A bit daft how they report the case numbers to be honest
This was a "missed" block from a hospital. Some of it is way back to March.

What a mess. Did this one hospital also fail to report on the causes of any deaths? How could that even happen?

A big number today then say because of that restrictions can’t be eased on May 18th

    Nonsense

How can they miss a hospital not reporting numbers for weeks? Surely someone sees that there are numbers missing. Very amateurish

Surely an investigation has to be launched into this hospital. Failure to report back as far as March? That's unacceptable.

So today's figure excluding that backlog is about 140, did I hear correct?
    Under 200 anyway.

A lot of people will not dig down and just see the 426 headline figure.

I think that's the point, keep up the fear.

    Yes, I've heard that.

But still though, you'd question a little the overall reliability of their data.

As one Deise to another can I say how I'm not angry, I'm disappointed.

The've already told us what happened and said it reflects nothing other than a failure in that hospital reporting cases. But obviously that isn't good enough for the tinfoil hat brigade is it?

Apparently they are about two weeks ahead of where their own modelling suggested (which is good news).

Lost in the overreaction to 426 cases being announced. "See, I just knew they would do this to me for spite..."

Some hospital is after making a balls. A massive balls.

Indeed, it wont do much to instill a lot of confidence in anyone who is nervous about going to a hospital for tests or procedures.

The models and graphs used to brief nphet are based on rolling 5 - 7 day averages and the dates tests occur and deaths occurred , not the day they are confirmed and notified to the media.

    Cool the bloody jets.

There could be a few ruffled feathers this evening. The media will smell blood over that letter from the HSE.

r0 is now estimated to be 0.4 to 0.6

We aren't doing enough testing to accurately establish what the R0 is.

Those figures can't be accurate with the level of testing that we are doing.

This letter thing was weeks ago, really no drama.

I posted the other day that on a radio interview a member of the hse stated that some repointing of cases were been reported by snail-mail.
Not a surprise to hear of unreported case's or slow reporting

Level of testing? We are testing a greater percentage of the population than almost every other country.

We have one of the highest testing percentages in the world.

Second highest in Europe I think behind Portugal.

WHO top brass have been basically useless from the off. Dr. Maria Kerkhove is the only one I'd have any faith in.

90% test turnaround in 3 days is the target.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,806 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

Best way to check the daily numbers is through the dashboard - increases there would support the lower number of 140.

I think that "delayed/missed" reporting highlights just how chaotic things were in the early days (and that is extensively evidenced in the early threads here). I would guess that in the hospital it was a case that everyone thought someone else was responsible. At the centre they were rushing to make sense of all the numbers they were getting. Repeatedly in the daily briefings it was clear there were gaps and inconsistencies in the ways figures were being reported.

I'm a lot happier now, but they were a bit like rabbits being caught in the headlights when this all kicked off
