Thanks very much. The Samsung keyboard is a nightmare.

    How safe are non-standard keyboards?

If you're referring to the link I put up, that's the stock ICS keyboard so it should be good enough, a few days on and I find it is perfect for me.

    Hope it helps :)

Will prob be back here too.
After being unceremoniously stripped in a recent OTA update, Samsung has told TechRadar that the Galaxy S III's universal search function will return -- at least in the UK. A spokesperson for Samsung said that the "inadvertent removal" will be remedied in the "correct software upgrade" over the next few days. It sends a mixed message on why the feature was removed in the first place -- and makes us wonder whether the search box will ever return to the Sprint iteration any time soon. Still, it's good news for anyone that's having trouble keeping tabs on all those Angry Birds iterations. Gotta finish 'em all.

Yes..agree with the comments about the Samsung's keyboard. I have the tablet and it's fine but on the s3 it's a pain in the arse.

Brilliant phone but the keyboard on the HTC sensation was much better.

...and no I wouldn't swap back for the HTC..way too buggy

Does anyone know if the SGS3 will be available in Ireland in different colours? Just saw this unboxing of a red one and it looks deadly I think!

Samsung just undone the last update, just updated and local search returns :-)

Red is exclusive to one carrier in the US.

I did not like the stock ICS keyboard either but the swiftkey 3 app is amazing. It spells the words while you type and also auto corrects spelling pretty much perfectly. Have a look at the demo on youtube.

+1 on Swiftkey, worth the few bob :) Been using it for a long while now and have tried numerous keyboards in between including swype and touchpal etc... nothing was as good imo

Pity! Thanks! Not too gone on the white of blue colours tbh! Might wait for a bit longer to see if any operator gets a decent colour exclusive! Wishful thinking on my behalf I suppose!

Got my very first update just now (ever) On Three here if anyone's interested. Was hoping to get slide brightness but I don't think it came in this one. On version 4.0.4. Is slide brightness on at default or off?

    Thanks.
I think I'll revert to the Samsung keyboard for my more important passwords (banking, etc.).

Had the same problem with the twitter and facebook app after installing the update. Just deleted and re-installed. Working better now as I was having problems with the pics syncing to the contacts before update. All good now. :D

It caused problems with Facebook and witter future me so I just updated them. I haven't had the problem with the rather useful swipe type.

I'm always very anxious if system updates. I kinda updated the android version on many old HTC sensation when it was due. Caused all sorts of nuisance.

    Grrrrr

Have taken a punt on this car holder.

    €4.82! Worth a shot.

Don't get it if you're in a rush though. Free shipping is great but it can take up to a month with dealextreme.

I have noticed since the update yesterday when i get a txt msg i can only access it from the notification bar rather than the app on the home screen, just does not respond, maybe a reboot is required.

The 3 update is firmware version XXALF6. It doesn't effect the network lock, seems to have fixed the home screen redraw delay!

Well lads, was with a friend last night who has an S3 aswell and he was showing me how to download paid apps for free and how to run them without having got them via the market. I was just wondering do many of ye do this? and would this change in setting void my contract or anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭elderlemon

Its called piracy and I doubt you'll get much help from anyone here. The apps are not expensive - why not just pay for them?

If you read my post i clearly stated he just showed me, i posted here then to get feedback on this, while i appreciate your feedback theres really no need for such a crappy response. I have paid for every app on my phone, i didn't even know until last night that you could do it any other way!

Well apart from being just wrong (it's not like the apps cost the earth or anything) if the apps are not coming from the android market but some other back ally one then I would be very carful. That is how many people got infected phones... Just something to consider.

If you think there is a bit of lag try Settings-> developer options-> and Window animation scale and Transition Animation scale -> change both of those to 0.5x (or 0 for both, for instant reactions). The phone now runs like the beast it was born to be.

I think it makes a huge difference

    Which ROM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭elderlemon

It was a "special offer" from mymemory a couple of months back. Its a "mymemory" branded card so don't know who really makes it. No complaints about it -find it very fast in my S3.

All of a sudden my battery has gone to sh1t I have no idea why, yesterday it was on 15% before bed where just 2 weeks ago it would be on 60%.

This morning already its on 88% after only 1.5hours off charge! WTF. I rebooted it last night to see if there was some app draining it (installed 3 days ago so possible)

EDIT only newish app is Songpop, going to uninstall and see if that sorts

14 quid for 32GB class 10 is excellent value! I just paid EUR 25 for similar Samsung microsd from amazon.
    (got it at 20 GBP)

I got mine form Amazon as well, it seems to be cheaper now
