area is plagued with them since wet house moved to Alphonsus St.

Pity shop closed, used to go there nearly every day, staff were always nice and friendly so sad to see them lose their jobs. Also shop had the most temperamental ATM in Limerick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,152 ✭✭✭✭Berty

I was in there last week to use the ATM but hasn't been in there in years. Honestly I thought the shop was very tired looking and was nowhere near the more updated looking spars and is not helped when BWG make the spar down the road from you a flagship store.

I also worked there for several years, It was a great shop, with great staff. And some great Customers, who ill remember forever, good and bad :)

In regards to the Gleeson down the road, yes it had a superior Deli, But We held our own. We had our regular customers just like any where else.

In regards theft, Yes we had a big issue with it. For many reasons. But the Owner, manager and staff all have stopped and caught people stealing in that store. From a 8 year old disabled child to a 87 year old lady.

I wish all staff, manager and owner the best in the future.

    Sean

Rococo on Thomas St. has closed but the Adare branch is staying open.
House of Norden is closing its shop on Catherine St. but will continue trading online.
The Design Atelier on Sarsfield St. has closed and the owner has opened a new place in Nenagh.
