I'll be honest, its unlikely but I could be wrong.

I was quite surprised with KOL selling out in 40 minutes.

But maybe the boost from the crowd who attend Slane every year and a great support bill will help them sell it out.
Yea i was kinda shocked aswell about KOL selling 80,000 and then selling a further 14,000 for the O2 (i know a lot of people would have gone to both) . I think if the had Coldplay and Snow Patrol on the bill it will sell well imo

Yeah if a strong support, like snow patrol, can be signed up with Coldplay Slane could well sell out. Plus with no oxygen this year there will be a certain cohort interested in going along for the 'experience' and not caring much whose playing.

I wish The Strokes were touring now.

Nowadays you can see two arena-sized acts supporting the headliner at Slane.

I'd say Coldplay, Snow Patrol and The Strokes would be a sure sell out.

That would be an awful waste of a Strokes gig. If they do come hopefully its indoor.

Thank you guys for your continued interest in the Slane 2012 Concert. I have informed Lord Henry on all of your comments and he is even aware of the newly formed 'Coldplay fo Slane' page.
I will of course keep you all updated on any further developments regarding the concert.

    Thanks a million.

So only The Stone Roses and Coldplay have been mentioned by the official facebook page. That says a lot.

Suppose it depends when Slane is going to be on(if it does happen)

  • Registered Users Posts: 321 ✭✭Chevolution

I'd love it to be the big 4! Definitely not gonna happen though :p

I wreckon Paul McCartney will with one big act supporting. The rest will be the Coronas or Bressie or something like that. Then again I could be wrong and Lada GaGa will play supported by Nicky Minaj and someone else ****e...

Guessing there's no Slane this year then? Surely it'd have been announced by now?

My thoughts were exactly the same.

MCD will more than likely be focusing on the PP concerts.

    Macca is a definite no.

Not a bit of harm. I'd rather save my money for something like Forbidden Fruits or Body and Soul. Better value for your money than going to see some bloated commercial act like Kings Of Leon or Coldplay taking your money and making a run for it.

I'm sorry but I can't stand this attitude. I'm not even a fan of Kings of Leon (I think last year was probably the worst Slane line-up ever), but you're complaining about some "bloated commercial act taking your money and making a run for it" If you don't want to spend your money on an act like KOL, simply don't go to Slane the year they're playing. Simple as. Some people enjoy their concerts, some don't.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea when/if Slane will be announced? Would love to see Coldplay but I'm going away this Summer. :(

I think it was penned for september and yes Coldplay are the most likely to headline.

Having said that Coldplay were lined up to play the Aviva but that didn't go ahead, so I could see a possible Slane date also scrapped. Hopefully it won't but I would have liked to have heard something by this stage.

It depends on (if) Slane is happening and when they will have the concert . They could be aiming for the gig in August(for Foo Fighters ;);) ) so they have loads of time to announce it since it would be 6 months in advance

Coldplay would be great, excellent at Oxegen and would be able to handle the big crowd.
The Killers were announced for V Festival in August, perhaps a possibility.
Green Day might be at Reading in August, but thats just me dreaming :p

Coldplay are the only likely of those three.

The Killers and Green Day if anything will be playing at the Phoenix Park gigs.

I've heard that Green Day will not be at Reading and Leeds, but that they are doing an arena tour in September...

I don't think there will be a Slane this year.

Then there's Slane. Coldplay was the big rumour and while that seems to have gone a little cold, if Slane happens it seems a cert they'll be headliners. If not, Foo Fighters are a possibility - I'm convinced they'll play either Dublin or Slane this summer.

Awaits for the "maybe FF will support them" like last year with KOL people saying FF would support them at Slane .

Why? Are the Lab/FG coalition introducing a Dail motion to have Coldplay do Slane this year and they need FF support due to the handful of backbenchers who will lost the whip by voting down the motion because they are into music and realise Coldplay are ****e?

What would Foo Fighters be doing on a support bill?

I know they aren't as big in Ireland as elsewhere but I still can't imagine them supporting anyone, especially as they were a support act at that venue twice before.

Really I doubt there will be a Slane this year, surely they would have announced it by now looking at how the recession has affected sales of big gigs like this one.

Green Day are rumored to have a tour landing in the UK in the Autumn.

Slane is very much a possibilty for them as they are a band that could easily sell it out, given they have a somewhat decent special guest.
