Paul Cook linked with a move to take over the Stockport job, that Sligo bet mightn't be so tempting after all.

    McCabe gone too!

Knew that when posting the bet, was basically confirmed two weeks ago he was signing for Shams, Richie Ryan though signed a new contract with Sligo and Cook said he has no intentions of leaving.

On the Bray bet, Devlin has managed to sign up a good chunk of their 1st team squad.

Karl Sheppard top scorer next season ;)

any odds on top scorers yet?

im disgusted he went to Rovers but he will bang them in there, best player in the league imo.

    Awh Sheppard, Shels reject!:D

Only odds so far for the LoI is the Premier Division outright.

Ye Twigg and Sheppard up front will always be a nice combo for Shams, but they play sh*te football, very Dermot Keely"esque" like tactics from what I seen of Shams this season, hoof hoof hoof! Wouldn't say the best in the league, definitely top 10. He was always moving back to Dublin anyway, something to do with him getting a ban from driving afaik.

Didnt hear about the driving ban lol

He's the best ive watched in a while, i thought he'd be back to England tbh.

On top of my big Sligo bet and small ew Bray bet I should be doing a small double on most likely Shels/Shams double, going to hold out till full squads are announced.

Premier Division will be tight this season imo Shams, Sligo, Pats and Derry should all be up there or thereabouts come October.

Just a repost of my post back in Janaury.
Sligo Rovers to win the League @ 9/4 - 10pts
    Returns 32.5pts

    Bray Wanderers to win the League @ 150/1 - 1pt e/w
    Returns 182pts
Each Way pays out on top 3.

Sligo Rovers are a class act of a team, having seen them basically dismantle Shams in the FAI Cup I think they have a real chance of winning the League this season. They probably won't lose any of their decent players and they'll probably bring in a few decent players, missed them at 8/1 on WilliamHill that rapidly went down to 9/2 after an hour.

Bray Wanderers, mental bet imo. If I remember rightly, if you only included Brays results from when Delvin took over till the end of the season, Bray were top. Delvins still in charge this season and I'm not aware of many players leaving them, missed them at 500/1 but I think 150 is worth an ew punt.

First Division odds ain't out yet, but it will be a toss up between Shels, Waterford and Limerick.

    Bank 120pts

League up and running on Friday, have a few ideas of who I'll be backing, etc... just waiting to hear some team news. Plan to have my weekly bets up by Thursday night every week. Also plan to have my few more season long bets up by tomorrow (just waiting to see if Paddypower will give me a special price on a bet).

Hopefully this can start off where it finished last season but with a happier ending for myself (aka Shels wiping the floor with the League and being back where we belong).

Surely Shels have to be the bet of the opening weekend??really cant believe their price. Also gonna have a prety large interest in Pats at the prices. Galway gonna be really bad this year and excluding Drogs i dont see either of them picking up too many points this season. Big singles and doubles on them 2 on opening weekend for me

11/8 we were yesterday on PP, definitely worth a large sum for anyone out there. Still waiting on PP to see if they can offer me a price on a related event. Mervue could be worth a few bob too this weekend, brought in a few decent players imo, while Bray will be another team I'll be looking at, both Bohs keepers are most likely out so they'll have their A team youngster Craig Sexton in goals.

Ya was thinking bout Bray myself aswell. 5/4 i got on Powers earlier for Shels. Really like Pats tho. We played Galway in a friendly last week and it really should have been 6 or 7-1. They really gonna struggle this year especially in the early stages and i still think the 8/11 is good value and thats in from 5/6.

So my final selections on my season long bets (PP's special odds on what I wanted were sh*te). First Division to follow with match bets tonight.

    Premier Division

Sligo Rovers to win the League @ 9/4 - 10pts
    Returns 32.5pts (Paddypower)

    Bray Wanderers to win the League @ 150/1 - 1pt e/w

Each Way pays out on top 3.

    Jason Byrne (Dundalk) Top Goalscorer @ 11/1 - 2pts

    Returns 16.25pts (Paddypower)

    Finn Harps to win the League @ 20/1 - .5pt e/w
    Returns 13pts (Paddypower)
Each Way pays out on top 3.

    Stephen O'Flynn (Limerick) Top Goalscorer @ 10/1 - 1pt
    Returns 11pts (Boylesports)

    Conan Byrne (Shelbourne) Top Goalscorer @ 10/1 - 1pt

    Returns 12.5pts

Bray and Dundalk both to win @ 14/1 - 1pt

Did ya get the special price you were on about earlier in the thread??mind me asking what it was??also on the -1 bets on Pats,Shels and Cork its definitely getting some of my money!!

Thought I posted it must have forgot, it was Conan Byrne top goalscorer and Shels to win the League which they only gave me 12/1 on. Conan Byrne alone on Boyles is 10/1 and Shels are 9/4 on PP. Still tempted to ring up Boyles tomorrow and get a price mind you.

Ye the -1 treble is a crazy price, Cork and Shels should do the business fairly handily, Pats is dodgy as Galway are usually they're boggy team, in saying that Galway still have finalised a squad.

I really fancy Pats but ya Galway are a bit of a bogey team but i think they have had just so little time to prepare that they should be ok!!I dont fancy much in our game but John Russell at 18/1(with ladbrokes) to score first is a huge price as he will be playing in the advanced central role of our 5 man midfield and os a player who can score goals. Ya can also back e/w on first goals with them and he is definitely worth a bet.
Getting excited about tonights game now. Getting the dinner in at half 1 and then pints and a bus to derry at 4. Really good to have live football back!!

Sound Waterford, though they would have been the safest team in that bet tbh. Shels to play tomorrow but the other 3 won.
Bray and Dundalk both to win @ 14/1 - 1pt
    Returns 15pts

Started off very well, but well downhill rapidly.

    Shels -1, Cork City -1, St.Pats -1 @ 32/1 - 1pt
    Returns 33pts

Pats win 3-0, Cork only 1-0 and Shels to play tomorrow.
    Dave McMillan - First Goalscorer in Galway -v- Pats @ 5/1 - 1pt
    Returns 6pts

Scores the 2nd goal, 3 mins after the 1st is scored.

    Jason Byrne - First Goalscorer in Shams -v- Dundalk @ 8/1 - 1pt
    Returns 9pts

Thanking you Jayo, scores a Peno to put Dundalk in the lead only for them to lose 3-1.

After week one we're at 114pts.

    Returns 10pts

    Bohs -1, Dundalk -1, St.Pats -1 @ 9/1 - 1pt
    Returns 10pts

    Dinny Corcoran - First Goalscorer in Bohs -v- Drogs @ 12/1 - 0.5pts
    Returns 6.5pts

    Scorecast - Gary Twigg First Goalscorer and 1-1 score @ 22/1 - 0.5pts
    Returns 11.5pts

Derry about the only bet i fancy this weekend. The bookies are very tight on the fancied teams this weekend. For anyone who may have followed me in on the John Russell bet he hit the post at 0-0....sick!!!

UCDD won't be a push over, lad I went to school with got promoted to their first team this season said Martin Russell is doing a great job with very little quality. UCDD have always been dark horses in this League and can always cause an upset imo.

Ya he does do a great job but their squad this year is so poor. 2 lads that are ex-rovers who arent premier standard(marshall and meenan)started with them in key positions last week.Meenan actually played with ye for a while, was he released?? Anyway happy with the result, a good nights work!!

We've a terrible squad this season, just lucky that Drogheda are even worse. Didn't deserve a win in that game either.

Didn't get on here on Friday to through up bets, a combo of a vist to the doctors, Cheltenham, pub and Shels match hampered that.:D Could have a massive single match bet for Friday, just waiting to get confirmation on a couple of injuries.

Well the big single probably won't happen, basically as some of you might know Bohs played Hibs in a friendly on Monday, Fagan and Bisto went off injured. Seems Flood will be ok so it's kinda turned me off Galway at 11/2. I'll wait to see team news tomorrow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 27 Phonics

What do you think of your match this weekend??now i fully expect yous to win the league this year but do you think Mervue may be a tad overpriced this weekend at 15-2. They are better than a lot of people seem to give them credit for and have had a decent start to the season including a draw at home to Cork who youd expect to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and by a few accounts seemed to be unlucky in longford last week after taking the lead. Wouldnt be one for massive stakes but just seems to be a big price, what ya think??Fwiw i think we could go a bit mad this weekend and batter the Drogs at home, we are due to give a performance and might dutch a couple of the bigger scorelines to nil as i cant see them scoring against our defence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,965 ✭✭✭✭Gavin "shels"

Afaik we've a full strength squad and I'll be honest when I can see us thumping these. We seem to be starting to gel as a team, and seem to be gradually getting better week by week. I'd be saying Shels -1 or -2 tbh, Matthews will have gave them some bollocking after a shocking second half performance last week and can't see us repeating that crap this week.

On an unrelated betting note, I hope the weather stays as is, could get a lot of people out to matches and will make a long trip to stand in a field in Galway a lot more bearable for me tomorrow.:D

Bohs, Sligo, Cork, Shels, Limerick and Monaghan all to win @ 6.15/1 - 1pt
    Returns 7.15pts

    Derry -v- Shamrock Rovers
    Pats -v- Dundalk
    UCD -v- Bray
    All to be draws @ 33/1 - 1pt
    Returns 38pts

    Sligo -1, Shels -2, Monaghan -2 @ 17/1 - 1pt
    Returns 18pts

John Russell (First Goalscorer for Sligo Rovers) @ 5/1 - 1pt
    Returns 6pts

    Dave McMillan (First Goalscorer for St.Pats) @ 6/1 - 1pt
    Returns 7pts

    Bank 105pts

The handicap treble was done with Boyles as PaddyPower don't have Shels -2 on their site.

Still unclear if Anto Flood and Fagan will be out for Bohs, so I'm staying away from Galway and backing Bohs instead. If Bisto and Fagan happen to be out I'd get on them (personnally won't be as I'll be on a bus to Mervue).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,965 ✭✭✭✭Gavin "shels"

Didn't really expect Shels to struggle that much in Mervue, but they screwed the nice handicap bet as the other two came in.

And the other bets were woeful.

Hopefully someone got on Galway to beat Bohs in the end.

    Wexford -v- Mervue
    All to be draws @ 107/1 - 0.5pts

Yup heard they were, which makes it even worse. Then they go and slaughter Portadown which I got a "tip" off but was stuck in work.

You need photographic ID and a bill with your address.;)

Hopefully more luck with the handicaps this week lad, I'm going for this:
    Rovers -1
    Limerick -1
    Bohs
    Galway

    odds of about 21/1

Would have thought Bohs -1 was more solid than Rovers -1. Bray being somewhat Rovers bogey team, granted it's moreso when in the Carisle but still. Nice bet, you have with cracking odds.
