Anyone know if the One X's you get from Vodaphone are sim free? I'm getting one in the post very soon. If not, where's the cheapest place to get it unlocked? I saw some imei services on xda for £2, but I can't see them anymore

U can still get that service on Ebay: Linky

Ok, I have received my car cradle and desktop dock and I am very happy!
The dock on my desk uses mains and USB together and looks great using the "Rotation Locker" app! :)

Could you link to the ones you bought please?

What a phone... Makes my Desire HD seem unbelievably dated. The display just brings a smile to my face. Great purchase.

Thanks guys, that's great. Should be here tomorrow so I'll try it with my 3 micro sim. How bad is the vodaphone branding? They used to absolutely cover everything on the phone in the past :(

My Desire HD that I'm moving from was unbranded from Vodafone if that's any help!

I bought one of these sim free last week. Great phone.
The only problem is I don't know what is the best way of taking my apps, contacts, sms, photos, vids etc etc to it.
My old phone was a desire S and it had big sim card and an external sd card.
The One X has a micro sim and internal sd card.
So I can't swap either sim or sd card into One X.

Anyone know what is the best way of going about this?

My One S prompted me to transfer everything via bluetooth from my old phone when I first turned it on.Worked like a charm.

    Hi,

    This is what I did:

Apps, In Play store go to Menu=> My Apps and download any apps you need. You can also use something like mybackuppro and export the backup to your PC and then copy across to your new phone and restore but I find the play store method works best.

Contacts: Store all your contacts with your Google account and then all your contacts will be downloaded when you sign in to Google.

SMS: I didn't bother transferring these across but you could use the mybackup method mentioned above.

Photos/Videos: you could use drop box for this. Upload to drop box on your old phone and download to the new phone. You could also use Google plus to upload photos to,

Music: I used Google music and just selected "make music available offline" which downloads the music to the phone so you don't get data charges.

    Hope this helps.

Just to point a benefit of HTC that people here might not be aware of. They offer a 2 year manufacturers warranty whereas most phone companies only offer 1. I know EU law says that t it should be 2, but that only applies to the retailer, in this case the networks, and it can often be difficult to get them to act quickly after a year.
My girlfriend's HTC Desire stopped working out of the blue last week and I contacted them looking to know if the warranty was still in date. (I bought it over a year ago on adverts) It still has 5 months left on it despite it being an old phone at this stage and they arranged for UPS to pick it up the next day, all free of charge. Just good to have that extra peace of mind, I didn't even need to include the receipt.

    Thanks Adrian,

    I'll give that a go.
I did already download MyBackup pro on both phones, made a back up on the Desire S, copied the back up to my pc and then copied it accross to the One X but when it came to the restore I failed.
I tried lots of things but just couldn't get it to restore.
    Anyone experienced this?

Is anyone having issues with the strength of their wifi signal?

I'm constantly getting dropped connections when I go upstairs. Wifi analyser shows a very weak signal that disappears completely before returning.

When I'm standing beside the wireless router I get a full signal but it drops to 50 db when I'm less than 10 feet away. Similarly I lose bluetooth connection with my car kit and apparently wifi and bluetooth use the same chip. I've tried this on an SGS 1 and SGS2 and they both show fairly strong signals.

Seems like a number of One X users on XDA are reporting the same thing. I spoke to HTC support and a factory reset was suggested which would involve losing all my data, failing that it will have to be sent back to them. Anyone here experiencing wifi or bluetooth issues?

Yea, Wifi isn't the best on the old One X to be honest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 882 ✭✭✭cdb

From XDA it seems to only affect certain handsets which would indicate a hardware issue as opposed to one that can be resolved with a software update. If the problem is with the wifi radio or the connections the phone is going to have to be replaced.

How are people who have the One X finding the size? I have a Desire at the moment and was thinking of getting the X, but I went into the shop and held my phone beside it and holy crap it's huge.

Does it feel weird in your pocket? Even the desire can be a bit awkward at times in loose jeans.

And is it worth the upgrade? The only real problem I have with the desire is the lack of space for apps, even with a2sd its clogged all the time.

    Anyone have the One V?

    http://www.carphonewarehouse.ie/Product/strong-HTC-strong-One-V/238541/1_1?gclid=CInT-YbBmbACFcYe4Qodyy4KYA

Was recommended to me on another thread and it looks interesting.

Any thoughts, opinions, comments etc from those who have it?

    Thanks :)

There are now 84 pages and almost 1,250 posts in this thread, maybe it's time it was closed and we had a separate thread for each of the three different models - X, S and V?

Or maybe this thread should be renamed as the HTC ONE X and S models?

There's already a thread on the V but the generic HTC One thread (this thread) tends to get more posts and is therefore listed higher on the first page, people are naturally posting here but there's stuff about the three different models getting jumbled up and the thread is just too big at this stage.

The X and S share a lot of features but the V for example takes a standard SIMM and has a microSD slot which the X and S do not.

Is anyone having issues with the strength of their wifi signal?

I find it to be better than on any previous phone I have owned.

Yea, Wifi isn't the best on the old One X to be honest.
Was having the same problem, then went to wifi settings and ticked the best wifi option (consumes more power) job done!

Got HTC One X yesterday. Lovely phone. Havent a clue what extra features it has yet compared to a standard HTC Wildfire I was using besides the better processor, bigger HD screen and better camera so looking forward to getting to know it.

Hard to get a decent cover or screen protector for the thing anywhere up near grafton street dublin (suggestions on a postcard!). either places are sold out or they only have the plastic shell case which still leaves the camera bulge exposed.

    02s data packages are archaic.

    Have you ruled out eMobile?

Getting a decent case makes it easier to get a grip on. Pocket-wise, yes it does take up a lot of space, but personally at least, i like knowing where my phone actually is, rather than having to fumble for it.

The Desire might just be getting on a bit now.... nevermind space.

Well I never even looked at emobile to be honest. How's their data coverage do you know? Also for roaming, handy enough to pick up a decent network while abroad?

    Thanks.

Yep +1 for eMobile, so far so good. Make sure you have a look at the bargain alerts forum and their current deal unlimited everything for 35 a month

My HTC One X arrived in the post today at work. Dying to have a proper mess around with it later. Bought it second hand off adverts, was originally on Vodafone but takes a Three micro sim. Any particularly cool features/apps to look out for? I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 so it's not a huge leap, still a considerable one though. The coolest thing I've found so far is holding down the picture button to take loads of shots and then picking the best one, really cool.

Just got the One X tonight in the carphone warehouse on 3 PAYG and it's unbranded, haven't got another micro sim to check and see if it's unlocked but I would imagine it is. Coming from a Desire which I lost last weekend, it's feckin huge. Now the fun starts messing around with it. Whats the best security app for Android as I had nothing, not even a pin code on my Desire (stupid I know).

Have a look at the pattern unlock, untick show pattern, at least that's what i've done.

I got a (white) one X on eMobile a few weeks back. I've been happy enough with data coverage, although i've not really left Dublin since.
