Not sure, don't think there were any major frequency increases in april? Apart from the 1 SNN-FRA flight

It was probably, at least partially, explained by the fall of the Easter holidays in 2017. In 2017 the kids were off school to the 2 weeks that was wholly contained in April, whereas in 2016, it was the last 10 days of march along with only 3/4 days in April.

Maybe not 10,000 extra, but surely would have some impact on the numbers?

Aviation Statistics (Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport)

Thanks Shn99 for highlighting the DTTAS statistic source. :)

I would like to see the Transit passenger numbers when they come out. Probably compensated drops elsewhere.

Those two months shuttling coke concentrate to the U.S. was probably responsible for the overall hike of +38.67% in cargo?

Do they not realize they've lost a daily service to Chicago and a sizeable downgrade on the Delta route.

The FR press launch indicates the recent new routes will not be operating over winter. Even at the press conference the map also showed 11 routes and not the new ones.

Hello peoples. Was wondering if someone could shed some light for me. I'm attending an interview in the Park Inn this week and was wondering what the story was with parking. Is there separate parking for the hotel or is it the same as short term parking for the rest of the airport? Any info would be appreciated, thank you.

The Park Inn has its own car park, just after Hotel Management college

Largest drone flown in Ireland in Clare demo (Clare Herald)

The largest drone ever flown in Ireland has carried out its first European test flight in Co Clare.

The company that designed the CGT45 SLT unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) wants to establish Clare as a European test centre for its drones.

A-techSYN, which designs and builds unmanned aerial systems (UAS), launched its UAV business in the Shannon Free Zone near Shannon Airport in 2017. The company forms part of the Shannon Avionics Cluster.

Yesterdays demonstration was held at Spanish Point airfield in front of Clare Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection Mr Pat Breen; representatives from the Turkish Embassy in Dublin; Shannon Group as well as members of the Irish Coast Guard, Civil Defence and other interested groups.

They would want to stay well clear of Doonbeg ;)

Probably a long shot but does anyone know if there is any hiring going on in the airport at the moment? e.g APOs or the like?
Anything in the security side of things?

Aer Rianta International ends Shannon link (Independent)

Shannon Airport's long association with Aer Rianta International (ARI) has come to an end.

The €1bn-a-year duty-free operator was created out of Shannon Airport and was 'the jewel in the crown' at the airport for many years, but remained with the DAA as part of Shannon Airport securing its independence from the airport operator in 2013.

Post-Shannon securing its independence, ARI kept a small staff at the airport, but the final 11 Shannon based workers at ARI have now been either redeployed, taken early retirements or a voluntary severance package.

"The global travel retail sector is constantly changing, but we will always be proud of our roots in Shannon, where we opened our first duty-free store in 1947," said ARI spokesman Paul O'Kane yesterday.

"From those pioneering beginnings, ARI now employs more than 3,000 people in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific - including 300 in Ireland where it operates retail outlets at Dublin and Cork airports.

"ARI has a managed turnover of more than $1bn in its 16 retail locations worldwide."

Explaining the decision to shut down its Shannon operation, Mr O'Kane said "The business in Shannon had reduced significantly since 2013, after ARI exited its Russian and Ukrainian business.

"ARI staff in Shannon had provided buying and support functions for business in Russia and the Ukraine. Activity declined further after the Shannon Airport Authority decided not to award its airport retail contract to ARI shortly after SAA separated from DAA group." In 2016, ARI recorded pre-tax profits of €18.2m as revenues dipped by 14pc to €28.2m.
