Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Deactivation is not permanent.
    I don't recollect deactivating mine when doing a PS3 to PS3 transfer.
Are you sure you have to deactivate? Not just an option?
You will be reactivating on your new PS3 - all your dlc will be there for you.
    It's to prevent "game sharing".

Meant to get back to this the other day. It is definately not only an option and i do have to deactivate the source console. Another issue is that i have to get a 'split' Ethernet cable i think it's called as the machines aren't recognising the standard cable. Also if I'm transfering from one PS3 to another i have to format the second PS3 which I'm not prepared to do, just going to get an external hard drive it seems much less hassle.

I just YLOD (again) so I'm going to buy a slim PS3 I'm just wondering about the slims, is it as easy to add a new hard drive and if I take the hard drive from the YLOD PS3 (because its a 500gb I put in myself) will it have my save games?

Also can't believe my bad luck with this happening the week the cloud came out, only game I'd backed up so far was Plants Vs Zombies. Was going to do the rest over the weekend.

how old is it your warranty may still apply and even if it doesn't your consumer right would be addition to that.

it is easy to take that 500GB out and put it in a new slim but you'll have to format the hard drive before it'll work after putting it in the PS3 so you can't get the old saves off it.

I got half way through my saves may finish it soon to prevent this.

im told 80 euro to fix this problem from theese guys .sounds better than 120 from sony and geting a refurbished heap o crap

A refurb is probably better than a fix. My refurb just YLOD but I've had it 3 years now and its played an awful lot. My brothers YLOD'd last year and we fixed it (reflow) but its gave up again about a month later, reflowed again but only lasted a week that time so we gave up and he bought a slim.

Its well past the warranty, its a refurb anyway as I had a laser problem originally and even then that was nearly 3 years ago.

Are you saying I have to format the drive again? Its already in a PS3 will it not just swap over? Thats a concern I've quite a few films on it too. If thats the case I might reflow it just to get all my stuff off it.

    Do its well worth it.

Another thing, I'm now thinking of trying to get a refurb if I can get one quickly enough, The only thing with that is my copy of Fifa 11 is stuck in the machine, anyway to get it out without opening the PS3?

The hard drive is encrypted to that PS3 and a new one will not read it, it format the drive when you try to start it up with the new PS3.

Thanks for the advice lads. Got me game back. Not sure how much I care about most of my game saves TBH, the main ones are online games so I might see if I can get a refurb.

My PS3 just got the YLOD, it's well out of warranty. Is there any repair shops in Dublin that can fix it? And would it even last very long if I got it fixed in that manner? Will Sony give me a new one if I send it in to them for whatever price they're asking €160(?), or just fix my old one and send it back. Will it matter to them if the security sticker is missing in this case?

There are places in Dublin that fix them. They will offer a warranty of 3 months for the repair. I got mine done but it only lasted ~1 week. Was able to back up all my stuff on the PS3, so was well worth it for me.

You get a refurb for €160, not a new one.
However, with the sticker gone, I doubt they will help you.

Know your rights dude, take it back to the shop and demand they either refund you, repair it or replace it. Warrant means nothing as it's merely an addition to your rights already established in law.

Just to add, the contract you made when you bought the console was with a shop not with Sony so refuse at all times to deal with Sony if the shop you bought it in is telling you to contact them.

I bought it in Zaavi in Tallaght, which no longer exists.

I'm not too sure on this one. You might need an expert. Maybe try the Consumer forum and/or consult one of the following agencies:

    http://www.consumerconnect.ie/eng/Hot_Topics/FAQs/If-a-company-closes-down/

As far as I know HMV acquired some of the interests of Zavvi. In the likes of Dundrum HMV opened up a shop in the unit Zavvi had been trading in but obviously not in the case of the Square, Tallaght.

It's worth a shot at the least before sinking money into a new machine or a repair.

Just got a new 250gig slim. I've been putting a few bits and bobs on it, picures and downloaded some demos. In under system info at "Free space" it reads: 171/232 GB... where's the rest of my hard drive space gone?

    For one I didn't download 80gigs of demos in 3hrs and secondly shouldn't it say /250GB ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 528 ✭✭✭rampantglory

No hard drive is what it says it is capacity wise , my phone is 16 gb but when I "look" at it it's 14.3. Thats normal!!
Now after the os , pics games movies etc it not unusual to use up a fair few gigs I'm using about 89 gb on mine without pics or movies just game saves demo and a few dlc

I am probably missing a large thread but has anyone had issues with the 3.56 update? Havent been online in a while and the last update didnt seem to be recognised, i.e. installed but kept getting prompted to update. Downloading 3.60 now which hopefully resolves.

    Hey guys,
Got my PS3 back today after it the YLOD. When I turned it on there was a system update so I downloaded it, but it keeps coming up as an error when I try to install. It says to unplug the AC power cord and restart the console. I tried this 3 times but no joy. Error code is 8002F1F9, anyone know what the problem is?

P.S The controller also won't connect unless I use the USB

You got it back from Sony?

No, local computer shop done it. The PS3 is four years old, its the 60gb version

Are you sure it doesn't say DO NOT unplug the AC power cord and restart the console? Seems odd that it would tell you to do that.

Also, that error code doesn't seem to be on Sony's database.

    Yep, Im sure. Its says:

    "<Suggested Actions>
Press the power button on the front of this system until the system beeps. Next, unplug the AC power cord from the elctrical outlet. After a few minutes, restart the system. The update will resume automatically when the system is restarted.

If the update fails again, write down error code "8002F1F9" and then contact technical support for assistance"

Re-download the update to a USB and update the PS3 with it.

I just put that error code into google and the first thing to pop up said that it's happening for both internet and usb updating.

Bring it back to where you got it 'fixed'. They should have some guarantee in place to cover you.

Hey, over the last week or so my ps3 has started freezing and I can only turn it off by pulling out the power cable(I know I shouldn't). When I turn it back on a message comes up saying the hard drive is corrupted. It then rebuilds it and all is well for a while but it happens again next time I turn it back on.

    Its a 250gb and is 1y 3m's old.

Anyone know what the hell is up with it?

Maybe pre YLOD :( try another hard drive, if this does not fix your problem. Then I think you have a yellow light coming, I repaired a YLOD last week on a 250gb slim around the same age as yours.

That provoked a tear. I only held it back so my girlfriend wouldn't see me crying.... again. The memory of my last Ps3's death is still oh so fresh.

Are you living in Dublin ? I have a couple of spare drives, I could put one in your Ps3. That way you'd know one way or the other.

Try giving Sony a ring. It's still fairly close to the 'expiry' of your warranty. They might be obliging..... who knows. Worth a shot. Give em some sob story, ya hear?

You could have a chat with the shop where you bought it.
If you get no joy there, there is always the SCC.

I have trawled through this thread but my issue doesn't seem to have been dealt with. I have a 60gb PS3 which I bought second hand on adverts.ie. It has been repaired at some stage, the fan was the problem. It was working fine until I got angry playing FIFA and slapped the top of it. It turned off and now whenever I go to turn it on the light goes green, then the machine beeps and the light turns yellow before red i.e. it is broken.

Would anybody know of a place that could give me a quote on fixing the PS3 before they actually go about fixing it? Because I don't want to spend €100 fixing it when I can just save up a bit more and buy a new PS3
