If tut 19 starts in March/April with one show a week then June/ July sounds bout right-

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,607 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Unless I'm mistaken the finale always airs immediately after the end of the series so if the series is on March/April, then the finale will be on days after the final episode and not in June/July.
I'm not sure how you are working that out.
The series is usually about 13 episodes long. So if it starts it march/april, the finale episode will be in june/july. With the finale soon after.

Apologies to yourself and tmfr, you are both right of course. For some reason when I originally did my calculations it seemed that June/July were too far away from the proposed series start dates, but doing them again I can see they are perfectly reasonable.

    Sorry again, chaps. :o

With the TUF 19 finale being announced for July 6th, when do you reckon we'll get a damn air date?

The season will start airing in mid April

Any word if it'll be broadcast on BT Sports or is it some online job like the current TUF?

  • Registered Users Posts: 435 ✭✭SevereMMA

Havent heard anything yet about BT

Some previews were released for each of the coaches. Pendred and Fields have been confirm to star as part of the season.

A tweet from Conor McGregor also
says that they've made it into the house too. Is it just me or is that Pendred getting floored in the first few seconds of the Edgar preview above? Hope not.

I thought so too but that person has a beard, and although Pendred has a beard now, apparently he didn't have one then, so it might not be him.

I dunno anyways we'll have to wait and see. He vacated his CW WW title a few weeks ago officially and said good news was on the horizon so either way there are good things coming for him in the future.

That's him with Chael at the tryouts, beard in tact. Maybe it's another fighter though.

If you skip to 0:17 in the BJ Penn video, is that Cathal sans beard knocking down his red opponent?

But then, if you skip to 0:19 in the same video, is that not Pendred with a beard (in the green octagon)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,607 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

One of the other contestants looks a bit like Cathal, different tattoo, possibly bigger weight class

  • Registered Users Posts: 164 ✭✭BeepBeep!

Looks very much like Pendred to me that gets knocked out, hopefully not! No one has picked up on this yet either but the very next action shot shows Fields taking a heavy shot and appears to heading to the ground before it cuts away. This is definitely Fields (tattoo proves it).

Yea looks like Pendred getting KO'd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,476 ✭✭✭✭Ush1

Almost sure that's Pendred getting KO'd. He has blue shorts, same as Chris Fields taking a big right hand later. AFAIK, they were both on team Penn.

    But hope it's not him.

Am I the only person who spotted Nordine Taleb in both videos?? As in the same Nordine Taleb who is currently in TUF Nations 'Canada v Australia'??

If it's not him then it's his twin. He appears in red shorts in birth videos fighting a bearded guy with long hair.

the TUF spoilers always make you think this and then something else happens.

Dont find it fair that Taleb gets another shot at a TUF, IMO competing against a weak MMA nation.

Cathal Pendred and Chris Fields: Our TUF Experience – Part 1

    chriscathaltuf19.jpg

Ahead of the season premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 19, PETER CARROLL spoke to Irish hopefuls, former Cage Warriors world champions Cathal Pendred and Chris Fields about their decision to try out for the show, moving up a weight division and the benefits of having a team mate to share the experience with.

Two of Ireland’s premier mixed martial artists, Cathal Pendred and Chris Fields, will look to go one step further than their fellow countrymen – Joseph Duffy, Paul McVeigh and Paddy Holohan – as they attempt to make it into The Ultimate Fighter 19 house, with the pre-recorded series set to be beamed around the world on Thursday, April 17th.

Two former world champions, Pendred having given up his 170lbs Cage Warriors title to pursue the reality television platform, both he and Fields are no strangers to their names being linked to UFC contracts over the years and the Dublin duo explained why they felt the time was right to try-out for the show.

“The first series of TUF was on about the same time as I started to fight, I’ve watched it for a long time and I always have liked the show,” said former Cage Warriors middleweight champion, Fields. “Everything seemed to be popping off over here and Cathal was expected to be signed to the UFC after winning his last fight, so I figured it would be a good time for me to give it a go.”

Linked with moves to both UFC and WSOF after his last bout with UFC veteran Che Mills, Pendred outlined the thinking behind his try out.

“After the Che fight I thought a UFC contract might happen and when it didn’t I just couldn’t see another fight that would prove that I was ready for it. Since I’ve turned pro all I’ve been focused on is climbing the ranks and I really wanted to fight Paul Daley, but when he signed for BAMMA I knew that was off the table.

Hahaha, Cathal was the first fighter ever to get a bye into the house, all his opponents got injured (chickened out when they realised they were fighting Cathal)

Isn't that the same for every season though? Only 4 or 5 real contendors, the rest lose early on and just spend 8 weeks getting hammered and acting like twats

As far as I know Fields had a back injury going into the fight, will be watching it after work so want to see if its obvious in his movement.

Not at all tbh. Fields didn't look good in his fight and appeared to be losing before the other guy's injury, Pendred didn't fight so the coaches didn't know what he was about. So no surprise to see them picked near the end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,539 ✭✭✭John_D80

Anyone else think BJ was very relaxed about his first fight selection?

I mean, if I was a coach I would have selected a guy I had seen fight already and win well and pick an opponent to suit him. He didn't even realise he could pick the opponent until it was pointed out to him and even then he just said 'whoever was their last pick'. Giving up control can be disastrous for a team in TUF.

Dont get me wrong here, I am absolutely delighted for Pendred that he has a chance to prove himself, as he must have been very disappointed when he got the bye but I just though BJ was far too easy going about it.

Thought that myself, very surprised how both coaches didn't seem to rate Cathal, he was the 6th pick out of 8, hasn't his reputation gone before him, or have they just not done any research at all?

I agree to a point. Me personally, if I was a coach, I'd have my research done on all 32 fighters as long as possible before the fight day. But at the end of the day, there is just no substitute for seeing someone up close and be able to see the little nuances that you just won't see in a YouTube highlight reel or read off of sherdog.

The coaches can only formulate a opinion based on what they know and seeing a fella in the flesh is far more favourable than going by rep alone.

No doubt in my mind though, Cathal will rise to the top and be a serious contender for this seasons title.
