    This is a spin-off from the thread regarding how much money you spend on your girlfriend. The OP gave the impression that if he had to spend more than €500 on his girlfriend annually then he would dump her and go back to using prostitutes in Thailand. Of course there were plenty of responses and one of the posters said this:
    There's a lot of people in here on their high horses with regards to prostitution.

    Now, this thread is here to get some kind of idea on how everyone here feels about prostitution. Have you every paid for sex? If not, would you ever consider doing it or are you completely against it? Any views at all regarding the subject are welcome.

    I have never personally paid for sex but I know people that have and, to some extent, I can see the why they do. You're on holiday and you have a few drinks on you and there's a gorgeous woman that will go home with you there and then - no effort required, just money.

    I can understand the appeal, but I would never compare my GF to a prostitute.

    Hmmm, I don't think the poll will give you a good idea.

    There are plenty of men (and women) who would never consider paying for sex, but that just means it's not for them. They may have absolutely nothing against prostitution.

    Never paid. In a hypothetical world, where hookers were hot and clean, then I'd have no problems paying for it! But that's never going to happen.

    Never have. Maybe never will, but went for the second option.

    I'd perhaps pay for a unique experience, maybe to try something unusual that you wouldn't get to try otherwise. Of course, the experience of paying for sex could fall into this "unusual" category anyway.

    I wouldn't pay for sex for a sexual fix, as a substitute for conventional means. I also would be concerned about STIs and the welfare of the women involved.

    I wouldnt myself but I can see why someone would, people do get lonely, men and women, so why not just pay to have someone give you the attention that you cant get elsewhere?

    Nah to me yeah there protitues, what ever you want to call it. I dont htink I could....
    Where forplay is inovolved with money it just it sounds wrong on many levels I mean useually in my own experences sex has come from passion or lust useually but there wouldnt be any of that with a prostitute so It would be pretty miningless to sleep with a prostitute well id find it difficult.

    Granted im shure they can act but it would be in the back of my mind your paying for this which is pointless well to me....

    As others havd said id be concerned about stis etc and just it don't seem all that worth it...

    besides if paying between 150 and 240 for an hour of a womans time serously theres other things i would like :D I cheacked the prices online its a bit mad... and LZ5by5 made a real good point...

    I haven't been blessed in that department and I still never would. :) Knowing the person doesn't have any personal interest in me would give me no satisfaction unfortunately.

    I guess in this age when adultfriendfinder and similar sites are around its easier for people to meet for no strings sex without paying for it, a mate of mine has absolutely zero confidence with women no matter how much we try to get him talking to them or vice versa, wouldnt surprise me if he's been to a hooker, he hasnt had sex with a girl (that we know of) in nearly 10 years, ouch :(

    Dont we all wind up paying for sex in one way or another? mental anguish, jealousy, broken hearts, arguments, commiting ourselves etc etc

    At least with a prostitute you cut through all the bs and get right to the point (bah dum tsh!)

    I don't like the idea of paying (personally) due to the fact that I can (when lucky) get my bit for free. Albeit calling a cab the next morning :rolleyes:

    I do know people who have used prostitutes. I was approached at a young age by prostitutes in a not so pleasing manner but that's not for discussion here

    If you want to use prostitutes by all means go ahead. It doesn't bother me in the slightest with some exceptions as to why the prostitute is in the particular profession.

    I read most of previous comments and have to say same bad (but truth):
    Irish (british) women are very laidback with sex and you realy don't have to pay for it. They open legs so easily.

    I have never paid but I was friendly with 2 working girls years back. I was probably the only person on the street who didnt know what they did for a living until I was invited to a party by them.

    Only recently, speaking to a friend of mine he dropped a clanger that he had worked as an escort for elderly and not so elderly women during his college years right here in Dublin.

    I dont think its hugely immoral either to work at it or patronise it but you probably would need a very strong personality to deal with it -if you were a sex worker. Not something i could have done.

    Yeah, like picking up some random person in a bar, which is something that thousands of people do every other weekend around the country, love and sex arent always connected

    Don't know if there have been polls in the past but to get a slightly clearer picture of the percentages on the issue, it might have been good if the word men had been added to the poll question. There are plenty of female readers of the GC which might result in slightly altered figures. (Of course, the ladies could still vote if the wording was changed if they felt so inclined).

    I went for the second option. Married about 15 years. I'd pay for for a woman for a threesome, or for another man for my wife, if she wife was up for either.
