Sheridan has looked decent since he's made the step up.
He has but in fairness Williams makes anyone else look good ;)

Luke Fitzgerald is out for the rest of the season, did his ACL in and needs surgery. With his injury record it would be a massive gamble to give him a contract

    Except for the out-half.

It'd hardly be a 'massive gamble' for Leinster. I'd be very disappointed if they didn't stick with Fitz.

How is it not a gamble? The guys a train wreck, you couldn't in good faith give him anything but a pay-for-play deal. It's harsh but rugby is a business now, no room for sentimentality in a decision like this....

They already took a gamble on him and one level it didn't pay off. 5 Leinster starts, 1 WH cap and 3 international caps as a replacement.

I expect Leinster to make an offer but I hope Leinster aren't naive enough to rely on him being fit.

But a pay for play deal isn't a gamble. I agree, no room for sentimentality in pro sports, but he's certainly got a lot to give.

Should the medical team see him fit to play after the injury, it's not a gamble.

Should, for example, POC, Jones or Ferris be thrown on the scrapheap in that case?

Indications are that ferris won't get a contract to his liking and will be forced to go elsewhere....

Pay as you play is bound to be tough on a professional player. The guy has bills to play I'm sure, it seems unlikely he'd be able to go for a pay as you play deal?

Very few other options open to the province in this scenario... Flanery was offered a similar deal before he decided to retire.

Flannery at the end of his career though I guess, and already made his money? Different situation to Fitz surely?

Flannery has plenty business interests to keep him busy, I'm not surprised he declined a pay as you play if he was offered one.

I don't know if a pay for play offer would be good for a new player coming in, it would be more suited to an existing player that knew the setup inside and out already. You really have to feel for players though, injury can ravage a career, the likes of Luke Fitz and Ferris haven't gotten that many central contracts but have been very unfortunate with injuries.

There may be insurance issues too. The players I presume are insured against injury for future career earnings. V sad for him to have such bad luck.

The situation is immaterial really. Only consideration here is that the province can't have any faith in Fitz's ability to recover and perform consistently. Like I said, its a sh1tty situation but hard to see much else being put on the table at his next contract negotiation....

POC expected to feature against Connacht. Keith Earls is a major doubt for the QF, he will see a specialist next week.

In fairness, the only place I've seen any mention of this 'rumour' of him going to Munster is on boards.ie. It was never remotely plausible.

as far as I can tell it was started by a munster supporter trolling on leinsterfans and it spread to here

Gutted to read this -Stringer staying at Bath til the end of the season http://www.bathrugby.com/news/team-news/bath-rugby-extend-stringer%E2%80%99s-stay

Cathal Sheridan, your time is now!

Best of luck to Stringer. Sheridan will replace him in the HEC squad now.

If we've seen the last of Peter Stringer in a red jersey then I am very upset. He's as big a Munster legend as POC, Quinlan, Hayes or ROG. He deserves a proper Munster sendoff in Limerick. However it very much looks like we've seen the last of Strings. *sob*

Hopefully he'll earn long term deal with Bath, his injury record is clean (open to correction!) so he could probably play another season or two if he wanted.

To qualify for the tax break he needs to finish his career playing in Ireland - I would imagine the loan thing is a way around it (he's still employed by Munster) but it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Bit of a strange interview here with Penney
    http://thescore.thejournal.ie/munster-heineken-cup-oconnell-zebo-fitness-837420-Mar2013/

“He’s making progress,” Penney said as the focus turned to the team’s 7 April Heineken Cup clash with Harlequins. The coach added:
There’s a big, grey area coming up between the week before the quarter-final and the week after. We’ve got some specialist visits to have and all sorts. We’re optimistic but not overly optimistic.
“We’ll just see. It’s highly unlikely that he’ll be available for that game.”

They're optimistic but it's highly unlikely he'll be available?!

    I read it as:
"Dear Munster fans, he's back, woohoo"
    and
"Dear Quins, not a hope he'll play, don't plan for us having him available"

I believe the way the loan works is that he can be called back whenever they want him and while he's with Bath both clubs pay his wages between them, so as he'll still be getting something from Munster the Irish tax still counts, I assume his past few salaries wouldn't be in his top 10 for yearly salaries so he'll be fine anyway.

What's this about Danny Barnes? See the last two paragraphs. I never heard a peep about this but maybe the case was in camera?

(maybe this isn't the place for speculation...)
