Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A quick google of aaroadwatch tweets indicates closures/diversions on the bypass in Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan.
5km tailbacks mentioned in one case and I guess this morning was no different due to no traffic control or change to light sequence.

Hi Lads anyone know where i would get outerwear Ski pants type keep me warm & dry.Not the cheap type rain gear that tears the min you put the pants on. I know Aldi have ski pants before but its wrong season now so they hardly have them again. Something average price.20 to 40 euro price range
most of the shops i can think off have closed down

Best place in town to get a decent sleeping bag, anyone?

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

I think I've only ever bought them in Argos, they'd be for kipping on someone's floor and are fine.
I'd say if you needed one for proper camping, the only two places I can think of are the army surplus store, Lower Cecil Street (I think that's the street anyway, down near the river off Henry Street), or the outdoor shop on Patrick Street beside Tony Connolly's men's store.

Ended up getting a nice one in the U.S. Surplus Store. I hadn't the time to get further up town but the price and quality seemed grand (after comparing with similar products on the Argos website.) I only needed it for a night in my friend's house but it'll be perfect for camping, etc, later in the year.

This is random - but is there anywhere in Limerick that does chocolate covered nuts, dried fruit - trail mix style pick 'n' mix ? not regular sweets. If that makes sense. I know some of the pick 'n' mix counters often have chocolate covered peanuts but im looking for a place that most of the options are "healthier" options like nuts/dried fruit.

Yes, i know they are not totally healthy!

Was the door beside the entrance to Small Claws when I did it many years ago

At the end of Shannon street, down from Fitzgerald Electrical and Small Claws pub. You go in the door on the left and upstairs I think

    Sigh....
    http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/business/business-news/limerick-playground-hit-by-legal-claims-after-climbing-accidents-1-6603542

Several personal injuries claims already against the childrens playground in the Crescent. Was the installation was somehow connected to mains voltage or rife with razor sharp edges through poor design? Or do some parents need a running funt up the hole?

If you watched Junk Food Kids - you'll see the type of parent that is out there nowadays!

Unless the playground actually fell apart causing injury any judge in their right mind will tell the parents to take a hike.

Not sure what to think about that drunk driver good Samaritan lady on the Childers road, can't condone drunk driving and not sure what else he could have done but it seems a bit jobsworthy from the guard.

So an on duty Garda arresting a woman who was 5 times over the legal limit is being jobsworthy?

It's attitudes like that, that make people think it's okay to drive like that. With that level of alcohol in her system, she shouldn't have been in charge of a buggy let alone a car.

If he hadnt arrested her, there'd be people complaining that he should have had!

Agreed, and I would be one of them. There's a social responsibility to condenm drink drivers, until it becomes socially unacceptable there'll be more and more alcohol related deaths on our roads.

Attitudes like the one in the post I originally quoted only make those that do drive after alcohol believe that society is behind them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,747 ✭✭✭Swiper the fox

I haven't a leg to stand on in this debate and will make no effort to defend myself from the backlash on my original comment, I have zero sympathy for drink drivers and thankfully as a nation we seem to be moving away from it in general.
My comment was meant to be lighthearted in a way, when I read the story I couldn't help but feel a bit of sympathy for the woman, we also bitch about the fact that nobody helps out someone in trouble anymore.
Anyway, apologies if I have offended the sensibilities of the Limerick boards crew.

Fair enough, you could have put in an emoticon so that we all did jump on our high horses! Maybe she was pissed, stopping to help what appeared to be an able bodied off duty police officer.

Good Limerick folk, anywhere for puncture repairs on Sundays? Tried a few places previously mentioned (ballysimon Rd and near the A 1 bar) but no luck.
Reduced to a half inflated wheel of shame for now!

If i walk onto the walks by the canal near the Absolute Hotel - do they lead to U.L?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,859 ✭✭✭Poxyshamrock

They do indeed. When you get to the end of the canal, there is a bridge, you want to head right at the river which will bring you to UL.

Thanks! Im from Limerick but have never walked the entire length of these banks - just a section by U.L. Is this the starting point for them in the city?

I tried to look them up online but couldnt find a concrete answer! It looks like a really nice walk.

Best way is to head in gates by Emo Service Station on Clare Street and head out that way.

What is the problem with Parnell Street? It is a busy street, albeit run down a bit but it's never quiet.

I've lived here near two years and walk it everyday and its a constant string of socially undesirable types standing around, causing trouble, all day every day.

Why can't it be sorted out?

Exactly. Parnell street is right between the dole office and a certain area where unemployment is high. Add a bookies, an offie, a casino and a few pubs in and the result is Parnell street

Also i think in most cities areas around the main bus/train station are always a bit dodgy.

Folks, does anyone know if the recycling centre in Shanagolden takes old motor oil? If not can someone point me in the right direction? My last 2 jobs had oil disposal facilities so I never once had to look for a place to get rid of it.

Well this is embarrassing. There's a place not 5 mins from my front door in Newcastle West. Living here on and off for 8 years and never knew about it. €5 in and got rid of loads of junk.
