Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

4 months and 3 weeks to go - that absolutely flew in

Did our paperwork in Limerick during the Christmas break so that's another bit done.

In September, what about you? I have no bridesmaid dresses either.

Our wedding is in mid April so gonna send the invites mid February i think. Can't believe how little time there is left but i think we've most things done.
My shoes are FABULOUS btw, a little big so going to send them back and get a smaller size. The quality is brilliant and the packaging and everything just makes them even better.

December 4th. I'm gonna start looking in March!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,657 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

We're getting married in August and Moposa wants us to send out our invites in late March. Does that seem terribly early to anyone else? We're in a bit of a transitional phase with our guest list because we emigrated recently, so we've met loads of great friends that we haven't decided whether or not to invite. I hadn't really planned on sending the invites before May.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

That definitely seems too early. It could be that it's adding the extra time so that people can make plans if they have to travel to where the wedding is taking place? But otherwise five months is crazy. Ignore it and just go with your original plan.

My invites are due to arrive this week, can't waaaaait to see them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭Milly33

Tis up to yerselfs really I would think.. We are march aswell and well I am all up for sending them out early..At least it gives people plenty of notice and what not.

  • Registered Users Posts: 56 ✭✭mslady

Think we're gonna send ours at the end of Jan for the end of April - the venue needs final numbers 2 weeks in advance so the RSVP date will be mid March so we have time to chase people if needed! One of my bridesmaids designed them for us, can't wait to get them printed and see them in real life!

Anybody else feeling like its really getting real now that Christmas is out of the way?!!

Hi to all my fellow 2015 brides!

My brain was going 90 last night thinking of all the things I need to do so yes it does seem really close now :S We were at a wedding last Friday too so that made it all a bit more "Oh CHR!ST" in fairness. So I wrote down everything that was keeping me awake last night (that I can remember at least) and I'm ticking some off now, some are just as simple as sending an email.

    It's scary though :S

Jinx I am with you, I could not sleep a wink last night thinking what if this happens or we need to be doing more. Was talking to my sister over the Christmas and she was very excited about things, I was just like yep yep tis all sorted but is it!! Ecckk..

Does anyone here based in Cork know of the best shops to try on a few gunas.. I went to the Moderne and while they were loverly staff the dresses were very boring.. I have had a look online but really need to try something one before buying

Amore Bridal in Youghal is great, the 2 girls there are really good and won't let you put bad dresses on you. Memories is meant to be good too.

I thought I'd be the same re the Moderne but then I luckily found my perfect dress there so it worked out for me.

Milly, try Rice N Roses in frankfield. I got my dress there and I couldn't recommend them more highly.

We have to give final numbers a month before the wedding so we're thinking of sending out our invites 3 months before the wedding, giving people a month to respond and then time for us to chase RSVPs. Good idea? Any un booked rooms from our allocation will also be released by the hotel a month before so it gives us the chance to tell people about accomm, alternatives and they can get booking...

Try memories on Patricks Quay - they have only one of each dress , but he's really good at what he does. That's where I got mine - the only shop I tried actually ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭Milly33

thanks for all the tips ladies, have them emailed to make dates and we shall work from there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Ordered our invitations last night - should be here next week, will get them sent relatively quickly then.

If I may pick your brains for a minute... I have no idea what the hell to do with my hair or what sort of headpiece to wear. I have short, poker straight and incredibly thick blonde hair that I treat like pure crap (wash around 10 times a week, swim a good bit etc), I have no intention of growing it out beyond possibly giving it 6-8 weeks of growth before May 23rd. I'm wearing an ivory tea-length 50s style dress - what in the blue hell do I wear in terms of fascinator/tiara/headband etc? I'm not wearing a veil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭Milly33

would you try one of the bird cage pieces sounds like it would suit the dress and your hair style.. The washing of the hair is a dose, 10 times a week seems like a lot but I can see why if you are swimming... If you wanted to get it a bit silkier you should try coconut oil. Just the reg type you get in the chemist or even the one you get for cooking.. Melt in the hands and rub through you hair. Just a small piece so it doesn't look greasy but youll know yourself. Works wonders

I sent save the date cards for my July wedding yesterday and already a 3 people have rsvp-ed on the website (when I only asked for June 30th RSVPs) and others took photos and posted them.

    Feels wonderful!

That thread on How to Annoy Your Wedding Guests depressed me :( so much negativity!

It's hard not to worry if everyone will have fun and aren't annoyed by your choices!

I know but there's nothing you can do, you just have go with what you want and know that the majority of guests aren't miserable bollixes (and possibly exaggerate their misanthropic demeanour on online message boards).

My OH has his heart (and mind) set on black tie and remaining light hearted after reading that thread was a challenge I can tell you!:o

When it comes to weddings, there will be an eternal battle between some guests who think the day is all about them, and the desires of the bride and groom. As long as you do your best to ensure that your guests are comfortable, suitably entertained, well fed and well watered, then you've done all you can. If your wedding involves travel or black tie or whatever else, then guests can always opt to not attend.

I do feel that absolute priority should be given to food and alcohol. Pay for the best and most that you can afford, before having things like sweet carts and photo booths. 95% of guests will have a great day as long as they have plenty of free alcohol (and I don't mean an open bar, but at least 1/2 bottle of wine at dinner, a drink for the toast and a drink when they arrive) and good, plentiful food (afternoon snacks and a nice dinner that doesn't start too late are key here).

But also bear in mind that there's a skewed sample in this forum. It seems to attract a lot of people who will complain about anything and everything! So what you read here is not reflective of your own friends and family who care about you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 536 ✭✭✭nosietoes

I completely agree with you Faith. And thank you, it's nice to hear such supportive advice.

And we definitley will be having loads of food, and because our wedding is at home, the booze is free (though we will only have wine/bubbles and beer).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,642 ✭✭✭✭fits

Totally agree with faith. Boards isn't a reflection of reality at all. I was questioning our whole destination wedding (in Ireland) thing, but the alternative - a local wedding- we just really did not want to do for what I think are very good reasons.

(black tie wouldn't bother me in the slightest either btw, I quite like it)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,642 ✭✭✭✭fits

I am having an awful time picking invitations. Just can't decide. Feels ridiculous to be stuck on something so trivial.

  • Registered Users Posts: 439 ✭✭CBFi

All good points. You cant please everyone. Like fits, I was questioning our location. We're getting married in our venue, so we picked the best venue we can afford, which, is 35 mins from Dublin (where we live and the largest proportion of our guests live) but far from where either of our families are from.

Haven't heard any complaints but thread made me paranoid. Food and drink - they wont be short of!

Maybe get your mum or OH to decide which of your choices to go with?

Personally I found the thread hilarious, the unbelievable/odd things that were requested on invitations, down to being told where not to buy dresses, but over all it has just proven the point that you will never ever please everyone. Some people from when they get invites to weddings and such events, have a bee in their bonnet and are determined not to enjoy(giving out about everything while doing so!) So please don't anyone worry about what was in the thread!

I love black tie, love it! I think its so classy and who cares if some people don't do it "right". Even if it was just the bridal party(which I think is what we are opting for) it will be lovely!

There is going to be a lot of noses out of joint with regards to my wedding, location and a smallish guest list, but do you know something? Its our wedding day and we will have what we want/ can afford!!

    is

It is harder than it looks isn't it.. We had said right no way are we paying a fortune that I was making them, just going to get the pocketfold ones.. Could not find decant prices for them so started searching again..

maybe if you put a document together with all the ones you like and sit down with your man and pick ones ye like..

Then work from there, pick a theme or a colour ye want to go for etc..

I was all up for colour and fun and ended up with a kinda brown colour and I hate brown but it works

We got ours from Vistaprint, found a 40% off coupon code too just before we ordered too so saved a nice bit :)

Our invites are mostly navy and coral.

  • Registered Users Posts: 56 ✭✭mslady

God I'm glad I'm not the only one that found that Wedding complaints thread depressing! I got so stressed out reading it that I had to walk away, there would have been tears otherwise. You've all made me feel SO much better about it all now though!

I hadn't a clue re invitations either but I started a pinterest board just for invites, and would dip in whenever I had 10 mins and just pinned anything I liked the look of. Then when you've a good few pinned, go in and look at the board as a whole - even if you dont think you know what you want, chances are there will be a definite pattern/trend of what you want! Ended up getting my bridesmaid to design them (she's handy with photoshop) based on 4 or 5 from pinterest and got them printed with Vistaprint.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,642 ✭✭✭✭fits

We are already committed to minted as I bought a black Friday deal for credit to use against invites. Got a sample pack and they're all lovely. I just can't pick one!

I know how you feel. They are all so pretty that it would be nice to have one of them each. I designed our invites and printed them on vistaprint but i must have gone over and back trying to add in bits and pieces as i loved them all.

At first i had different designs for RSVP cars and accommodation cards as i loved so many designs. Eventually settled on one design and used that to create a suite.

  • Registered Users Posts: 266 ✭✭CorkClaire82

We're using Wedding Scribblers and they designed our invites for us. I think we are getting a good deal but then again we are willing to spend extra on the invites/booklets/table plan/table names as it'll feed into our theme. It's probably a crazy deal really :)

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,657 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

We bought invite templates from Etsy and are printing them up ourselves :). I'm probably going to add a few decorative bits to them to jazz them up, but it's a nice compromise between total DIY and paying for gorgeous premade ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭Milly33

That was something we were planning to do too and then thought with the printing the cost would come up.. Man going nuts we had kinda picked what we wanted but then last night looking at it I was like ohhh if im honest I don't like it.. back to the drawing board

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 762 ✭✭✭Pistachios & cream

I printed mine on vistaprint and for 100 invites, 30 invite samples (3 different paper types which i can use if i run out), 150 Rsvps and 150 accommodation cards i paid about €150 for them. THey came with white envelopes which i didn't like so i bought other ones for them but it was still very cost effective.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,657 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

After not giving a moment's thought to our wedding for 4 months, suddenly the change in year seems to have brought it all to the fore! I had my MOH asking me loads about a hen party earlier, another bridesmaid wanting to know about shipping over my wedding dress for fittings, we've started to look at flights home for it... It's all very real again suddenly!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭Milly33

It is mad how it creeps up isn't it..

Himself is kinda telling me I should relax as I want to get a few bits sorted by the end of month but I would prefer to have them done now rather than later.

Like drink we must get our own, but then the local bar may provide but I want to know at what price.. Just incase anyone is doing the same. We sussed out the duty free in Amsterdam and it is well worth it. €14.95 for 1ltr bottle of vodka, Bacardi, tequila, gin and you can bring 10ltrs per person. So it saves a good bit...

Then he said sure its only 7 months away and I was like crap how am I going to shift this weight by then.. Very scary...

    When is yours Faith!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Had my annual leave request approved for the week of the wedding there today, things are getting very real!

Also possibly the only person on this thread that's loving how weak the euro is at the moment - rate movements have dropped the price of our wedding for us nicely since we booked it :D 77p to the euro is crazy...

  • Registered Users Posts: 56 ✭✭mslady

I have my hair & makeup trial on Saturday and have booked an appt for dress alterations...3.5 months to go! I'm half beside myself with excitement, half stressed out - i feel like i'm forgetting things that need to be done! I was the same as you Faith - before Christmas I hadn't done a tap for months and now its all kicked into gear big time!

What are ye doing as bridesmaids/mammies presents?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

I didn't realise that was A Thing until very recently! Probably Benefit sets for the girls and I have no idea what to get for the mammies...
