Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There are no collisions reported at those junctions according to the map on the rsa website
    http://rsa.ie/RSA/Road-Safety/Our-Research/Ireland-Road-Collisions/

The road is 100 because WCC never applied to increase the speed limit on the dual carriageway section.

But we've digressed now from the thread's point a lot.
Yip sorry, that option was available (to increase speed to 120) even though road was not motorway, but option isn't taken very often.
I'll hobble back to the n11 threads now :)

Wish they just finish already and pull back that bloody barrier etc. Crazy to think they couldn't have built this flyover with the M9 five years, which surely would have been far cheaper and less disruptive. Another example of zero foresight in the place but I suppose we are lucky the road itself was even built in hindsight.

Can someone let me know exactly where the M11 Gorey Motorway service area is being built? Is it on the part that bypasses Gorey or somewhere to the north?

Thanks but I've never driven through the area so I don't know what it looks like. Is it near the village of Inch?

Ballyellin, not too far from Inch

Current Google Streetview is from October 2014 and shows work in progress :)

Cones have been placed northbound and southbound on the M9 at the new services slips, also signs indicating hard shoulders are closed.

Hopefully this will be the start of the construction of the actual services.

STILL no official services for the Dublin - Cork corridor, just a random selection of crap/only-ok private operators.

What's wrong with Jct 14 services near Monasterevin?

There's a couple of new offline, non-official MSAs in the pipeline too.

We don't need gold-plated facilities - a place to piss, ****, eat and get some fuel does the job.

Some consistent signage of services (as long as they fulfil some minimum criteria) on the mainline would help a lot.

J14 isn't online (not giving out about that tho), and is almost 200km from Cork.

Trees are going to end up growing again on the Gorey site before they get around to getting it bloody open. How long is that fuel price sign up now? Must be nearly a year.

The Gorey site will be a Topaz station, they have yet to do a fit out on the site. The fit out could probably be done in about 6 weeks once they give the go ahead.

Where did you get your info about it being a topaz? Presumably the fast food will be supermacs then?

    http://www.independent.ie/regionals/wicklowpeople/news/m11-services-wont-open-until-end-of-year-31255634.html
Sources say that Topaz has been identified as the preferred company to take the tender for the premises, but it has until early July to agree to take on the project.
It could then be another six months before the service station is fitted out, approved, and ready to open, meaning it will be the end of 2015, or early 2016 before the first customers walk through the doors.

...and yet it is the best and most successful on the Dublin - Cork corridor.

Manor Stone near M8 J3 is too small (its full already on Sundays) and lets not even talk about Cashel.

Any information on the construction/land costs of the new MSS junction at M6. Athlone. Is it tapping into any local roads. Personally I'd have thought Moore between j13 and J14 Roscommon side would have been better seeing as there is a community, existing over bridge and new regional Garda Station there. And it has one of the longest distance between two junctions in the country.

They're not allowed have access from local roads, except for staff access.

Yes a new GS was opened a few years ago at Clonark about half way between Athlone and Ballinasloe on the old N6.

This could delay things at Athlone and two other MSSs earmarked.

They wouldn't be allowed access the motorway using the service area.

I saw the specs for tranche 1, at the time, and in fairness they are a minefeld of contradictory terms - will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Also interesting Superstop 2 is Tedcastle, and not Top...anyone know who D&B partner is (or are they not including a D&B partner this time after the Pierse experience?)

I Inquired in July about time frames for the start of the build and got this response today.
I wish to advise that the tender/contract award process for the appointment of a contractor/operator for this service area is being finalised, however there is not yet definitive timescales. The preferred tenderer is Topaz Energy Group Ltd.

    Hope it starts soon.

Isn't the T in Top not Tedcastles ( Oil products)?

My reference to GS access was made in the context of my original suggestion that this MSS should have been at Moore where local access is required. However it seems from another reply that an MSS is precluded from serving local roads so forget my suggestion. it's academic anyway.

Has anyone any idea of the cost of a typical MSS junction such as the recently completed one at Athlone. including land and construction costs excluding the MSS itself. Are these subject to cost benefit analysis and are these available. I thought all such investment is subject to cba.

That unofficial Midway place in Portlaoise would be ideal if it could get a major coffee brand on board.

Mostly all I want is a decent coffee and maybe a sandwich or a cake halfway between Cork & Dublin. I don't generally want a major feed and I doubt I'm exceptional.

Fuel would probably be handy for some too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,779 ✭✭✭Carawaystick

Ah Midway, the best marketing brand ever.

Rather a lot closer to halfway between Dublin and Limerick though. And it is on the road to Limerick.

It's not on any motorway, its beside the motorway, on what was the road to Cork from Portlaoise, before the Portlaoise bypass was built.
And Quadrature was talking about a journey from Cork to Dublin.

Was it named Midway when it was on the N8 (i.e. before the Portlaoise bypass was built)? Assuming it was built before the completion of the Portlaoise bypass...
