No exceptional or prolonged cold or wintry conditions on the horizon between now and the end of the first week of Dec or so. Second week of December still showing signs of turning much colder.

An interesting 6z GFS this morning, quite a severe storm for the north and west

    gfs-2011112806-0-126_jix6.png

Followed quickly by a cold north westerly which would have a good chance of some brief low level snow in the north

    gfs-2011112806-1-180_jdz5.png

Toned down on the 12z with the storm further north and the northerly will inevitably become less potent as it gets closer

18Z GFS is just in love with those low pressure systems.

Can you explain that chart maquiladora?

Very high winds with driving torrential rain/sleet at low levels and whiteout blizzard conditions on higher ground.

This is the fantasy island thread though, so don't worry. ;)

It's the Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) and i have a thread on it the last 3 years.
Edit; I see you have visited already, Ok well for those who don't know then.

Conditions are very cold up there now and not good for any height rises to our north as we have a strong Polar Vortex that is racing furiously in it's preferred westerly path.

Does the red negative line represent a different run or Permutation ?

The red lines show the upper- and lowermost permutations, and the average lies somewhere in between.

Is that what the Con artiest Piers could be talking about when he says its gone negative ,

He is using technicalities as his basis if so and it brings all his work into doubt in my books if that is what he is at .

No, he said it went negative yesterday! That negative spike is not for another week or so, and is an outlier anyway so unlikely to materialise.

But who knows what this guy means!

Someone like Piers Corbyn is never wrong- if we do we get a blocked pattern in January, he'll claim he was right all along, just slightly out on the timing.
