Is there extra value given for running the hills? My legs are telling me today there should be a x1.5 factor for vertical kms :)

I have to say fantastic work in putting this together MCOS, I'm a Google Docs convert now!

Never been as excited to be back in the saddle. And i aint talking about picking your one up in the niteclub after the five to two rush. :D Cycling freely again. Watch that core!

Hip flared after my first outdoor cycle in 2 weeks yesterday. Very frustrating. If this keeps up i may be revising my Frankfurt goal time

Whos been messing with the spreadsheet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

Me and apologies if I have upset anyone's data :o I've put in a column for the overall rank of the challenge that I will update once a week as late in the week that I can. The status of that will then remain for the next week so you can actually see how you are moving on the challenge versus where you were on last calculation. Fazz is almost 50% to the first green and odds on to hit it first too so once the targets come in the overall SBR points start to become secondary for calculation. Therefore no need for the second tab. I will sort the table regularly by SBR points anyway and others are sorting it by other columns for whatever reason that I'm ok with. I've seen it sorted by turbo kms, name, points, run kms, bike kms, swim kms, treadmill kms so far... so there are plenty on the challenge who know how to sort the table!

So this pins the challenge to a weekly update and maybe a bit of a weekly chat about it in the thread.

If you are sorting the table for some reason, please resort back to SBR points as status quo, thanks.

Its the unique way the challenge is calculated that made this necessary. You may have seen me play with different options such as logging how many of each green and gold target you hit. I was searching for a way to take those into account first. I toyed with variations and without adding another metric or more columns to the spreadsheet I decided the simplest way was to have one sheet and sort the overall rank manually at the end of each week. If I can't I'll delegate that responsibility to anyone willing to do so :D

So, I'll rank the challenge either on a Sunday night or Monday morning.

BTW, the font in the cell will change to green once you input a figure that corresponds with a target. So it will be obvious without needing more columns to see who has hit what targets.

Bear with me folks. I'm open to clever ideas by the way...

Nice work on the SBR challenge as usual sir.

This was a rest week for me and the only real target for the week was to complete a 20min TT on the turbo- ticked.
Unfortunately, I have now picked up the flu/chest infection that Mrs Mac and the wee macs have had for the past week. So looking like another low milage week for me. Ah well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

End of week 4 rank now up. This is how it will stand for the week so please don't edit that column. If your last update for week 4 was not included PM me and I'll adjust tomorrow.

Overall it is proving to be a tight one this year and Its fantastic to see so many acticely participating so far. I have to hand it to the ladies, they are really putting the cat amongst the pigoens. Great stuff!

45% of the swim green - your truly
45% of the cycle green - Fazz, who also has 42% of the swim green
39% of the run green  - RC I'm disappointed I missed the hot black number you were wearing last night :pac: all these miles gotta have you fit lookin' ;)

Who's gonna get the first green mark?!

Everyone please put your hands together for D'pop who has paved a venture to a Tri debut at Valentia Island on 19th May. Lets see if he can do better than TFBubendorfer's one hit wonder :D

Fair play to him - straight into the deep end with the big boys in the national championship race

You're just going to have to throw that party you promised for Joey Hannon/Limerick Marathon. I don't take the frock out for just any oul party you know!

Fair play to you Mike, solid work.
I had a low bike week this week.. I will not change plan and go SBR points hunting ha :D , even if my running is lower than you guys :o:o
It really is a great tracker and fun way to compare etc.

I need to update my hours but that's easy at any time.

The real interesting part will be seeing who transfers training points in races.

Thoughts of an additional column :D now that could get very confusing indeed.

Just updated for week - hope that’s ok?
Another good week. Goal for week was to get an additional cycle in....went outta my way to get 20 miles in Tues and then this morning had a big decision to make. Club cycle or Australian Open tennis final. All round the tennis won with an epic game. Managed to get out later for short but extremely tough 16miles and was well tested with hill repeats – quality over quantity!
Did not miss any planned sessions this week. 5 Runs, 2 Turbo, 2 cycles, 3 swims, yoga and combat class.
Goal for this week is yet again - two cycles.

Are back-dated kms allowed? I haven't added anything since the 8th of Jan (I haven't done much training either)

Cheers shotgunmcos. Thanks for all your work with SBR challenge and also the encouragement. I currently aim for three intense workouts each week. Two run sessions and one turbo. Otherwise I am just ticking away at an easy level. The combat class – well ... my teenage son drags me off to this. Am glad he does though, have been doing it for a few years now and the benefits for core are huge. My running form has become more stable as a result plus I can now throw a mean punch. From experience, this may come in handy for tri swimming;)

First swim of the year finally up on the board, first race last week and first duathlon tomorrow. Starting to feel like the season has started for me now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭mfdc

Finally got around to updating after a couple of weeks, christ you folks are machines! I've stepped up my running mileage in training for Connemara (stepped up for me anyway) and as a result have been too fecked to bother with much cycling at all. That excuse kind of crumbles in the face of all ye logging tons of time on the bike aswell as running though, guess I just need to suck it up.

How come my current bike score (with a paltry 21k biked), is 42, yet people who have yet to get their togs wet (because there are 7 of them), score 39 for their "swim"?

I'm not taking this too seriously, at all at all. But heads should roll.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Because no one from position 39 down in the swim has logged anything so they're all on 39 as there's no one to push them further down, where as 39 - 43 in the bike is logged so you'll be pushed down by those who have logged more kms than you.

Ah yeah I understand that, my point is that the big gang of them who have made a sekrit pact together to not swim are being rewarded with a lower overall score (x+y+39), whereas my fully embracing all disciplines is penalized purely because biking is more popular than swimming.

It's good to see someone of your high-flyin' rank understand my point, and like you said, it is indeed a trafesty.

Hmm, lateral thinking, I like your style. I think the idea behind MCOS's tables is that complaints get rewarded, but your way is worth a shot.

    .

No they have not been rewarded with the lower overall score. They collectively have the lowest score for the swim column. The challenge is open to adventure racers, duathletes and those who just do one or the other. I'll guarantee that anyone with a blank on any column at the end of the year will not win the challenge. They may fly high enough if they top the bike and run with 2 golds, but everyone with 3 greens will rank higher regadrless of how many or few SBR points they have.

The fact is, the challenge favoures those who SB and R!

In the first 2 installment of the SBR challeneg we had runaway leaders in each discipline but none of them challeneged at the business end.

So best strategy. Get the 3 greens first and push on from there ;)

Also DeePop, nobody with a 39 swim rank is currently higher than you in rank or lower than you in SBR points... take a chill pill man!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,608 ✭✭✭donothoponpop

Ah I was only messing- I think the SBR challenge is great altogether, and a really good motivator. I don't really believe someone with 21k on the bike deserves to be much higher than he is;)

Position tab will be less and less relevant folks but if you want it brought back in the meantime I will organise?

For now ranking done up for week 5 and your movement in the challenge over the week marked in too.

Top SBR hoochies DoryDory and RC walking or ahem running away with the run 1 and 2. Is this just spring marathon fever or will they go the distance?

Fazz pushing me hard on the swim and even if I or another pip it to the first green he will top the challenge with a second green soon after!

The AR lads are making moves. GoHome vs Nerraw battle will be interesting

5 ladies ahead of DeePop :D

    57% to swim green
    50% to bike green
    41% to run green

5 weeks down, 73 training sessions put down by Shell to Run

Well done all round, race season is approaching fast folks. Happy training :)

Had such a laugh when I read this! Made a hasty run to training diary to make sure and yes 73 is the magic number. Can’t believe it as never counted training this way!! Thanks shotgunmcos for reality check though.
Another great week training. 90% of sessions are at easy pace. Getting weight down and building good aerobic bace for season ahead. This way I stay injury free and later in the season I will convert some of quantity for quality. 5 runs (3 easy, 1 interval session, 1 long run – 9miles), 2 turbo, 2 cycles, 3 swims (1 coached session), 2 classes – yoga and aerobics. First brick session of the year 40m cycle followed by 5 mile run – all easy comfortable pace. Record this week as I swam 1,850m in pool – longest I ever swam in one session. Three years ago I could not swim a stroke and this week the SBR coaxed me into completing 4k in 3 swims - cheers again shotgunmcos.
Plan this week is to maintain swims and easy running week. Race at the weekend so time to see if all this training is making any difference.

Bangkok Marathon done in a time of 3.15. Disappointed with the result, and to make matters worse the 42+km was only good enough to move me into second place in the run standings. And that will probably only last till the next time RacoonQueen decides to head out the door.

    Folks

The challenge is now ranked up to week 6.

    68% to swim green
    65% to bike green
    44% to run green

Dory Dory is the lead SBR hoochie now unless RacoonQueen is sitting on a chunky update :) Shell to run is due her weekly update too which could change things.

Lots of bike miles being put down last week meaning spring must be here?!

Well done to Zico on the Bankok Marathon. Hey its not the result you wanted but you are out there exploring so to knock out a decent marathon off a few weeks traning and in that heat is not to be sniffed at. Fair play!

Bonus points for anyone who can predict the date the first green will land :D

@Izoard I agree, the ladies are best thing this challenge has seen!
