Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thanks but the difference in app availability is well documented and I've already stated that that is what would entice me to buy an android phone.

What I was hoping for was some feedback on changing OS, the general user experience, OS stability re. random crashes and freezes etc. stuff like that.

Why bring your query off thread? This thread is about the Moto G, not Android as an OS!

Because the question is specifically connected to buying a Moto G, but now that I thought I'd made my mind up Amazon.co.uk are showing "Usually dispatched within 1 to 4 months." :(

nothing to do with Moto G really

    Maybe worth a new thread
I too would be interested in hearing stories and comparisons of people who have converted between different OS's

Would if I could but I'm in Sweden so no Parcel Motel here!

Amazon.co.uk will deliver here with Super saver delivery if it were available

.de are €169 + delivery so not nearly so attractive.

OK I've been playing the Moto G all day and I've one complaint...

You cannot rearrange the Apps in the app menu. The only go by alphabetical order.

Now 90% of people aren't going to care about not being able to rearrange the Apps. I'm a freak & care!

    There, I said it.

I think you can sort apps as you like in either Apex or Nova, or both, can't remember. I also can't remember if you can do it in the free version of either.

    It's Android.
Don't like something? Switch it out! I'd personally recommend Apex as it's very like stock and is also very customisable.

Installed Apex. Pretty good launcher! Really customizable, even let's you turn on badges on icons to show missed notifications. Impressed. Still battling with rearranging the app drawer though. You can sort of rearrange it, well, put all your social apps in one folder, your games in another folder and so on. Still no real way to drag and rearrange. Never the less, 4.5 out of 5 from me!

    Hi folks,

I am very interested in getting the 16GB version of this, seems fantastic value, especially from Tesco Direct.

I have already been on the Tesco Direct web site, and turned on a "Stock Alert", which means they will e-mail me when it becomes available again.

I am just wondering about delivery to Parcel Motel, will there be a problem, how do I put in my PM number in the address field??

Are there any traps or tricks regarding Irish Credit/Debit cards, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

The tesco version has a modified ROM, wonder will that slow down the updates to it ??
Has anyone with has the Tesco one spotted any difference?
Wonder did they just use the ROM to lock the phone...

Yes the rom purely locks the phone as far as I can tell on mine, nothing else seems different.

You can arrange apps in groups in standard Android. Drag them on top of each other and it will create a folder for you.

Yeah, pretty sure not on the Moto G. I can create folders with Apex though, just not with the standard launcher in the app drawer

This is only on home screens I think, not the app drawer.

If you order an 8Gb off Amazon.co.uk the estimated delivery time is Thursday, December 12, 2013 - Friday, December 20, 2013.

That's as close as you are going to get to being guaranteed one for Christmas.

It isn't due to come into stock until Dec. 6th.

If you can afford to do so the best bet is to place an order with Amazon and then keep trying to order one from Tesco. If you get one from Tesco cancel your Amazon order. (Amazon won't charge you until it is dispatched but they may have an authorisation on your credit card before that.)

Was up in Newry today and the phones4u shop had them in stock. Might be an option for those willing to drive up. Dunno how much but I'm sure you can ring ahead.

I wonder how much buying it using FlubIt will affect that date?

Yeah you have to use parcel motel address. It doesn't allow you use numbers in the name field so your PMID will need to be written like this. PM OneTwoThreeFourFive. Choose nightline logistics in the address dropdown menu after entering the PM postcode. Not sure about the clubcard points, you can try and login in with your irish clubcard details and see if that works. Phone comes locked to tesco uk so needs to be unlocked. Codes can be got for less than €2.50 and it needs a micro sim.

Guys, can anyone help with the Parcel Motel Address I need to enter on the Tesco Direct site:

I have entered the Post Code, BT36 4PX....

but the list of addresses available does not include the Nightline Logistics, or indeed this....

    Parcel Motel
    1A McKinney Road
    Mallusk
    Newtownabbey
    Co Antrim

What address should I choose, can't copy and paste those showing, but the first one is

Allister Moore Ltd, Unit 3 Newtownabbey

    last one is

Unit 21 McKinney Industrial Estate, etc

There are a couple of Logistics address's showing in the drop-down list also...

    TDG Logistics 52 Mallusk Road

    DHL Excel McKinney Ind. Estate

    Anyone know??

Or are Tesco copping on to PM, and excluding delivery to them??

I have done a capture of the relevant section below:

Thanks very much indeed, that was the original Post Code I got last year, perhaps even before that, I can't recall getting an update about about it.....

However, I actually got to purchase the 16GB moto G.....at least it's showing up in my Tesco Direct account, and I got an e-mail from them acknowledging my purchase, so, good to go. I think.....

    Delivery by Dec. 7th.....

lookin forward to messin with this now...rooting, SIM unlocking, bootloader unlock, etc, etc

    Thanks again!!

    Guys,

I've gotten as far as paying for the Moto G with Tesco Direct using my Parcel Motel account and post code etc for delivery but when it comes to entering my card details it insists on having a UK billing address for the card which I obviously don't have. How have you guys gotten around that? I don't see any option for using PayPal

Just use the Parcel Motel billing address. It should not be cancelled as Tesco don't check but if you want you can ring the bank and add the address as a billing or shipping address on the card.

Thanks Bren, that seemed to do the trick all right.

Can't believe this phone will be delivered by next weekend for the equivalent of €153. Unbelievable!! I was toying with the idea of getting a Chinese phone but this is the best of both worlds, a bang up to date phone from a quality manufacturer. If this works commercially for Motorola/Google Vodafone and the other network operators better get ready to become airtime providers and nothing else.

Here's the order confirmation for those interested in getting one.

I'm actually selling my Galaxy S3 now, with a few extras, cos I will be getting a Nexus 7 for Crimbo from herself, so the S3 is really surplus to requirements....

Just Tesco UK, you have to unlock the phone to use it on any different network (which includes Tesco Ireland). There is a few links in the thread and it costs about 2 GBP.
