That's a very long handover period, any idea why they need 8 weeks?

Likely DTTAS won't stump up the operating payments for an early opening. An early opening in November has been mentioned by TII in the last few months but no earlier.

Any word on the Tuam bypass M17? Thanks for the update above by the way.

Who manages the SOS phones? Is it a company in Dublin and do they manage all SOS phones on motorways in the Republic?

TII manage them themselves at the control centre for the port tunnel I believe

Thanks for that info M17. I have heard that the Tuam Lions club cycle will be taking place on the motorway on Sun Sept 10th From Tuam to Gort and back which would tie in with those dates of all works being finished by the Fri 8th Sept.
Pity they wouldn't open it on Monday the 11th Sept then for traffic:(

Great idea to open it up to cycling it - pity you can't start at either end of the route though, they are definitely missing a trick there.

Why is the Tuan BP opening in August? From the pics it looks ready to open now.

The Department of Transport have to stump up availability payments for an early opening. I'm surprised that Canney isn't trying to get this open ASAP instead of trying to get the train to Tuam running.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Tuam BP opened as one with the rest, if it's ready to go now I don't see why they have to wait til August. It's only 4.2km long and has 1 junction so can't be too much "testing" involved.

Why does it have to be a bank holiday opening at all? Can it not open any day / week in theory?

They have to clean it with a toothbrush and that's going to take two months :)

The real reason of course is, as you've said, money - the Department won't have budgeted for payments this early. So it will remain unused until the government stumps up some cash.

Apologies, I wasn't very clear. What I mean was, if the whole scheme is penned in, availability payments wise, to open in November, and they are making an exception to open the Tuam bypass 3 months early in August, why not open it earlier than that if it's being opened early at all?
