Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You know you've got a detailing problem when you clean places nobody will ever see, and you dont even see them too often yourself! :)
    Good work! ;)

Can do, if they need it. A shoe polishing brush is brilliant.

What do ye use for cleaning wheel arches. Mine are starting to turn a browny colour from dirt, as opposed to the grey/black that it should be. Just APC and a scrub is it? They're plastic btw. It's quite difficult to get into them. I meant to give them a right going over as I was changing the wheels (when the wheels were off) but it slipped my mind. The excitement of getting them on and all :pac:

    Wheels off.
    Blast off heavy dirt
APC mix > Dwell > Scrub
    Pressure wash again
    DeTar
APC > Scrub > Pressure wash,
    Inspect,
    if happy
    Squirt of CG Barebones .

Detailing wheel arches is the ultimate sign of detailing OCD, a bit like cleaning the underside of your shoe. ;)

    Class work as usual.

What do you use there to restore all the black plastic trims. Or what product would you recommend to use that that give a lasting shiny look. Thanks :)

I use Soloution Finish and I just love it, easy to use is one thing but when something is fun to use it seals the deal for me.

Got a call from a friend to come and detail his Bentley Continental GT, last time we agreed that there was not enough time to detail the engine compartment and it would have to wait so yesterday that wait was over!

    To do list:
    • Detail engine compartment.
    • Wax exterior paint.

I didn't get a lot of photos as it was almost twenty degrees out  meaning i had to work in a timely manner.

    Before detailing

    05-DSCF1296_zpsqk30vlqa.jpg

    06-DSCF1297_zpslwo4g8i4.jpg

    Very greasy and grimey.

    Precess:
    1. Spray Meguiar's D108 everywhere inside engine compartment washing off over spray on surrounding/outside areas.
    2. Dwell for a minute.
    3. Agitate with Valet Pro 1" brush and Alaska F1 Premium Active Brush.
    4. Power rinse with half pressure.
    5. Spray White spirits on hinges and latches
    6. Dwell for fives minutes
    7. Steam clean to remove remaining grease.
    8. Blow dry engine with compressed air.
    9. Start engine to totally dry engine compartment.
    10. Wash and Dry exterior with Optimum No Rinse.
    11. Polish And Wax underneath of the bonnet with Optimum GPS.
    12. Seal engine plastics with Aerospace 303 protectant.
    13. Wax exterior paint with Swissvax Best Of Show.
    14. Hoover and dust off interior.
    15. Clean floor mats with Autosmart G101.
    16. Shine up interior plastic trim with Autosmart Finish.
    17. Clean glass with Autosmart Glassglow.
    18. Drive home play Project Cars on PS4 :P

White Spirits is a bit aggressive, no? Something like Bilt Hamber Surfex HD would be a much safer option, being water based.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭JAMES VTI S

Perfectly safe and safe on the pocket ;)
    I get it in B&Q.

No doubt it works, and is a cheap option, but when dealing with the rubber seals, etc, in an engine bay, I personally wouldn't use a solvent. Id rather have to do a bit of extra work, doing an area twice if needs be, with a product I know would be safe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭JAMES VTI S

Just used it in the hinges :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

    Not too bad then.
But even at that, it could drip down onto something below, that may not be obvious. Ahhh, maybe Im being a bit too safe, but as my parents used to say (and still do), better safe then sorry! :) Especially with a mates Bentley! ;)

Tackled the leather seats in the RS4 yesterday.
Hoovered and wiped all the seams clean
Gave them a misting of Meguiars APC 10/1 Cut.
Followed by a going over with lild's finest hand held steam cleaner.

Didn't notice a huge difference tbh as they are black, but the towel was manky when finished so it worked.

Only took one pic as I just forgot!
This was before the steam clean.

    IMG_20150517_130149_zpsdbhn5yuz.jpg

Handy enough process tbh and then I did the gf's seats, cream leather in her BMW, they cleaned up quite well so she was happy :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Gwan outta that...just showing off that you have the RS4!! :D :P
Always good to clean the leather regularly, even if it doesnt look dirty; often over looked with a dark interior! Knowing its clean is as good, even if you dont see dramatic results! ;)

It's not many that would spend time on the likes of this fella, but I did this weekend.

First time in over 6 years anything other than a wash was done to the paintwork. Surprisingly there wasn't a major amount of tar (started getting lazy near the end and may have missed a few spots  )There was a few spots of rust and the water created a rusty water line down on the paint, but I got them out. Nowhere near any standards here, or what I'd accept on my cars, but for what it is, it came out like a gem, if I say so myself.

    One of said water/rust runs.

    And the finished article

    KUiHvYX.jpg

Didn't bother with any tyre dressing, as there was no point!

    Tyre shine is a must

I might aswell pour it down the drain. It's driven through mucky yards/roads daily, if I put it on, it would be gone off within a few hours.

    I carried out a ‪‎protection‬ ‪‎detail‬ on this super tidy ‪‎Seat‬ ‪‎Leon‬ ‪FR‬ in ‪Cork‬ city yesterday.

    1-DSCF1326_zps3vzfa2hh.jpg

    4-DSCF1332_zpsaucmthkn.jpg

    2-DSCF1328_zpsqdgiluub.jpg

    3-DSCF1330_zps6lisbapx.jpg

    1. The paint got a soft hand wash with a lambs wool wash mitt and Autosmart duet duo.
    2. The wheels were deep cleaned inside and out with an EZ ‪‎detailing‬ brush, ‪‎valet‬ pro 1" brush and Autosmart smart wheels.
    3. Any tar spots were safely dissolved and wiped off with Dodo Juice ‪‎tar‬ & glue remover.
    4. I washed, cleaned and polished the exhaust tips.
    5. The paint was decontaminated with a Liquid Elements clay towel.
    6. Then rinsed and dried with a Deluxe plush microfiber drying towel.
    7. To protect and enhance the clean paint I applied Collinite No. 845 insulator wax.

The car had 4/5 layers of different waxes so i thought to try striping them off and start again. This is what I did,

Washed using APC, rinsed, washed again using APC, rinsed, Washed using CG shampoo, rinsed, washed using CG shampoo, rinsed, a cost of Fusso for durability and couple of hours later another coat of Authentic for shine.

Wheels - washed with APC, then BH sprayed and left on for 5 minutes, rinsed. front wheels were treated twice as there was so much brake dust on em, there are still traces of dust on the front wheels. Need to buy CG wheel guards for protection but for the time being I applied the Fusso on the wheels too.

Special thanks to Curran and Vecta for their valuable advise, please carry on advising :)

    Products used :)

Curran, or someone else, point me to the iron cleanse stuff? The stuff that makes the brake dust brown colour marring come off. Also what's the delivery process, just by post is it or what?

    De-iron or Fallout Removers

    Car Pro IronX
    Bilt Hamber Korrosol
    50Cal DeCon
    Wolfs Deironizer
    Orchard Autocare Iron Cleanse

Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel if you want something that isnt as concentrated, but used every 3rd or 4th time you wash the car, will keep on top of the contamination build up.
