Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I have a weird quirk that we're trying to get rid of. When I release the hook grip I actually let go of the bar and move my hands in a few inches either side (old quirk that developed when I was injured and had a mobility issue)....which makes it impossible to stand up with anything heavy.

    I snatch without a hook grip once a week to see if I can engrain the pattern of not letting go of the bar....only time will tell if it works :D:D

    Good article here which talks a bit about grip, says to keep a good grip as long as possible and only loosen it just before the bar is overhead, I suppose with no hook you need to grip harder for longer.

    Keeping a good grip as long as possible is easier said than done though :/ that's why the no hook grip snatches are good for me cos it means I dont release at all.

    Second weird quirk....if I concentrate too hard on not moving my hands then my feel dont move ether :/ Accidental no feet/no hands snatches...hasn't happened in a while though :)

    Any plans to compete soon?

    We're having a in house comp in June so I'm training for that now, I'm tempted to sign up for the Leinster open after it.

    You should definitely sign up for leinsters!!! Tis all about getting experience.

    Also,...just a heads up for ya. A new weightlifting club is setting up on the Northside in a couple of weeks, in case you're interested ;)

    I HATE tapering. Drives me mental not being able to train properly!!

    BOOM....National Champ....by default:(

    Saturday 7th of June- National Champs Belfast

    There was supposed to be 3 of us in my weightclass (which was poor showing in itself)..but as it turned out I ended up being the only competitor in the 58kg class :(

    Day started off a bit crazy, arrived in Belfast at 9.30 for the 9.30 weigh in and ended up getting lost for 45mins.

    Weighed in at 56.5kg but I was actually surprised at this as I thought I was leaner at this comp that I had been at the last few

    First time competing without crazy nerves :) Was just really excited, I knew training had gone really well lately and that I was due some niceness on the platfrom

    Snatches

    42kg, 44kgx, 44kgx
    The 42kg was a beaut, prob the nicest snatch I've done. Was confident going into the 44kg, but on the first one I concentrated too much on keeping my shoulders over the bar and I ended up a bit forward on my toes and then the next attempt I reverted to my old habit and swung the **** outta it. Wasn't annoyed at the snatches, I knew I should have done more but it just didnt happen.

    Clean and Jerks

    52kg, 55kg, 58kgPB

    Was uber confident with the clean and jerks. They all felt ridiculously light. I did however power the 58 as I really wanted to get it and I wasnt sure what my full clean would look like. Happy with the PB and there is a good few kilo left in the clean and jerk
    Finished with a 100kg total which is a PB total by 2kg. Good day...but plenty to work on :)
