I think the same about the meelec m6. Bit too woolly/muddy and too much bass.

Well for me anyway. I do like them because they seal well, for isolation on bus, office and are small so you can rest your head on a pillow etc. I would like something similar sized, but just with better SQ.

Just received my M6s. First impressions was that they were muddy, as you've said. Isolation on them is great though, and they are mainly for exercise so I amn't too bothered. Overall build quality and the included accessories (6 different eartips & case) seem decent though. For the price, they were probably a decent buy.

How are the vsonics? Thinking of ordering them from lendmeurears, how long did delivery take?

Responded to your PM, but for the sake of others, I'm very happy with the GR02. They're not over-the-top bassy, nice and clear. I'd buy another pair without hesitation.

Different price range to most of the 'phones in this thread, but worth mentioning anyway -- http://www.head-fi.org/t/626714/cosmic-ears-new-ciem-company-with-crazy-low-prices-including-hybrid-designs

I got a pair of Auvio earphones from a friend who'd been to America , great earphones , but same as the Sony ones mentioned at the start , the right one stopped working. But they lasted for about 4 months until that happened. Great sound quality , and completely sound blocking , as they went in to your earhole , not just resting on the outside as the others do.

They looked like this (pretty cool if you ask me):
    1.jpg

And my friend told me she got them for only 10$! So , great price if you can buy them online , I'd suggest them if you dont have much money to spend on earphones , and need a few due to musical cravings in public places ;)

I got a some Sony MDR-XD200 headphones in hmv for €30 :-) they have really rich sound and deep bass. Although they come with a movies/music switch, changing it makes no difference :-\ but aside from that, great buy :-)

No idea what they're like but thought I would mention Ibood have the Denon AH-D400 headphones for €150 today.

I bought vsonic gr06 from this seller. worth spending the extra over the gr02 - 63 dollars incl postage. took a week to get to me from purchase from Singapore. signed for post.

GR06 have amazing build quality (best cable I've ever seen on iems) and fab sound. great fit too and lots of tips included, along with cool pouch.

    here's an interesting one....

this guy on head-fi - does an iem shootout

    http://www.head-fi.org/t/541204/concise-multi-iem-comparison-sony-mh1-mh1c-added-oct-23th-2012

and he rates sony mh1 c
    http://www.head-fi.org/t/632892/review-sony-mh1-the-best-kept-secret

    as an amazing iem.

thing is that you can get it for 8.95 (+ post to ire £6) on amazon.co.uk I bought one as less than 20 euro delievered. worth a shot.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Headset-SmartKey-Control-XPERIA/dp/B008OG16EQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1351113309&sr=8-2

don't be put off by fact that it has a remote control. in fact this will work on android phones (recent ones, not just sony) so could well suit you. will report back when I get it.

on amazon.... not from people who know their stuff like head-fi. the average user wouldn't know if a good sound slapped them around the head :)

anyways- not a huge risk for 20 yoyo. will report when I get them...

    http://www.mp4nation.net/brainwavz-r1-dual-dynamic-speaker-in-ear-earphones

Excellent build quality, nearly perfect sound isolation and a lot of accessories (Different sized silicone tips, one set of biflange tips, one set of memory foam tips, 3.5mm-1/4" adapter, flight adapter and a hard case to keep everything in.

As for the sound itself, it's definitely up there as one of the best headphones i've ever used. The bass is detailed and powerful and i'd even go so far as to say it beats most over-ear headphones (That i've tried) when it comes to clarity. As for the mids, they're a tiny bit less prominent than the bass and treble but not by a huge deal. Still very detailed and clear though. As for the treble, they're very good and not too bright but there's still the odd bit of sibilance (Although in fairness the sibilance isn't really the headphone's fault).

All in all, they sound fantastic and are a real joy to use. An absolute steal at that price too.

The issues weren't about SQ (mostly) they were about fit issues with the cable. Something also mentioned on HeadFi. There only been one person who reviewed these, so not much to go on. Head-Fi can often have opposing opinions on gear too. Though I've agreed with ClieOS with his reviews on stuff in the past.
As you say they are cheap, so worth a try. But fit is critical for a IEM.

yep, seems to be an issue, but Clieos does say that the clip on the set will sort that out. I agree though - this would not be a set for running or the gym - there are some microphonics too.

Yeah I use them for computer work , amazing sound off them but not the most comfy I've ever had..... xD

I picked up a set of the MH1c. For the money they were very good. I couldn't disagree with anything in that review. They are better than all my cheap earphones. But not better than my more expensive MX760's. But still very impressive for the price. I had trouble with them staying in though. Isolation was v.good. Remote didn't really work for my ICS G300. Its in an unusable. location though. Still for under €20 theres nothing to touch them. Assuming you can keep them in!

just got them this morning. very impressed so far. seem to work fit-wise for me with the big tips and well inserted into my ears. isolation is only medium I would say. very impressive separation and as noted by others - v.good warmish all-rounder type sound. bass on the low side but that's ok. bargain for the price. may well pick up a second pair as such good value. don't like the cable at all though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

Odd I got great isolation with mine. Guess it all comes down to fit and seal. I think I'm on the medium tips.

I can get decent isolation but not compared to some other iems. the sound quality really is very good though - the burn-in effect does really seem to be real in this case. top quality.

these are still getting better. bought a second pair. total bargain for 20 euro. won't really work for sports though due to microphonics due to cable.

I'd also like to know that, Also has anyone an opinion on which are Better?

The Sony Smart Headset MH-1C (above)

    Or these

JVC HAFX1X Xtreme Xplosives (Roughly the same price)

Both have great reviews, and i am leaning towards the JVC's at the moment, But could easily sway the other way.

I think i may be getting the JVC ones mixed up. - Actually, I am.

Still roughly the same price, but the ones i meant to link to are these:

JVC HA-FX101 as opposed to the HA-FX1X.

definitely the mh1c have better sound quality.
however they won't work well if you're intending to use them for running / gym as the cable microphonics (the sound that you can hear when the cables mover or are touched) are very bad.
also, some people are having trouble with ear fit but I find it ok. great sound though - go for them I say. many on head-fi saying that they're comparable to earphones up to and above 150 usd.

Any of you guys tried the Sony earphones with their EPEX10A eartips, aka Hybrids?

I had a set of Meelec M6 that were great for staying in the ear. SQ was only ok bit too much bass. I cna only use the mh1c at the desk. Even walking I couldn't keep them in my ear.

They had a clearance sale of the HiFiMAN RE-0 In-ear Earphones $49.00 was toying with the idea of getting them before they sold out.

Would they make much difference? They look very similar to the ones the MH1C came with. They don't have the colour centre bit.

they are different. the tips for the mh1c were specially developed (see head-fi interview with developer).

    http://www.head-fi.org/t/634193/sony-mh1-r-d-story-and-discussion

    (somewhere in there...)

the normal sony hybrids are not as rigid.

some report good success with bi-flange tips. I tried vsonic bi-flanges which worked well but went back to the stock tips.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

All my other tips from Senns, Denon and Meelec don't fit the mh1c its tube is a lot wider than those other one. So I can't try them.

Softer ones might work. I just think the whole remote/flat cable is just too heavy and pulls them out.

if you use the shirt clip then it helps definitely. personally don't get an issue with them falling out...

Vsonic gr06 has an enjoyable sound - just bought them recently -

is the guy to buy from. price includes delivery. delivery in one week. great for sports. well reviewed everywhere.

good bass and all-around sound but not as detailed as sony mh1c.

gro4 flagship also on sale from this guy. higher in the line from vsonic (gr01>gro7>gro4>gro6>gro2) but not as popular for some reason. cheaper though.

I also had the soundmagic E30 until I lost them recently.

    http://www.zococity.es/product/287/0/0/1/2/Soundmagic-E30-Black.htm

+ postage of 7 euro I think. prob take a week to get.

more balanced sound that gr06 and very comfortable to wear. probably prefer the gr06 sound though. still a good option....

re-zero also available for 59 us dollars here

    http://www.head-direct.com/Products/?act=detail&id=89

normally 99. shipping extra. bassier version of re-0. never had them myself but v. well rated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

RE-ZERO earphones are balanced design earphones. If you need to use RE-ZERO earphones on regular earphone socket, you have to use the balance 4-pin TRRS plug to regular earphone TRS plug adaptor (in the packing box). If you directly plug TRRS balaced plug to regular earphone jack, RE-ZERO will only have sound in one channel.

    meh, I'll pass

Not sure how much interest there is in this but it might be for some. Amazon.co.uk are doing a promotion on certain sennheiser headphones where you get a £20 credit for themselves after purchase. They are the more expensive models and there are only a few that are good value; the ie80 (£213) and the hd598 (£140). Check camelcamelcamel just to be sure though.

List of headphones and terms and conditions here.

And another 5% off if you like on facebook. Great deal. People have preferred these to W4s...

Fedex priority too which is a seriously quick way to get them. 3-4 days.

I picked up a pair of headphones in txmax for €25 called urban beats. Not a bad pair, they come with a build in mic. I got them in black and red. The sound quality is not bad. I also say some skullcandy hearphones for bout €20.

I just posted this in BA, and thought about it afterwards, i should have posted here first.

    Are these any good?

    http://www.xears.com/produkte/supreme-reference-xsr330pro

    Use the Code: HIGHEND4ME

To get them reduced down to €30 - Shipping stays at €8 (Which isn't bad).

That code also reduces THESE to €30 - I jus tried the code, and it worked.

the sony earphones as recommended by head-fi still available for 1/2 nothing. really amazing sound quality (particularly separation and clarity) for the price. mid to high bass level. I bought a second pair as reserve. sound quality on these rated as good as mid to high level shure and westone iems.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Headset-SmartKey-Control-XPERIA/dp/B008OG16EQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357570136&sr=8-1

(note - great for general purpose listening. don't be put off that they are originally designed for smartphones - work fine with mp3 players. may not function as a smartphone control - sort of phone dependent - google your phone with earphones. also, not good for use as sports headphones due to microphonics (i.e. sound caused by cable moving around)).

SERIOUSLY worth a shot at this price. you won't be disappointed.

    Got these with my XS.

Great for a phone inc headset. Ok in general. Sound is pretty nice, I prefer my old CX300IIs, but the finish on the buds is slippy which is a PITA. Still use them daily though :)
