Anyone know if there's HD ports of Final Fantasy on PS3/4? The non-HD version's looks awful on my TV. Would love to take another stab at VIII.

The steam version of VII and the HD remasters of X and X-2 are available on the PS4. A HD remaster of XII was also just announced on Monday.

My Fire Emblem LE finally arrived from Amazon today, Atelier Sophie arrived as well.

World Of Final Fantasy live stream from earlier, it looks like Nomura is doing the designs and Hamauzu is doing the score, one of the dungeons shown really looks like the Train Graveyard from VII.

Started FF13-2 again, needed something more relaxed to play and have to say I forgot how much fun it is. Really getting a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Pity the PC port is atrocious. You have to mod it to fix some issues like the rain effect and even at that the game barely hits 30 fps with frame drops programmed into the actual game so no matter how powerful your system is it will still drop frames. As for the game it's a bit janky and experimental but I'll take that over whatever the hell FF13 was.

Atelier Firis first trailer, some of those locations look really nice.
Just hoping it has combat either like Mana Khemia or Iris 2 now

Finished it over the weekend, the game was still as much fun for me nearly 10 years later, now to get Grand Kingdom finished before Star Ocean comes out next week.

Not surprising, the last one did as well.

The last game was an amazing battle system but the producer wanted to make borderline hentai ( and admitted as much proudly ). Bob Mackey at least has been kind in his first impressions. Fun battle system but a story that takes everything from the well of anime tropes. Good enough for me. A good Tri Ace battle system is better than most JRPG guff.

I liked SO4 myself only regret was getting the original 360 version instead of the PS3 version. The amount of disc swapping required later on was a pita.

Anyone pick up the Vita version of Adventure of Mana that snook onto PSN earlier?

Great sales on PSN on the moment. I might buy a couple of PS3 games as a last hurrah before I get a ps4.

Shame about Star Ocean, I always loved the first two. The camera seems to be a big issue too.

I see that Tales of Zestiria is on sale for €25 on PSN. What's the verdict on it? Worth it at that price?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,870 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

It's the usual Tales game. Plays it very safe and a story filled with anime tropes.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,870 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

    There's a FF7 monopoly coming out.

That's too much Weeaboo for one day.

Nope, it has an incredibly boring and uneventful story, that's frankly just stupid a lot of the time. Play the xillia games instead if you havent already and if you have, I'd say hold out for Berseria. Zestiria is probably the worst Tales game I've played in a long time, since Symphonia 2

Seems Bob Mackey changed his tune on Star Ocean, 2.5/5. Too much backtracking and just quite bland, especially for a Tri-Ace game.

    I'll still pick it up.

Not sure if it's Tokyo Xanadu or Xanadu Next but the guys at HG101 do be raving about how it's far and away the best action RPG ever made. The other is meant to be pretty special itself.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 80,790 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sephiroth_dude

Its not the ps4 one , theres no plans currently to bring that over to the west.

Deep Silver look to be taking over publishing ATLUS games including SEGA games like 7th Dragon so it looks like nothing should fall through the cracks from the NISA break up.

Fyi if anyone is looking to pick up Star Ocean 5 it is currently €40 for the standard edition on Amazon.

    Interested in playing something new on Vita and the store has some jrpgs featured right now. A few caught my eye that I've never played;

    Trails of Cold Steel
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
    Tales of Hearts R
    Disgaea 4
    Ys: Memories of Celceta
    Valkyria Chronicles 2

    Any recommendations from among those?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,870 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

If you are interested in FF Tactics then play Tactics Ogre instead. FF Tactics is amazing but the PSP version of Tactics Ogre is even better (made by mostly the same team as well so it's very similar).

Trails is awesome but can be very text heavy so doesn't suit everyone and is slow to get going.

Tales of Hearts R is mediocre
Disgaea can be an acquired test.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 I enjoyed despite the god awful story. Sunk 120 hours into it.

Ys Celceta like all the Ys games is an absolute blast.

    Trails of cs

are the two I would pick personally, haven't played the others bar ToHR Which I would avoid.

Get Trails and Ys, specifically avoid Valkyria 2

    Avoid Valkyria 2?

Sure the story is complete and utter scutter but the gameplay is solid. I really enjoyed the missions in the game.

The missions are terrible, tiny repetitive little maps used over and over, no large unique maps, no massive set pieces, almost every boss is a fake valkyrur.

Valkyria 2 is like homeopathic Valkyria, you're arguing it's good based on containing traces of memories of Valkyria :pac:

Fair enough. I found the gameplay solid and rather enjoyed it myself now. Got me through writing my PhD thesis where I'd play it for 2 hours before bed every night which was the only break I had so I'm very grateful to the game for keeping me sane!

Think both Ys:Memories of Celceta and Cold Steel are down in price until Tuesday as part of the Big in Japan sale.

I would recommend Ys: The Oath in Felghana if you are going down that route :) Definitely found Celceta one of the weaker entries in the series - Felghana is a much more focused and enjoyable IMO!

I got it for 6 dollars a few weeks ago, it's ok. I'm not really a fan of idol stuff but the battle system borrows heavily from the Trails series and the dungeons have a Breath of Fire/metroidvania style system where every character has a unique ability for getting into new places.

The story has a great sense of humour for the first few chapters but when it tries to become more serious it just becomes dull

7th Dragon 3DS looks great. Hope it doesn't take too long for Deep Silver to publish it over here.
