Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is the only time of the year where I have any optimism towards the coming fantasy season.... By October, I'm usually out of it.

So for the next few weeks at least, BRING IT!

    Haha. I`m exactly the same.

Every year I go into it with great hopes only for them to be snuffed out by Christmas.

It`s exactly like being a Liverpool fan actually. :(

. It would be lunacy to have the site only running the day before the season starts!

I was only messing. I would prefer if they done the site properly then launched it so we don't have the troubles of last season!

Yeah, I actually think my FPL fortunes are very closely tied to the fortunes of LFC. If I'm disillusioned with us, I don't give a rats how Bale, Cisse and Grant Holt are doing :pac:

This is off Fantasy premier league twitter
Fantasy Premier League will be divided into four quarters with a VIP trip to watch your team on offer for each of the four winners.

I like that idea tbh .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 460 ✭✭Ape X

^So a change to the prize structure?

I've heard there'll be a rule change as well. Any guesses? I'm hoping it's not rolling substitutions like the FIFA/UEFA games.

This was on their twitter account...assume it kicks off on Saturday so.

Was hoping for it a little sooner, but guess I can wait till then. Still gives us 4 weeks to tinker with our teams!

    Official FPL announcements are released via the offical PL account, @premierleague. Their last tweet was;
Details of the overall winner's prize will be revealed tomorrow along with news of a brand new in-game feature. #fpl

Game not open yet but link bit.ly/FPL-Players to price list of all players!

    Let the games begin....

They'd want to get better prizes this year. A VIP ticket to a match is **** for the amount of effort that goes into the thing over the course of a season.

Think it's down to it different rules in different countries re tax on prizes, gambling laws etc etc. But I agree. Especially considering how much money the site must be making in advertising!

Just a heads up. There'll be a Classic league and H2H league, as well as a private one by means of PM'ing me and I'll reply with the code. Lot of randoms, lurkers, non-boardsies, whatever you want to call them usually join going by past years so hopefully we can cut down on that, at least for one Classic and H2H league.

I'm not sure what I think of the players/prices list. I was hoping there would be a few un-expected bargains of some sort but it all seems too correct for my liking. i.e..... Everyone seems to be priced properly which ruins the fun of it a little bit :( I'm sure bargains will pop up as soon as the season kicks off though.

As for the in-game feature..... nothing great at all. But that's a good thing because dramtic changes like rolling in subs like the Euro game could ruin the FPL game.

More ‪#FPL‬ news: a new in-game feature will allow you to post your confirmed team to Facebook and invite friends to ‘Rate My Team’.

Who is the 1 player that represents the best value for you?

Djibril Cisse could do well if he doesnt get too many red cards/broken legs.

Post my finalized team to facebook for my friends to see???

    The fcuk i will!

So Hazard, and more interestingly, Siggurdsson opened their accounts for their respective clubs last night.

Siggursson at 9m was a complete turnoff for me, and even more so when I saw that the top midfielder is only 10m.

But...he could be a phenom at Spurs with the likes of Bale, Ade, VDV, Modric and Lennon around him.

No serious player will use that feature truthfully.. plenty dummy teams will be seen though!

I don't need facebook to tell me one of my mates teams anyway. It will feature De Gea, Rooney (C), a 3rd United player, John Terry, Richard Dunne, no Liverpool players and no City players. It's the same every season!

Yeah, I have won my hometown league every year since I joined it. i don't want them just copying my team. The funny thing is that they'd be too lazy to check my team in the FPL website but would probably do something if it was on facebook.

A tool for the masses, not for the better players.

I just don't think I can spend 9 mil on Siggy. Like would he really be a better option than Bale or VDV? He scored yesterday but it seems to risky. but I said that last season. I suppose we will see how the rest of pre season goes

  • Registered Users Posts: 833 ✭✭✭omniscient_toad

That Spurs midfield looks to be a case of wait and see, Modric could be gone by the time the season starts and it remains to be seen how VdV and Siggy slot in with both tending to get their goals from an attacking midfield position close behind the striker, Bale was playing through the center as well at times.

Transfer shenanigans notwithstanding I think I might go for a similarly priced 8/9 mill option from another team leaving me an easy swap to bring in whoever looks the most threatening from the Spurs bunch. With a lot of attacking, potentially points scoring players, a new manager, and transfer ins and outs it's a bit of a dice roll at the moment.

*You have £100.0m to spend on a squad of 15 players, with no more than 3 players from any single team.

It'll be interesting to see what Rodgers does with Liverpool but it may take time for them to adapt to his philosophy.

Ah hello, we're back up and running.

On first glance, it does look quite tricky.
A player that caught my eye is Caulker at Spurs at 5m..could be a bargain....he's better than Kaboul but maybe AVB wont agree with me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭FatRat

    Things I've noted:

Best strikers are much higher value than the best midfielders, while good strikers are the same value as the best midfielders. Therefore midfielders, for once, seem to be as valuable as strikers. But you can have 5 mids..... only 3 strikers to go around.

As for defenders, they seem even in value with the rest it's just there are absolutely 0 bargains. Anyone on any team that had a reasonably good defence last season is now 5.5-7 million. (Swansea and partly Newcastle the exceptions) I, for one, am counting on Reading being the new Swansea. I can't count on Swansea maintaining their defensive form now with Rodgers and Caulker gone. Same goes for Newcastle, I'm always iffy about their defence. Hopefully we'll see another Swansea in the 3 promoted teams, we'll need one.

Another thing on the mids is that there is so much potential value in the 6 million price range. I mean, a serious amount of value. Most notable are Nolan and Llalanna . Sess is also still classed a midfielder and can't be overlooked at 8 million.

I've a front three of RVP, Rooney and Ageuro with Kagawa in midfield and Kompany at the back and Vorm in goal. Rest of my team is cat.
