    I spotted this today:

    Picture026.jpg

    And bought it.

    It's a '65, I'm the third owner, 2nd owner had it since '68.

    This is my other Beetle:

    Picture029.jpg

    A '72 example.

A few spots from Dublin today:

Pre '87 Wicklow registered Range Rover spotted near Dublin Airport.

Tipperary North registered Minor spotted on Griffith Avenue.

    MorrisMinorFFI997.jpg

1978 VW Minibus spotted on Merchants Road.

Hmm, my friend's father has a Range Rover very similar to that. It's a '92 body on a '73 (I think) chassis. I'll have to check it out.

After 9999 NI came the ANI *** series. If BNI was 1979 then it was probably mid 1970s.

6690NI was issued by wicklow c.c. sometime between 75 and 79, so i would hazard a guess at around 1977/78....

That is pretty extreme, there wont be an original range rover left in the country!!:D

Came across these today, 1973 Capri and a 1968 Camero, the owner died recently and the cars are for sale, 10k euros for the Capri and around 50k for the Camero, sadly I feel these cars are going to rot there because the family think they're sitting on a goldmine.:(

Now I know it's no classic but I thought this Renault spotted in Valencia last month was in particularly good nick

that capri seems to be a 3000GXL and if its in good nick is possibly worth the 10k

Great pic of the 14 there Jrar!
Tinworm killed the Irish models but they were fun to drive. Great on the corners, handbrake was very effective. Loved the hum from the Peugeot engine.

Downside was the idler gear rattle at low rev.
Ohh! almost forgot - engine out for a headgasket.

Anyone know if an Irish one has surfaced??

Good god, a car that i had completly forgotten about!!I have a what car magazine somwhere with an ad for 14s and they are giving away a colour tv with each car sold!!I would be very surprised if there was one around, but you never know...i have a 70s cherry after all!!:D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,416 ✭✭✭tc20

re the R14 - its a loooooong time since i saw one, guy in the village used to have one when i was growing up.
Another R14 tale for ya - my dad worked for Aer Lingus, and in a annual draw one year, a brand new R14 was the 1st prize (im thinking late 70s/possibly very early 80s). Dad got 3rd prize - which was a 3-in-1 stereo :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 114 ✭✭Renotec

I think your dad got the better deal on the stereo. But.. as I'm a Renault fan I 'd have to side with the 14.
Popular colours in Ireland were: Yellow, Bronze, Green & Blue. Great roadholding and could carry 5 no problem..

Surely there is one left somewhere?

PS: This is mad... no seatbelts: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jPYFdZ4BvWg

It was a different world being a child in the 70s. I spent many a happy hour hanging out the windows/sunroofs of moving cars.:)

Yes it's in Cobh, the Capri is a 2 litre automatic converted to 3 litre so not really the real thing so I don't think it's worth 10k, it is in very good condition though.

    Ballybrit Galway this morning.
Not a classic as such, but they're rare on the roads ATM

    DSC00055a.JPG

It's badged as a Sierra RS but a quick check on the uk equivalent of Cartell says it's a Sierra Sapphire LX :)
Plus the guy drivin it looked younger than the car.....and as I passed it I couldn't help but notice the complete lack of a front bumper :)
Nice wheels tho, bit of Cillit Bang and they'd be sweet
