Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Fairplay man. Just out of curiosity, how long were you waiting to hear back from PwC since the interview?

Hey thanks, its not accountancy so I think it works slightly different, but I heard the next evening by phone call from PwC. My interview luckily went quite well. You never can tell with these things. I just am a little unsure which one to go for at the moment as they both seem good. (I know , I shouldn't be complaining) Anyone have any insights or recommendations?

    Hey Guys,

Anyone know about rejection e-mails from Deloitte? Friend hasn't heard a peep from them and well I got a regional office spot so can't tell him what the deal is.

So if anyone could let us know that'd be great!

Welp! Had pwc interview this afternoon, I wasn't asked competency questions, we didn't discuss case study or commercial awareness..There wasn;t "why pwc" question?.The partner said at the beginning it would be an informal chat about my background, only discussed my CV right from LC to present and professional qualification I would be doing...Left me wondering how they assess...anybody know?

I wish you the best of luck.
I have my interview tomorrow for audit. How did your interview go? Any unexpected question regarding commercial awareness, business story or any technical accounting/auditing questions?

    Thank you, and you!
I'd go as far as to say it was an enjoyable experience. Everyone there is really nice, the interview was more a chat with a few questions thrown in. Mine lasted 1 hour and it felt like 20mins.
Usual questions like why accounting, challenges facing Deloitte, examples of leadership, time management, problem solving and teamwork. No business story.
The challenges facing Deloitte covered commercial awareness.
You have no need to worry :)

Ps I brought up a project I did on the differences between IFRS and US GAAP and they asked me for examples, that was the only technical part as well as what does an Auditor do.

I got a rejection email from PwC this morning. I interviewed with them for Assurance in Dublin last Wednesday. I'm not overly disappointed as I knew my interview didn't got that well

Anyone going into KPMG Audit in Dublin?

Interviewed last Wednesday, got an offer on Thursday evening & contract came yesterday. Pretty happy I must say!

Interviewed in the IFSC by Director first, then Manager, both in FS. So I'm assuming that's the route I'll be going.

Anyone in any way similar or waiting to hear back?

Same here, I interviewed on Thursday morning and got told after my second interview I was successful. I'm also assuming it's FS Audit (that's what most of the people at the presentation said as well).

Man stay optimistic. This interview thing is like a lottery. You just dont know what or who they would like. I had a couple of rejections last year and this year I got rejected by EY again even though I couldn't have done better in the interview. These things happen.

The vast majority are in the same boat as you, obviously there will be more posts on these threads by successful candidates but the fact that you're getting interviews should encourage you.

You're at the very beginning of your career and there will be loads of opportunities in industry/practice yet. It is disheartening though to receive a generic rejection email from the companies after the application process, preparation for interview etc. etc

WD to all the successful applicants btw

Anyone have any recommendations or preferences on Deloitte or PwC for consulting? Or are they both pretty much the same?

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 jango_fett

Still don't have a decision on my Deloitte application, just acknowledgement email of application received. They said they would get back next week. why the delay? anybody have an idea?

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 jango_fett

Very rare for someone to be called for interview at this stage, so why are they waiting until next week & haven't they sent the rejection?

I received an offer from BDO for Audit on Friday. If anyone is yet to have their interviews, feel free to PM me for assistance.

Also, has Grant Thornton responded to any one at all? Haven't heard a peep from them!

Has anyone here done an interview with Grant Thornton?

I have an interview with them tomorrow evening and was just hoping someone could give me any pointers on what the first interview is like, with regard to questioning, etc?

    Hey Guys,

I've got two offers for tax positions in EY and in PwC. I want to do both qualifications AITI and ACA and I'll have CAP1 exemptions which also gives me Part 1 exemptions. I know in PwC I'll have a four year contract in which I'll do a set of exams every year
    EG.
    Year 1 - Cap2,
    Year 2 - FAE,
    Year 3 - Part2
    Year 4 - Part3

Does anybody know how the 3 and a half year contract in EY or other firms is structured? I don't want to have to do 2 sets of exams in one year. I rang up EY recruitment and they told me by getting FAE I am exempt from Part 2 so I'd only have to do 3 sets of exams which I think is incorrect. Could anybody help me with this issue please?

I had interview for small audit firm, I'm hopeful that I've got the job. Just wondering about the wages. I no the average is around 21k but do you get any allowances or expenses for lunch or travel etc

Ya that is incorrect you still have to do your part 2 exams. I am with one of the companies you mentioned and in their tax department and I would highly recommend it! I would advise going the masters route especially if you can get the firms sponsorship. It would wrap both AITI and ACA exams into a neat 3 year bundle if you pass everything first time. You would be out of your contract 6 months earlier that the 3.5 year colleagues which is of great benefit when looking for a new job (so I am told).

Need any more questions answered, PM me!

I know this sounds pretty stupid, but how binding is the graduate contract. Accepted my offer for one big 4 job, but got an interview for a job in industry I didn't really expect.

Hey man, it's all up to what you wana do and where you wana take your career! I mean big 4 aint for everyone!

You would be better off training in a big four and then making the move into industry. If you train in industry you'll only have experience in what ever sector you are working in however, if you train with a big 4 you will be exposed to a lot more areas!

    Hope that helps!

If you find another position, then be straight with the Big 4 company. Ring up ASAP to let them know that you won't be taking the position. This way they can offer it to another graduate quickly. Remember that they're in recruitment mode right now, and it's easier for them to offer it now than start cold in a few months. They see a fair amount of this right now, so it won't be unexpected.
