While HWVS were always a tad poor with customer service (and the bank transfer thing was a little weird, never once did I see an option for paypal) - I'd still put them on par or ahead of the customer service from almost all Irish retailers and miles ahead of the old OCUK.

Shame to see them go this way.

Has anyone heard back from paypal yet?

No not yet but I think they give the company 10 days to reply. That leaves another week or so.

OCUK have changed. At the moment they are one of the best online retailer. I know they might be bit more expensive than other shops, but when you get to deal with rma , they will sort you out in a couple days.

the bank transfer lark is perfectly normal in Germany as the majority of people dont have credit cards.
Actually, if it isnt a transfer, they'd do a direct debit from their side, and even Aer Lingus offers this for german customers.

The credit cards you do get in Germany are debited in full off the account at the end of the month anyhow, meaning the "credit" aspect to get yourself into debt with massive interest rates that makes them so popular to 100s of millions of people in the Anglophone world - doesnt apply to Germany.
Also, the visa debit thing that IRL/UK now have is very rare in Germany as they have a perfectly good national debit card (so essentially like Irelands laser card, but used by 90million people!) and it doubles as a maestro card that works all across the europe perfectly ok and with no need for a credit card as a backup.

Im actually surprised so many are getting supplied with their stuff from Hardwareversand as often with recieverships the first to get shafted are the customers with stuff paid for or holding gift cards .

(ok, sorry for going on, but just had to explain that what sounds dodgy is actually just normal in germany)

That's true, but what is a little dodgy is that as far as I known customers WERE given options other than bank transfer previously; but magically, some weeks before the company going into administration, these options cease to exist thus forcing customers to pay via bank draft.

That seems highly suspect to me.

Bank transfer is pretty much a constant, especially in Germany; its always available to a German company in some form. Other forms of payment, however, rely on agreements between the company and the facilitator or institution responsible for it; these agreements are usually terminated once the funds run out, so payment options to a distressed company frequently start to dwindle in an alarming fashion a week or two before the parent group go into administration.

I know yeah, that's why I made the point of stating "old OCUK" :P

Ugh. I really don't want to try building a PC in my current living circumstances. I've been holding off on buying a configured pre-assembled PC from them for a while. I don't know a single person who knows anything about building desktop PCs.

OCUK do a building service: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=43&catid=2473

However it is super simple to do it yourself also. After a youtube video or two you will be flying it.

Oh, I think PC Specialist is the much better option, they charge in €s.

    HWVS would have been best.

I've watched a few building videos. I'd still prefer it prebuilt. :/

Had the same rubbish to deal with as everyone else. Rang Germany multiple times to see what was going on. They delievered 2 seperate packages, but they didn't contain everything, suddenly it says on the site that all the goods were delivered. So I'm on the phone to UPC Ireland and UPC Germany and the HWVS itself trying to figure out what's going on. Eventually they tell me they don't have the 3 items I was missing in stock, even though when I ordered everything it said each item would be available in 2 working days. Then eventually after more calls to see what's going on I see this thread, can't believe it.

Why the hell are you ringing upc?? Do you mean ups?

If you're really not wanting to build yourself you could always ask local computer stores do they build systems for a fee. Could possibly turn out cheaper still ordering the parts yourself and then just wheeling them into the shop... assuming they're reliable. But there's really nothing to it if you just spent a little bit of time researching (lots of resources out there). It will help in the future if you upgrade, change parts or want a new system.

But I can understand not wanting to go near building. I was like that at first... know how it feels. Just glad I went and built it meself in the end :)

I suppose some computer store in Limerick might. Nobody advertises it.

Honestly, it's as much an issue with space and the fuss it might cause where I live as anxiety about building. I'd upgrade eventually.

Yeah they wouldn't advertise it because that would encourage their consumers to ask about and buy the parts separately online and bring them in rather than buying their pre-builts/laptops they probably have on display which is probably their main source of income from the markup price. But most will probably say yes to constructing your build if they have anyone competent on staff. Just ask the price. Hell, half the tech guys would probably just say yes and pocket the money if it's not an official service.

I personally wouldn't pay over €50 for a build fee when there's not even water cooling solutions or anything.

But fair enough man everyone has their reasons for building or not. I built mine on the kitchen dining table. Took a while for my first build. Went quicker when I helped me sis build hers (we got scared when we forgot the CPU fan connector :pac:). Connecting all the power supply wires is the biggest pain in the hole, honestly. Everything else is straight forward.

Incidentally, what do you think of the Trion 960 here for €930 + delivery:

    http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/reviews/

The GPU is only a 960 and the PSU isn't great, but otherwise it has everything I could reasonably want.

You can build one yourself for €200 less, so your call on whether it's worth it. Nothing wrong with that PSU

    That €930 is Ex VAT

It works out at €1,107 + €28 delivery to ROI

    Total €1,135

No, it's €957.00 inc. VAT and Delivery to Ireland if you buy it from the reviews page and don't change the specs. The popup when you click configure tells you that. :P

Click Order Now and you'll see.

Re: The PSU: This review http://www.hardwareinsights.com/wp/corsair-vs450-review/ says it may not have long term reliability.

Hey folks. Just thought I would give an update with those who paid through Paypal.

Just got a email off them today to say that the claim has been resolved in my favour and that all of the money owed to me has been returned to my account. Happy out! :):)

I can start planning that PC build again!:)

The amazons are always safe. You will probably get a better price on the EU ones such as amazon.de instead of .co.uk due to the exchange rate.

Use Curiua.com to find the cheapest Amazon to use, and geizhals works for the other German sites to save a few euro.

Interesting, I got an email saying they'd be reviewing my case and I'd know by the 17th and I put in my claim pretty much the same day I got my email from HV. They'll be reviewing my case and I'll know by the 17th of August. Your case does set a good precedent for me though.

Did you escalate your case right away or did you wait for paypal to do it? If you waited then it makes sense.
