Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Must be a new policy, I haven't been in since the refit but practically every other time I've been there have been huge queues because only 1 or 2 tills are open. Pretty much rules out the prospect of popping in for one item, although I suppose that isn't their market.

Oh, I had this to say about The Fisherman on first visit:

Agreed with this, had an incredible meal there the other day, but the service was very meh, the waiting staff were very inattentive, we had asked for a desert menu but was then promptly forgotten about, couldn't seem to get their attention at all and eventually had to go up to the little bar to get them to take our order.

The food? absolutely fantastic! Would gladly go back again, but the waiting staff need a good kick up the bum so to speak, very inattentive.

Now, I would like to report, the staff seemed to have definitely improved hugely, they were very attentive and quick with seating us, our orders and everything. I'd say the place has gone from 4/5 to 5/5! ;)

liked the fisherman very much at weeked, fish was very fresh, but chips were greasy, and the dessert menu needs more choice.

The starter menu, however, is great

The crepe/ice cream place at the corner of the market has opened yet again under a different name. Can't remember what it's called but it's As Gailge.
It got off to a bad start yesterday as they couldn't turn off the alarm for ages.

Ya, looks like it's called "cup of coffee" in Irish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,761 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Think it's a bit pidgin Irish tho, or maybe it's just the font.
The whole sign/colour scheme wouldn't really attract me if I was a stranger to town.
Best of luck to them though. I'll probably have a proper look at them during the week when I'm off.

    Looking properly now:

    An Pota Caifé.

Currently they have young teenage girls handing out free sandwiches. Definitely new people running it, I'd guess a family business.

Blacoe Jewellers on Mainguard Street has closed down. There's a sign on their window announcing the closure.

is it just me or have they messed with the car park in aldi westside since the refurbishment? the spaces seem a LOT tighter than before (and i dont drive a tank and am fairly able to park my car properly but i was struggling to find a space where i could actually open the door wide enough as to get the maxi cosi out, even when the other cars were parked within the lines.)

never had this before, but saw a good few people attempting to enter spaces and then realising they were too tight

its also busier for some reason, meaning that trying to get out of the car park is a royal pain due to that stupidly designed and permitted right hand turn

anyhoo. hope they open a store in Knockers soon :P

I don't know anything about this particular situation, but I don't think it's uncommon for people who are closing down to say they are renovating.

Having to close a business is difficult and fairly public, so some try to soften the blow...

I was in a shop in the county on its last day of trading. The owner had taken over the shop in the last few years of the tiger era and the bank eventually pulled the plug on the loan. The poor owner was in bits.

There's a new fish restaurant open on Henry St, next to Mermaid Fishmongers. It's run by the same family and I had a very pleasant meal in there on the weekend.

The menu's simple; Chowdah, Calamari, Seafood platters etc but it's all done very well. The chips in particular were excellent with my monkfish.

Hynes arent reopening they are gone out of business. There is another shop going in there.

The shoeshop that was previously Hynes in Abbeygate St re-opened a few weeks ago.

It still says "Hynes" on the window, and the price tags on the shoes inside say "Hynes". It's all new season stock, and I think that the prices and range carried are roughtly the same was they were previously.

The staff who I've seen inside are new.

I've spotted the lad who used to manage that outlet outside once - not sure if he's actually working there again, or if it was just co-incidence that he was in the neighbourhood.

It may say hynes shoes on the door but the company that traded as hynes shoes is in liquidation. Its a different family that are operating the shop there.
