Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Aye it's a real pity that they haven't upgraded the battery from the G2. They had 2 years and they flunked it. I said it many times, the dogs on the street knew this, throw in the 2k screen and battery will be poor. The phone is brilliant but I couldn't justify spending a lot of money upgrading to a phone with worse battery. Throw in a 4000 MaH battery and this is phone of the year.

Mine arrived yesterday from the local swiss retailer. Ordered the brown leather but came with a silver back as well. Kinda excited about that for some reason. "Lagniappe" I guess.

After 24 hours with the device, the battery isn't as strong as I had hoped. Coming from a 2 year old Z1 with the same size battery, I was hoping for more improvements.

Screen is gorgeous, not as nice as an AMOLED but still pretty awesome, nary a pixel to be seen.

Small things annoy me, like I can't have a live wallpaper on my lockscreen, nor can I find the way to change the lock-screen unlock effect.

I think this might be more of an android thing, but I wish I could remove the NFC symbol in the status bar. I always have it on and I'd prefer to know if it was off! Same with bluetooth.

The volume/notification settings are a little odd. There's both volume and priority like in stock lollipop but it's implemented weirdly and I dont like it.

Double tap to wake is awesome.

Phone is very comfortable to hold compared to the Z1 which was a brick. Also it's only marginally bigger but has a 5.5" screen showing the size of the Z1 bezels. Notification light seems bright enough unlike the Z1.

Haven't played with the camera much yet. The Z1 was very very good (IMO, but no OIS) so I'll see about doing side by side comparisons.

Really that I can't change what double tapping the power keys does when the screen is off. I'll never use quicknote and I'd love to map it to something I actually use. If/when the device gets rooted I expect this will the first thing opened up. Double tap to open camera and take photo is kinda cool but not sure how much I'll use it.

the G4 feels so much thinner than it is. Like, officially the z1 is 8.5mm but it's a cube. The G4 is tapered.

You dont realise this until you dont have it, but it's nice to have the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the bottom (unlike z1). I find this more natural though YMMV. Also I use bluetooth headphones only almost these days hashtag cuttingthewire.

The LG software is....well it's there. I have no plans on using them much. I have my own calendar/fitness tracking/to-do/memo which suits my workflow. I might play around with them to give them a chance but I'm not exactly excited about them.

Any questions, feel free to ask. I'll be away for the next couple days but I'll answer any when I get back.

    nope sorry.

Speaker is pretty good actually. It's sharp and loud. Not exactly boom sound, but better than my Z1, even if it is back facing.

Got mine today :) Out of curiosity, how does the screen seem to anybody else? White's seem very subtlety yellow (warm) on mine, especially when you compare it to lets say, my main desktop IPS monitor. From reviews, the G4 isn't meant to have bad battery life (averaging in about 4 hrs 30, which is decent but not amazing)

When you change the lock screen to swipe, you can change the animations they're below it in settings, or is that not what you mean?

I'm finding the battery life on par with my G2, I had it on 100% coming into work yesterday (8am) and it was on 9% at 11 o clock last night. I'm a pretty heavy user, watching youtube videos, imgur, spotify and the usual social media so I thought that was pretty decent.

Love the feel in the hand, for a big device it doesn't feel cumbersome.

Also on the camera, people don't believe that I've taken the pictures because they look so good! Not a camera expert though so I'm not the best to be reviewing the camera.

Only one thing I'd like to change, I'd like to be able to change the size of the icons on the home screen. Oh and when I press the 'Clear All' in the recent apps in seems a little slow.

Mine is showing export from Bologna on Friday, still delivery for Wednesday.
I'd say your tracking just has a glitch, give it time. It will prob update again within 24 hours.

If it does fail, your contract is with the seller, not ups.

Thanks for that pat. I didn't know lg weren't in the market here. With the s6 battery life issues it doesn't leave much options then. I had thought huawei p8 or lg g4 so this narrows options to 1!

I haven't had it yet for a normal couple of days. I've heard that battery life gets more consistent after a few charge cycles. I'll report back in a couple days now I'm back home/work.

My guess is going to be under 3 hours SoT. I was hoping for 5+.

I'm finding the SOT to be fantastic. 41% remaining with 3hrs 50 screen on time. 11 hrs 20 min off charger :o Seriously impressed. This is with heavy draining battery life apps such as Facebook installed.

So is it 11 hours once fully charged or 4 hours? Seems like a big difference!

  • Registered Users Posts: 320 ✭✭Interrobang

I'm in a holding pattern now, trying to decide between the G4 and the G3. Those of you who have used both, does the G4 justify the extra spend?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,297 ✭✭✭N64

11 hours refers to how long the device has actually been on for (incl. standby) 4 hours refers to how long the screen has been on for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,560 ✭✭✭Squeeonline

    57% remaining
    Been using for 8hrs 34min
    Estimated time remaining 9hrs 37m
Screen on 46 min = 10% battery use.
Like an hour and half listening to spotify (only trying it out, I don't like streaming.

    me=not happy.

I have a feeling location pinging is draining the battery but cant be sure since I can't root and look at wakelocks.

I have location on and it dosen't effect anything. Try disabling the smart notice ****e

    Smart settings? I like that.

Otherwise I'm using Nova launcher so very little default LG remains already!

edit: Does anyone else notice that the battery sits at 100% for ages then drops? I estimate that 100% lasts for about 3-5% of normal. Been listening to podcasts, flicked through reddit briefly, 17 min SoT and still at 100%.

    Nope I'm at 92% with 18mins SoT

I have received parcel motel deliveries on a Saturday and a Sunday. In fact my last delivery was on a Sunday. If it gets to PM tonight, you might have it tomorrow night in your selected motel depending on location.

yeah, but GPS is misleading since loads of apps use it. It gets the blame for potentially other apps pinging for location or whatever.

Without root and a wakelock detector, it'll be difficult to figure it out. I guess that some apps might not yet be optimised for 5.* and draining excess. Of course, LG (nor android) hasn't got a proper permission system set up to micromanage permissions for location etc.

Hopefully the battery drain issue is something that can be fixed in a future firmware release? I'm hearing good things about the Doze functionality in android M which might help down the line.
