Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lucky indeed.. I quite fancy some of quartz models

Never tried one on but would love to.

That GS GMT is a fine looking thing, heftiness aside. I tried on a Snowflake before in Weir's and was very impressed, perfect size, lovely finish and that dial...

I've lived in Dublin all my life but never been inside the door of Weirs.

Edit: but I have been up Nelson's Pillar.

New to me, Seiko King turtle STO, ticks a lot of boxes, ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, crown at 4 and drilled lugs.

Love the blue lume, but at first the end of the strap was too long and was catching the steering wheel. Then I realized the stainless keeper can slide along the strap, so all good. First time having a cyclops magnifier for the day and date, but I'm getting old.

Will set the day and date tomorrow:D

Picked up a Nomos Ahoi from 893Bet two or three weeks ago. I've always had a Nomos on the wanted list and this was a perfect opportunity to add to the collection.

Never liked Nato straps so I changed it for an original Nomos leather although going against the diving / swimming theme of the Ahoi. None of my watches ever see more action than the side of the bath anyway.

A quick polish and new Nomos clasp and here it is.

    Stunning watch. Real class.

You can still swim / dive with a leather strap, but expect to have to replace it every 1-2 years. Not the end of the world imho. I ruined a good Hirsch strap that way :p

:eek::eek: - there are rubberised leather straps (and ones with coatings too) - but really not recommended to swim or dive with one.

https://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-mariner-water-resistant-leather-watch-strap-in-gold-brown - would be an example.

Going swimming/diving? I recommend a nice natural rubber strap (not silicone).

Just wondering what website you ordered from? Im looking to purchase and getting a lot sponsored sites coming up on FB (obviously as I'm looking) but have no idea if they're decent quality or pure scrap. Trendhim seems to be one thats showing often.

Paid €1550 or so, the strap and the clasp from Nomos ran another €160.

Tried a few different straps on but it actually goes well with most colours.

All for €75 delivered (5 weeks)

    SNIP.

Hi, sorry to bother you. What website did you purchase this from? I'am a bit dodgy about some of the websites that keep popping up on my phone.

I promise I'll get my embedding game going.

Lockdown purchase, took about a month and a half. Quirky little number. Paid €3 extra for non-crappy strap and sure they also threw in a black one. Very comfortable altogether.

I've had a 100% success rate with Meranom.com. I had to return one watch which they fixed no problem. The only downside is the amount of time it takes to ship.

I've bought 15+ watches from them.

Yes first one , have had a few near misses on the Chrono down the last two years but was in the right place at the right time for this one .

It’s class , wears very very nicely , perfect thickness and size super comfy.

Was serviced sept 19 at a cost of 960 quid !!!

This variant of the model doesn’t normally come on the bracelet but the chap had it sourced , works well on it but the gator looks good as well!

Jesus just changed the bracelet to the alligator strap

It’s not for the faint hearted very tiny screws everywhere

Won’t be doing that too often !

    :)

Hard to believe its already been 4 months since leaving it into Crystal Jewelers back in March.Would of had it back sooner only for waiting on places to reopen for parts and with shipping.

Huge Thanks to Crystal Jewelers in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre,Lorraine and Barry the watchmaker was fantastic, took the time to talk me through what he had done.

He was able to restore one of the screws for the movement, had to make another from scratch.(Was in a rush, have messaged him for more information, just wanted to get this post up,will add more details later.)

In relation to the movement,he was saying one place makes the movements, another provides the cases.Mentioned what Wibbs had said before about the chemicals used in cleaning the movement might of changed the color appearing as a franken.

It is definitely made from at least 2 different movements,he explained back in the day they used benzene to clean the movements which is extremely toxic. He did not find any markings or anything to help identify the manufacture.

€75 for the service,€194.01 for the watch, really happy with that as its an amazing looking piece with that big crown and the history behind it that i am looking forward to explore more.

Was able to make out the name on the dial,SILVO. Found another on eBay [Link] . Going by the description, various different names could be found on the dials as the parts were from different manufactures.

Again another Huge thank you to Wibbs, way out of my depth on this one so very grateful to have his knowledge and inspirational posts to fall back on,and everyone else for posting as not having a large collection, its a great way to see many watches, many of which i could only dream of owning and the stories that go with them.

    Was it a miracle?

Anyway took a side by side shot and I have to say Damasko really nailed dial clarity and ease of reading the time at a glance. I find myself looking at the Seiko twice to check the time, I never had to do that with the Damasko.

The Seiko has blue for SAT and red for SUN, just to remind me to take an odd day off. The wart does make the day/date easier to read, but unless it's photographed dead on perpendicular it's a balls.

Lume on the Seiko is better, and with a gap at 3 and a good lume pip on the bezel makes it easier to figure out the time at 4 o'clock in the morning. The red pip on the Damasko doesn't really glow at all.

That's a lovely looking watch. It makes me watnt to find a more robust old watch than the sterling silver cased one I've got.

Actually I should clarify, it's s the bonklip bracelet wearing the lugs that makes me want a more robust one. Don't want to remove the bracelet either as I'm almost sure I'll break the lugs

I went with a blue red bond nato on my 1963 that I thought matched the blued hands and red star - something like this:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=bond+nato+blue+red&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwj_l7GjuLTqAhV5RBUIHW0mDQsQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=bond+nato+blue+red&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzoECAAQQzoCCAA6BggAEAUQHjoECAAQHjoGCAAQCBAeUPcIWKIUYMUVaABwAHgAgAEziAH7ApIBATmYAQCgAQGqAQtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZw&sclient=img&ei=-uYAX_8y-YjV8A_tzLRY&bih=1327&biw=2560&client=firefox-b-d

Though actually I see ultimately I put it on a two piece brown leather strap too. Seems like I'm not a huge fan of natos for comfort.
