Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yup that explains it. Guess I'll just have to flash another ROM to get it working?

Maybe, but are you in an area where 4G has been rolled out? Maybe you want to see if its available in your area first.

Yeah I've been in and around Dublin city for the last week. I know its definitely disabled on my device because I don't get the option in my network mode settings:

I get those exact same 3 options when I go to that menu "Network options". Try clicking on "Network operators" instead, then "Search networks" and see if you get "3 RAT: LTE" and select that. You might need to try several times, waiting a few minutes in between. I had to do it a couple of times myself.

Also, I find that 4G coverage is not 100% complete even in parts of Dublin 2. Also, sometimes it comes and sometimes it goes... it's a bit sketcy still.

  • Registered Users Posts: 92 ✭✭Dublin Deluge

OK, it looks like when you go to that "preferred network mode", the phone overrides your LTE settings. Try following these steps in this order:

    1. On phone, dial 3845#*802#
    2. Select "LTE / GSM" (Hidden Menu -> LTE-Only -> Modem Settings -> RAT Selection -> LTE / GSM)
    3. Go to "Mobile networks" menu, then: Network operators -> Search networks -> select "3 RAT : LTE" -- If this option does not appear in menu, repeat from step 1.

As I stated before I can't get into the LTE part of the hidden menu, just get the 'Not Supported' error message and there is no option for Three LTE in the network search where I've very good signal in Dublin city centre. I'll keep checking for the LTE network but I'm still pretty certain 4G/LTE is simply not enabled in my software version. It's a shame I can't find someone who has the same software version and is with three? I'm reading guides on how to root and install a different ROM so will report back in a few days when I've done that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 92 ✭✭Dublin Deluge

I see. Yes, it looks like your ROM is not supporting it. Good luck in updating it. Or perhaps you can wait till LG rolls out Kit Kat.

Nah didn't bother flashing a new ROM with Kit kat supposedly very close? I'm going to bring it in to Three this week and ask them to put one of their 4G enabled sims in it to ensure that isn't it? My sim card is about 3 years old so might be a chance that's the problem?

I only got my sim last month so I dont think thats the problem. Might see if kitkat fixes it too, dont want to mess up my warranty by flashing roms

Hi, interested in this phone, does the KitKat update not have to be rolled out through a phone operator - how will we get it in Ireland if we just have jelly Bean on current model ?

Would I be better waiting to buy one from Amazon that has Kit kat already installed ?

Sorry if the question seems stupid !

KitKat is due to be released in march but that wouldn't put me off buying this phone. KitKat offers very little over 4.2.2.

I had KitKat on my nexus and the only change I noticed was worse battery life.

Thanks for the response re timing of purchase. Just trying to understand though, and if I was to buy on Amazon or Expansys, and how do the updates work? How would it pick up any updates/fixes if LG aren't extending them through the provider?

Do you get where I'm coming from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 433 ✭✭puppetmaster

I would have assumed it rolls out directly from LG also if sim free? Similar to how a tablet updates.

I got a lg g2 delivered from HK
and within 10 mins after switching it on, it updated itself from the LG server.
    About 26 mbs.

    Hey,

I'm upgrading from my HTC One Mini and at the moment it is either the LG G2 or SGS4. Has anybody had the opportunity to use both of the phones. At the moment I'm leaning towards the LG G2 but I know the SGS4 is amazing. Just wouldn't mind having something different.

The camera would be pretty important for me too so if there was a clear winner there it'd be good to know. From online reviews it seems the G2 is better indoors but most of them seem to ignore other shooting modes.

    I've had both phones.
Maybe I'm biased as I've grown tired of Samsung over the years but for me the LG is the better phone, heck it's probably going to be better than the S5 imo.

Great screen and camera with a much better battery imo.

Won't go wrong with either phone but if you can get the G2 for cheaper or around the same price then I'd definitely go with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭Kevcol

That's great, kind of what I was hoping to hear. I had the S4 before an I loved it but would love something different. It got robbed though so bought a HTC One Mini as a replacement but it's just not in the same league.

Can you buy the G2 'International' phone from Amazon. Will this work in Ireland?

Yep, that's where most people get them, I got mine from the French Amazon as it was 50 euro cheaper.

I just see that it's 300 on Amazon but just remember the G3 is due out in July.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭Kevcol

Ya I saw that too but I think I'll go for the 32GB one anyway. Maybe I should wait a month or two to see if price will go down. Selling my HTC One Mini at the mo though so the price of that might go down in the meantime. Would you think it'd come down much after the launch?

It will surely go down in price once the G3 is released but that might not be for 4 months.

Went ahead and ordered it. Too impatient to wait that long. Can't wait :)

Anyone order from http://www.eglobalcentral.eu/ (site was mentioned earlier in thread)?

  • Registered Users Posts: 776 ✭✭✭TwoMums2Be

Could you tell me whether you buy your 32gb versions directly from amazon or from a seller (& if a seller which one). I can't find the 32gb directly from amazon so I'm looking for a reliable seller :)
    Many Thanks

I got my g2 from this site, fast delivery about a week.
    Great phone and free postage.
I got the 32 gb because the internal memory takes up about 6 gb.

Is it a European version of the phone or a different version? Does this matter when using the phone?

Could you tell us a bit more:

Did you have to pay any vat or customs fees etc.?
What charger plug did it come with?
Is it any/LG warranty on it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply

    I've read that alright.
I've also seen mixed feedbacks online, some people saying it was alright some people said that they still had to pay customs, that's why I'm asking.

What do you mean normal charger? UK plug or European?

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 776 ✭✭✭TwoMums2Be

    It's D80210e-ESA-XX

I think "ESA" might mean East South Asia. The leaflets and stickers that came with the phone were in Thai. So I think it might have been imported from there. The package I received came from London, though.

Jonnybegood is your software EUR as mentioned in this post above or ESA?
    Thank you :)

You'd pick up a new UK spec one on Adverts. ie for not much more than 350, with the quick window case

Got my 32GB 802 from eglobalcentral today, fast delivery and no VAT or customs. Charger is 2 pin but came with adapter. No OS update as yet, running 4.2.2, software version is D80210c-TWN-XX

Wifey got the 4.4 update on her AT&T D800 a couple of days ago. Visually there's not much difference tbh... though I'm sure the claims made by LG regarding speed/battery in the video are valid

Hi folks, I thinking of buying either the lg g2 or the nexus 5 and need some advise. I'm useless when it come to the hardware spec etc so just looking for some practical advise. I'm looking for something for everyday use with a good camera and battery (my current apple phone lasts half a day max). Also I see a lot of people hae bought from expansy, I assume they are reliable?? Thanks!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭Kevcol

I bought mine from Amazon so can't help you with expansy. Got mine just the other day and love it so far. Overall the LG would have better spec, particularly with regard to the camera and the battery. I bought mine from Amazon.

Little tip: I bought the Spizen cover for my phone and I love it. Really stylish and gives good protection too. Was pricey but I feel it was worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭Alpha Dog 1

Yeah the LG has a much better camera and battery. Bought mine from Amazon aswell. Absolutely love the phone. You won't regret buying it.

Is anyone using a screen protector? With a 20 month old it is going to be essential really :)

Also interested in what cases others are using if any....as above a case will be essential protection!

    Hey guys,

I'm bck again. I have just noticed that I have the Asian software on my phone. Does this make any difference to it? I know it doesn't at the moment but will it make a difference in the future if I want updates or anything like that?

    Thanks

Ok so for those of you who chose to purchase from amazon directly (not a marketplace seller) whether the uk, France, Germany etc why did you choose to buy from amazon over the likes of e global central? Was it for warranty, trust in the company, wary of getting caught for customs/fakes or anything else?

What benefits are there to having a European version versus an Asian version, if any?
