I think the hardware in other areas are doing well so I guess they've given up here. Its a pity alright if they had of kept up the standard they used to have id still be there once a week :-/

Not that I was ever a fan of Jaffa's but this town is becoming more and more limited to places to get some daycent grub!

Any update on Coyles steakhouse? Has anyone else tried since the owner posted on here?

Im heading on a date this evening and we are heading to Brú. Anyone have any opinions on this and what is recommended/not recommended from the menu?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 mornington man

Bru is a nice place for meeting and food. their menu is varied and good. Go for what you like. Personal recommendations are just that, ie other peoples preferences. If you have any queries then ask the staff. Enjoy!!

PS Must be serious, you could have been brought to McDonalds, just across the river Ha Ha:D:D:D

Thanks for the advice. Oh and thats very true, and then we would have had a lovely view of the swanky restaurant across the water as I feel her daggers being pierced into my skull while im looking over at it!!:D

Have done a date or 2 in Bru myself! I got the Salmon Teriyaki [can't spell it!] but noodles are a tricky one to eat on a first date haha!

Best of luck though :) I'm always a fan of the Black Bull for a date but bound to run into someone I know there so generally Bru it is!

Just abad word about Bia. Sick to DEATH with the angry, bored, rude waitress there that seems to think that every customer is an inconvenience to her day. It's the older lady. (The others are wonderful)

A few friends have already sworn never to go back because it just ruins the entire experience for them. She held back the baby bowl for a screaming hungry baby until AFTER the main dishes for the adults arrived, pretty shocking. On top of that she was rude and miserable as always making customers feel bad about their visit.

Even in these times customer service is STILL hitting rock bottom. What do we have to do to convince businesses how important it is especially when they have a good thing going and the only thing letting it down is one or two really bad staff who think they own the place and can do what they like.

Completely agree. I have had several bad experiences with her and had my concerns raised a few times to the manager (the black haired polish woman who doesnt seem to be there anymore). She seemed to be alright for a while until she left.

Went to Relish in Southgate for the first time today. The place was packed (about 3pm) but I managed to get a table. I ordered the Bacon Butty (actually a sausage and bacon sandwich with red pepper relish on thick crusty bread), which was enormous and delicious! The bacon was several layers thick, and there were several sausages. The bread was a real "doorstep" cut, very fresh and the crust was really crunchy.

Their coffee was very tasty, if not quite as hot as I like it (I like to mull over my coffee not drink it quickly because it's getting cool!).

Service was prompt and friendly, I couldn't fault it.

The decor was interesting (looked like some of the pictures were for sale - I thought I saw prices on them), it's not typical of a shopping centre café at all. Background music wasn't intrusive (it wasn't a radio station either).

Enjoyed the experience, I'll be back!

Was in Relish other day was impressed. Just had a coffee but service and atmosphere were great. However was in Bia today and had the Triple Decker sandwich. Was plenty on it but wad inedible with the amount of salt. Service wasn't great either seemed bait unusual for them!

Went to Sorrentos (again) on Saturday night. How much do I love that place? :) Anyway, himself got the special - a 12oz Rib Eye Steak. Have to say it was very impressive! It came with onions and mushrooms, Genoa chips. It was served with either a Pepper Sauce or a Tomato Sauce and the girl brought him both for no extra charge. The tomato sauce was amazing! First time that I've ever seen them doing a special like that before, fair play to them for trying something different! And it was very reasonable too, only 16.95 for the steak. :D:D:D

Had the misfortune to have eaten in the D Hotel last week. Was with a couple of friends and all the meals were pretty grim. The only part of any meal that was ok, was a piece of pork belly. but this came with a lump of stodgy mash and watery cabbage, both luke warm. The falafals were dire.... barely warm and in a cold untoasted pitta with a lot of bad salad. Really pricey for what we got, won't be going back. :(

Had a lovely meal in the Eastern Sea Board on a busy night but a week later had another meal that wasn't half as good with slow slow service even though the place was half empty.

Has King of Kings Chinese closed? Noticed last night it wasn't open and then tonight the same and the letters for the name of the shop have been taken down now too. I'll be gutted it it's closed down, my favourite Chinese in Drogheda.

Husband and I had a meal in West29 last night, and we were very impressed.

The food was great - nice selection of starters with the Tapas and Antipasti board, lovely mains, we didn't try desert mind you - too full at that stage.

There was a nice lively crowd too, atmosphere and decor is lovely... but what made the evening were the staff. They were excellent - attentive, friendly and helpful but not OTT. Nice touch with the complimentary bread and soup taster also.

We only went there because we couldn't get a reservation at ESB :D !

    King of Kings
I will also miss King of Kings - we got our weekly take-away from there every Friday. Suprised though - I thought it was really popular, maybe not during the week though?

Have eaten there 3 times now and every time it has been top notch, service excellent and the food great. Nice variety in the menu

My only regret writing this is it will get far more difficult to get a table now as it is not the biggest place.

Oh and the rolo cheesecake is savage......

What time do they start serving on a weekday, or is the kitchen open all day for lunch etc like ESB?

Had lunch at The Kitchen on Saturday and was very impressed. The menu is quite small and a bit daunting at first but the food was really lovely and very reasonable. I had two salads for 3.95. The Bulghar Wheat one was particularly nice! Also, shared a pot of tea with a friend and managed to get four cups each out of the pot! Staff were very nice too and were not in a rush to kick us out! We were there for two hours and in spite of it being a busy afternoon for them, the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Will defo be back! Nice to see a place that is a bit different in Drogheda! Well Done! :D

Is it good?Does it do carvery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,012 ✭✭✭furiousox

Yeah it's ok, the usual carvery fare.
You won't be delayed ordering and it gives you a head start if you need to get to Dublin too.

Thanks.Does Black Bull do carvery?Heard its pretty good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,012 ✭✭✭furiousox

    No, doesn't do carvery.
Food is pretty good but you'll have to order and wait, can be busy at lunchtime too so if time is a factor you'd be better heading for the Glenside.

Another vote for the Glenside! Had the carvery a couple of weeks ago. Huge portions & reasonable price.

Defo not closed! Had a good steady stream of people coming in and out on Saturday :)

Went to Harper's today. Had the chicken curry with half rice and half chips. My dad had sausages, scrambled eggs, tomato, mushrooms and brown bread. He said the sausages were great, while my curry was yummy.

The chips were nice and big, I'm more of a fan of them than the fries in other places, although the fries you get in Eddie Rockets are great.

I also got a bowl of soup. I thought it would be about the same size as the bowls of soup you can get in Bia, but it was massive. Lovely, but afterwards my tummy hurt, way too much food for me!

My dad still liked the coffee too.

Has anyone tried The Riverside Restaurant yet? It's down on the North Quay where Bella Atina used to be. Has an ad in the paper this week saying three courses for two with bottle of wine for 45 yoyos!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 726 ✭✭✭Lister1

Thought I would try Mo's Takeaway at Bryanstown Cross Route today. Waited four minutes without my order being taken before I walked out. Seems that they are too busy taking phone orders then dealing with the people standing in front of them. Went up to the takeaway in Wheaton Hall instead. Cant be beaten imo....

Four minutes? Sounds a bit impatient to say the least.

Expect an order to be taken within that time especially if they arent busy.

Was in Bru last night for the first time, would definitely go back, food was lovely, service was friendly and attentive without being in your face and I thought €22 for 3 courses is good value.

The pheasant has a new Menu now, been twice in last 2 weeks and cant fault it so far.
The burgers are excellent, come well topped and with plenty of chips.
You get a little pot with chopped onions mixed with tomato ketchup which is a nice addition.
