Actually going to buy this album and give it a chance, liked a few tracks of big bois last album and what Iv heard of this.

I'm not an outkast fan really bar a few bits but il give it a chance, have a feeling it will be decent.

Only a few? Really? That was a classic, absolutely brilliant. Still listen to it every now and then, and it's all over my top 100 playlsit on itunes!

Do then. The closest to a bad song was the Jamie Fox one, and it wasn't that bad for a Jamie Fox collabo.

His flow is impeccable on the whole album.

Nice track, it needed another MC instead of a female singer though.

New tune and visual from Chamillionaire.

Not a bad song. First time I've heard it. Don't think it's for anything in particular.

The video is good. Gorgeous arse on your one. Nice touch with the police officer from the Ridin Dirty video as well. At least I'm certain it's him.

The police officer is Dee Bo from Friday!

I've had a brief listen to the new Pac Div album called G.M.B. Sounds really nice but have to give it a proper spin.

Thought I'd post this Sage Francis track here. It's worth a purchase, proceeds will got to the children's families.

    THE BACKGROUND STORY:
As it is World AIDS Days and I have thought about these children every single day since being acquainted with them almost two years ago, I decided that I can no longer sit on this song. In January of 2011 I visited Durban, South Africa to help mentor and provide care for HIV-infected children. For me, it was a crash course education on their situation, culture, history, and various forms of treatment (or lack there of.) With a reported 5.6 million people living with HIV, South Africa has the highest HIV infection rate in the world. That is mainly due to misinformation propagated by the government as well as the people’s lack of access to education and proper medical care. With so many people dying of AIDS in this area, many children are often left to fend for themselves in overcrowded “orphanages”, many of which have no electricity or running water according to what I witnessed.

My trip to Durban and the surrounding rural areas was organized by people who were filming a documentary on a community of people who were receiving alternative treatment along with their normal ARV (anti-retroviral) treatment. I joined a group of national and international poets whose task it was to make a connection with the children and communicate their story to the world. Toward the end of my stay I wrote a song called UBUNTU (Water Into Wine) which I was initially hoping to release as a companion piece to the film. The documentary will probably do a much better job of explaining the vast array of emotions we all went through, but as it still isn’t completed I figured it might be best to just release the song now.

Yea. It sounds suspiciously like the beat from "Peep Game" with another few layers on top of it. Can't complain though. All of the beats on that mixtape were top notch.

So I've listened to the new Big Boi album a couple of times now. I am not impressed. Too 'pop', not enough rapping and not enough stank to it.
It just sounds all too casual.

    Unfortunately I completely agree.

Compared to Sir Lucious Left Foot it's a very poor effort, in my opinion. I've listened to it a few times and disappointingly the only real stand out track for me was "In The A", which is an absolute banger.

I'll have to listen to it a few more times but like yourself, I expected way more rapping and far less R&B/Pop influences, which I really wasn't expecting from Big Boi.

The production was also surprisingly fairly average too. I would have personally liked less tracks produced by Big Boi & Chris Carmouche and more production from the likes of Organized Noize, Mr DJ, DJ Toomp, Jazze Pha, [insert popular Southern producer here].

It's a pity André 3000 had no involvement at all because he definitely could have contributed something to the mix.

Hopefully T.I.'s "Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head" doesn't similarly disappoint, but judging by the production credits and the fact that T.I. is lyrically on fire right now, I doubt it will be anything but brilliant (fingers crossed).

Actually it was something Dre said which made him decide not to do another funk album apparently.

I just downloaded it this morning and planned to listen to it over lunch. Disappointed to hear its too poppy. Had such high hopes for this.

I've been away for the last few days and only saw this now. I'm kinda delighted really. Freddie Gibbs has left Young Jeezy's label.
"It was a mutual decision," he explained, before adding that there wasn't just one reason for him leaving.

"It was a number of things but at the end of the day, it was a good decision for myself and my family. It was a move that I had to make personally and business-wise."

"We just move in different ways so it's best that he move in his way and it's best that I move in my way."
"I've got a new deal in the works so everything's smooth. Everything's good...I'm not one of them guys to sit back and be bitter. This don't define me. This is a move that I gotta to make in my career. Players get traded all the time and go to different teams and win championships."

He has the ability to go anywhere and still dominate beats. Hopefully he picks wisely this time and gets to stick with the label.

Also I hope this doesn't delay his record with Madlib. That has to drop as soon as possible. I'm getting impatient here.

I've been listening to this on and off for the past few days, and it's growing on me. It's definitely not the album I was expecting, and would prefer to see him on something funkier a la SLL or some southernplayalisticcadiilacfunkymusic type ****, but it's a good listen.

In The A is an absolute banger, and liking Thom Pettie, Gossip, and Lines as well.

Really looking forward to the A$AP Rocky album actually - really liking everything I've heard from him since Hands on The Wheel by SChoolboy Q.

I'm giving Big Boi a break for a while and listening to other mixtapes and albums that I haven't gotten around to this year so far. This is just a bunch of stuff that has been building up and I've had no motivation to listen to. I do this every so often to try find something new and something quality. No joy so far!

Hopefully after listening to some of this cr*p it will give me a better mind to listen to Big Boi with.

Can someone give me a quick review of the best albums from about the second half/3rd quarter of the year to now? I've only heard a few well known ones and maybe a couple of lesser known underground stuff....but yeah rec's please? :D College has definitely affected the amount of time I have for listening to music. At the start of the year I was able to maybe sneak three-four spins between the journey up and down but they're now devoted to much needed sleep...I'm finished for Christmas on thursday and with a new iPod (hopefully) arriving next tuesday I can stock up.

So yeah lads that'd be much appreciated! Cheers

Action Bronson - rare chandeliers free mixtape
    Nas - Life is good
Good Music - Cruel Summer ( kanye collab)
Big Boi - vicious lies and dangerous rumours
    Xzibit - Napalm

Kendricks new album is dividing opinion but I'm not very well up on him, I'm sure others here will have more (better) suggestions. Wu block is also getting good word but I haven't got round to that one yet.

If I had to listen to one of those above I'd start with Nas.

Agree with pretty much everything weemcd has said bar cruel summer I taught that was shocking tbh, I liked mercy though even 2chainz was listenable on it.

I think you'll find in general most people would rate GKMC as one of, if not the, album of the year. Of course there has to be some people, including a huge fan like MUFC, who don't like it, but that certainly wouldn't stop me recommending it. I think he'll agree that it is a very interesting album, and I'll go further in saying it's amazing. At least in need of a listen. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,970 ✭✭✭mufcboy1999

If gkmc is amazing etc what does that make section 80 ? Il always compare an artist to his best work and IMO section 80 is KL's.

I honestly can't Believe someone can say gkmc is better than section 80 and actually Believe it, I'm not saying anyone here has either btw. Section 80 was unique and a breath of fresh air, I don't think the same can be said for gkmc especially when both's content is compared.

I just think there's been better albums released this year by a long shot by other artists. GKMC is good like I said and I would recommend it but I think people's opinions are slightly blinkered by the bandwagon that comes with KL at the moment.

I can quote you section.80 word for word nearly*, but there is just something about GKMC that makes it comparable. I don't know what it is. Section.80 by all measurable things is a better album, but there is just something about GKMC.

Public enemys 2 albums and brother alis are worth a listen as is Childish Gambinos Royalty.

*Despite being years late to Kendrick (despite hearing him in 2006 and not knowing it)

    Also amazing, but very different.

Equally as good in my books, as a piece of music GKMC is probably better but Section 80 probably has better individual tracks.

I honestly just can't see GKMC as an amazing or future classic album. B*tch don't kill my vibe , swimming pools and maybe one or two more are exceptional songs but they don't make a great album on their own, there's too many flaws, boring to average songs/moments on the album for me. I think when compared track v track and as a whole , section 80 is the clear winner.

The content/lyrics for the best part on gkmc are something i never really expected from KL, very commercialised recycled approach to the vast majority of it ,something you could never accuse him of on his previous work.

I think boom bap said it, KL just doesn't really let rip on this album and I honestly feels he rides a lot of the beats fairly bad, maybe it's to do with that accent he's adopted on a few of the songs, I'm not sure.

I'm obviously being very critical of him on this album but I can't help but feel let down by it, maybe it's because I expected so much going by his older stuff and the actual build up to it. It might grow on me in the future but atm bar bitch don't kill my vibe Iv no urge to bump it atm.

I've just been listening to some albums that have been lying around lately and have found a few gems.

Omen - A Glorious Cool EP
Mike The Martyr - Lake Street Store

The new Mayhem Lauren mixtape called 'Mandatroy Brunch Meetings' is pretty good too.

A couple of good Irish releases in 'Flying Butress - Orsen Wells' and 'Bitter Rock - Cold City'...and GI's album is prettydarn good as well.

But the main one that I would recommend is 'Susbstantial - Home Is Where The Art Is'. Spectacular album.

Very divisive* album. I like it and I still don't know.

It still strikes me as a like a book or movie adaption to section.80, it hits a lot of the same points in different and the same ways but with more of a compton twist obviously.
