Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Has anyone pre ordered yet?

Nope, and probably won't be. Going to wait for reviews on this, and than make up my mind.

    For the 1st time ever.

A massive flop in Korea where it was targetted during design.

Is not unique, there is plenty of these styles of Asian MMO's that simply dont transfer well to here. The animation looks incredible, the worlds look great, but thats that typical over the top animation and art design that just doesnt do well here in Europe,

    Plus you cant target mobs..wtf?

Dont think it will do well : /

It should be applauded for trying to do things differently imo. The last thing we need is another Warcraft clone in a different skin. The combat looks really interesting, and is the main reason i'm interested in it. Granted, graphically it looks excellent, but that's not as important as combat for me.

It'll probably keep me entertained until GW2 anyway.

I think thats the game's main selling point that makes it stand out from the rest of the wow/eq-clones. But maybe thats where it ends. In the end its not the combat that makes us play MMOs its progressing and creating our characters etc

As far as I know, it has been reworked a fair bit for the "western world".

It still looks fairly Asian to me but I'm interested in how the politics will work out etc.

The "flop" in Korea was apparently because the game was too easy of a grind.
Over there, the bigger the grind is, the bigger the achievement it is to be on the list of people who have completed it.
Everyone was on the list for Tera so nobody felt special I guess :(

And I'm not sure how much autoaim there is in this but I have heard you must aim in order to aim most stuff, especially in PvP.

But yeah, its probably gonna tie some people over untill GW2.

it was supposed to released here and the states last year, but they've made a lot more changes to it for us westerners.

I was excited about this, but just lost interest because it's taken so long. Apparently its an early may release. Tbh i will probably end up buying it if diablo3 still hasnt been released by then. But i probably wont sub it :/

Im addicted, everyone should play this game, its in closed beta atm, and servers are only online friday-sunday.

    I would recommend it!

Deffo wait for reviews, just don't trust asian mmo's, they really aren't suited for western gamers

I thought the reason why Tera was being released 12 months later in the west was, so they could make it more suited for western gamers.

it is, at least thats what bluehole (terrible name) have been saying about its delayed release anyway.

I've been playing this weekend (Slayer, level 11, almost 12 with a couple of hours game play) and it's a very nice game. It has races actually looking different, the whole thing with no targeting etc. is nice as well and it is something different then WoW. If you're a PvEer it looks like something people may want to check out.

Sadly for me I appear burned out on MMO PvE games at the moment so not my kettle of fish.

I thought the whole game was geared around PvP? Thats whats has me interested along with the no targeting and combos etc

I know i said i wasn't gonna beta test it but i was actually gonna check it out this weekend, but as i was working most of it i didn't have the 4-5h free to sit on my ass in a net cafe with decent dl speed to download the client during the last 4-5 days so any updates on how the Beta weekend went would be great.

    Bloody work :(

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,213 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Played a few hours over the weekend, but i'm still not sold on it to be honest. The combat is very good, but i'm not sure it's enough to keep me interested. It's very generic regarding quests, and it nothing but kill quests from what (admittedly little) i've seen. Not sure i've got the stomach for another grind fest, even if the combat is fun.

It also looks fantastic, though the Elin are kind of creepy.

They got the standard type of quests (gather from ground, delivery of item X etc.) as well; what I did like with the kill quests so far was they you always had a drop (i.e. no rare drop BS) and that you could reduce the killing required by killing the full group in one go (i.e. kill the hanger on mobs and the boss with in X sec and you got 2 items rather then one).

I managed to get one key for the second US closed beta but nothing since, I'll probably try the open beta in both US and EU. My initial impressions are good but I wouldn't pre order on an MMO unless I had absolute conviction it would hold my interest in the long term.

Open Beta US is April 19-22
Open Beta EU is April 19-24

If you want to play the download is huge. Download before the tests if you want to play either closed or open betas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,191 ✭✭✭uncle_sam_ie

I played the last couple of weekends and enjoyed the game but I don't think I'll be getting it when it's released. The monthly fee is what's stopping me.

got into the closed beta this weekend, the client is pretty big. took around 2and half hours at 3mbps

beats the crap out of doing nothing in orgrimmar for the weekend :D

I'm in as well, though i doubt i'll get to play it much.

Played a few of the weekends and still can't decide whether or not to buy it. open beta starts Friday also for those of you who have not got to play it yet.

Open Beta this weekend,i didnt bother with the 20 odd gig download  but im very keen to try this out, it seems to be going down well, i watched a few streams lastnight on twitch tv and most were raving about it, the combat looks great.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,213 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I've got the client updated, and will try it again later. Want to get to lvl20, as that is when it's supposed to get much more fun with hige enemies all over the place that actually are tough to fight. The starter area's are exactly the same as any starter area i've ever played, and got quite boring quickly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20 lostbooks

I played the open beta this weekend; got to level twenty, played around with the crafting and enchantment while doing some exploration and then at the end put everything I had found or created on the auction house for one copper. I was happily surprised to see it’s possible to solo a priest to twenty and I like the visual style of the game a great deal, I got to see one big monster and then have my priestly ass handed to me in quick succession.

I was surprised to discover that there are known issues with the first instance at the end of the starter island which became locked in a state that meant it was not possible to complete until it was done as a group. That issue seems to be that if the priest NPC who accompanies a solo player does more damage than you at a certain stage it all goes FUBAR, so kill him off on early MOBS and you should be fine. I also experienced some very odd visual issues even using the latest drivers for my Sapphire 5870 HD, some graphic elements would appear black with flashing white ‘tears’ at the edges.

I am still in two minds as to playing the game so would be interested in others experiences with the betas both closed and open and if you think you will be playing.

I was playing today for a short while before open beta finishes up. Some interesting features.
Someone noted that you cannot directly target mobs. Personally (after a bit of practice) I quite enjoyed this. I find the combat system much more fun than the generic mmo system of target, click, pewpew.
Missing, dodging, blocking all done manually and not only based on stats and %.
Area looked quite nice but I didn't get to play for too long to experience it fully.
It was quite a bit confusing in the beginning not having a mouse pointer clicking around where I wanted but you get used to it very quick.

Like I said, didn't play for too long but from what I did, I enjoyed. I'm not gonna rush and pre-order it though as I still have time and enjoyment out of TOR. I'll wait for it to be alive for a while and see what reviews it gets and enhancements it brings out. There is always some early patching done after a release.

Made my mind up after about an hour playing the closed beta last week, I wont be buying this.
In no particular order, this is why..

The voice acting is cheesy, even for a Korean mmo.
The quests are crap, no immersion or reason for caring why my character is doing what he/she/it's doing.
The gimmicky free targeting system is awkward and to me it seems like it was designed for a console controller rather than a keyboard and mouse.

The characters may as well ALL be pornstars, including the pandas and that super creepy child race with the unbelievably short skirts.. Sorry but that's just going too far imo. Blatantly perverted. I'm no prude but i'd rather not see a character in an mmo that looks like something from an x-rated version of 'toddlers and tiaras'.

While the game looks decent enough with backgrounds and mobs, that's all i found that it had going for it. It's just too crap to even compare to other mmo's imo.

Save your cash, resub to wow or swtor while you wait for the next wowkiller because this definitely isn't it.

I was in some of the betas for Tera, aint played it in months had a mmo itch after GW2. I know tera is on its headstart weekend I still had it installed done about a 2GB update and I just wanted to see what It said, see if i could get it on w/e dont ask me why i was bothering.

But it has let me login create a char and I am in the game with a lvl 20 char in some prolouge area, surely there isnt still a beta running? How come I can get in and was not told no active subscription or the likes?

Im enjoying it alot, haven't been able to stop playing since i got home, there is alot of derivative elements in it, but you really don't care because the combat is just so much fun.

  • Registered Users Posts: 263 ✭✭ShaneScouse

Picked it up meself, have to admit i got bitten by the MMO bug afte the guildwars2 beta and this seemed like a nice fill in till sept/oct when GW2 is out.

At first its a basic mmo, quests are usuall fare, but the combat and the graphics make it stand out a little. Fast forward to lvl 22 and christ is there alot more depth to this game then I assumed or people give it credit.
Best UI ive seen in a mmo by a country mile, gfx as Ive said, the music and atmosphere in alot of the areas combined with them looking amazing realy is nice to lvl in. The combat gets more complicated more you lvl as more skills, and you gota move/kit use your dodge and tele stuff right esp if trying to solo really hard grp mobs or the likes, its realy good fun. been a long time since I had to actually use skill in a mmo, is so fresh and welcome.
Its not just standing still and pressing tab and 1,2,1,1,2 tab again till mobs are dead, I really enjoy it.

It has a LFG tool that seems to work perfect at launch which nearly gave me a heartattack after my history with other mmos and woefull systems. they are bringing in pvp warfronts during summer which should be a nice addition, and the crafting and enchantments and stuff are very well done.

As I said games alot more deep and rewarding then most give it credit, inc myself till I played it for couple of days. I defo recommend it, esp for those gagging for GW2 to come out :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 175 ✭✭Companion box

Couldn't agree more, tried a load of different mmo's, dc universe online, rift and swtor but i haven't had this much fun with an mmo in a long time.

Let me know what server you are on dude.

Watched about 25 mins of a stream lastnight and i must admit it looks alot of fun.

Is the tera store the only place to get this digitally? Paying €15 extra to not receive a physical copy is not very appealing:(

Here you go. Price comparison for digital download. So tempted to get it as the combat really is very good, but really can't afford this with Diablo 3 out in 10 days.

Not sure where else does it, im sure you can google around. Its €40 to buy the physical game on play.com and the likes, €50 on teras site for the digital game

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭Completionist

Any complaints about Onlinekeystore? From the link above they work out the cheapest at ~€35 which is the same price as the physical version from Amazon.
