Has anyone had any problems with the Mini 0806 vibrating in its mount? My coal burner seems to make the dashcam vibrate in the mount at around 1000-1100 RPM and it's annoying as hell in traffic.

Any fixes besides hot gluing the camera in the mount?

I've never had this issue, I've only ever installed/removed it from its base about 4/5 times maybe!! I always try to keep it to a minimum as I'd imaging constantly removing/inserting it will loosen the connection.

how about putting a little bit of paper it at each side (ensuring you're not covering the contacts), to maybe thicken up the male part of the mount?

I've removed it from the mount every time I've had to get footage. I guess I can try and thicken it up a bit with some electrical tape maybe instead of paper.

Just remove the SD card from the camera!!

Isn't that what everyone else does??

Just remove the card, not the camera!!

Use the bottom sd card slot and it's easy to remove the card only!

I don't just push on the card to remove it though, I'll hold the camera steady in its position then press the card.

Same with my 0801 though I'd remove that card a lot less as it's the rear facing camera.

Put a new dash cam in our '06 Audi A4. Problem is the cigarette lighter port stays on constant, even when the key is out. Therefore dash cam will never turn off. Any ideas? Don't want it killing the battery on the car.

I currently have a 151 BMW 3 series rental car that does that, and it's a pain in the hoop, my own 06 3 Series is powered on/off with the ignition.

Maybe a good auto electrician could change the cig lighter to go on/off with the ignition?

Sorted it with some electrical tape. If I remove it again the tape falls off because there's so much pressure from it so I'll leave it in and take out the card instead :)

Was hoping for a magic solution but was thinking that. Maybe if use some of those scotsblock things into the light of the glove box? Not sure where its easiest to the find a switched live.

Just buy an "add-a-circuit" piggyback fuse holder and find a switched fuse, works perfectly, easy to fit and easy to remove.

Perfect. Thanks! Negative to the car body?

    Hi all,

I'm new to dashcams but handy enough with consumer tech, phones etc.

I'm about to purchase a 2013 VW Touareg and I'd like to install a discreetly wired dashcam with the following attributes:-

Do you only need a frontfacing camera or also cabin view? - Front facing only. Rear facing would be a nice to have but not essential.

Budget? - Flexible. I'm going to have the car for 5-6 years so looking for a good performer which will last. Always looking for good value for money though.

Start automatically with engine or always-on? I think always on. I reverse into my parking space at home at night so the camera would be facing the entrance and could act as a useful CCTV camera at night.

    Removable? Not sure.

Wi-Fi - Yes. Where I park at night it would be within range of my home Wi-Fi so I like the idea that I could access it over the network, review the last 24 hours (or whatever time period is normally kept on a continuous loop) and select any footage I wanted uploaded to Dropbox or other online storage.

I'm looking for a) help to identify the right unit to purchase and b) a recommendation for where I can get it professionally installed. (I'm based in the Stillorgan/Sandyford area)

    Cheers.

^^^ No suggestions? Am I in the wrong forum?

Nice one Mick! I have the same and with the polarising filter also. I didn't bother with the cable tidy as I don't have much space.

    How are you powering it?

Well my Mini 0806 is still vibrating at 1100 RPM but I realised it's not vibrating in the actual mount. The vibration is happening at the plastic band on the actual dashcam itself where it allows the camera to rotate. I will put a few spots of hot glue and hopefully it will stop it :)

    Fcukin diesel smoothness :pac:

Welded the whole dashcam together yesterday with hot glue so it's no longer removable from the mount. No more vibrations and the video footage isn't as shaky :p

I was looking at that yesterday and it looks like a great piece of kit. Where are you thinking of purchasing from?

Are the mini 0806 a good buy?

Going to bite the bullet and get one as I am prone to a little problem of people running into me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,881 ✭✭✭shietpilot

I have a Mini 0806 but I would go for a Mini 0805. They are more reliable for sure. The 0806 has twin SD card slots and pretty much once a month it stops recording and begins beeping due to SD card errors. I suspect the oldest video it wants to delete is a small file sometimes and there's not enough space for a new clip which causes the problems.

Very very good dashcam when it works (0806) but the 0805 is cheaper and more reliable.

Techmoan has the link in the review of where he bought it.It comes from China directly. The only minor thing is i wish it had a lens filter built in but i will probably add one myself.

Yes, I saw that but how much will our friendly customs agents add?

I've had the nextbase 212 for about a month now. Fit and forget. No errors or anything like that. Footage is decent once I worked out that the problems were user error and not the fault of the dashcam (RTFM!)

Which firmware version are you using out of interest? Some of them are more stable than others. I'm using the latest from May 2016.

Would like to sell this quickly! It will make a great workhorse for someone.

    Good points

    Tax 11/16
    Very reliable for us
    Bluetooth kit installed
