that fiesta does not seem to be supported in a very safe manner, concrete blocks can crumble you would be in serious bother then:eek:

Got my Cruise Control activated - including light on the dash which seems to be a hit and miss thing to get. No joy with the deadlocks and anti-hijack though.

Eibach Pro Kit fitted, should settle down even more after 100kms.

    Armrest - Tick!

Still having trouble with the rear interior lights. Got some new smaller error free bulbs, but the one on the driver's side still isn't playing ball. Think it might be a bad connection, going to see if I can get a new fitting.

The perfect height you have there, dunno what the obsession is with others and lowering even more, looks awful.

Is that a boomerang whyulittle? How much did you get it for, is it worth the ~€150?

Put some autosol metal polish on my brothers headlights, came up brand new.
Fixed the loose connection on my mums break light.
And my xp kit is being sprayed as we speak, should have it back by tomorrow midday :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭whyulittle

Boomerang yes, begrudingly worth it. I'd rather spend the money on this than half the price on a bad loose fitting one, or having to drill holes or put self-tapping screws into the trim.

That said, I'd also rather that I had only ordered it today (now selling for 25 quid sterling less than what I paid for it!).

Fits in seamlessly and you get to keep the square storage area.

Is it sturdy? Where did you see that lower price? The top of it looks very grey, does it suit the interior? What's it made of? Leatherette stuff? Or padding?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭whyulittle

Leatherette on top, same sort of texture as all the plastic in the car.

The black metal plate is secured by the two screws near the back of the centre console (on the sides), and the bolt at the very back. Then the arm is a fairly big chunk of metal, and the rest itself is on another good bit of metal that slots in, screwed together with an allen key.

The colours all match up pretty well. The underside of the arm is slightly darker than the normal plastic, but same texture.

    Normal service is resuming :)

Wasn't impressed with my lights (maybe its the electrics, I don't know) but I decided to refurb the lights (ok, one headlight) using an old myth...

    First, said light
    Image2232.jpg

The myth (I swear this is not a cheap plug :pac:)
    Image2233.jpg

    In the process of...
    Image2234.jpg

    Clean it off
    Image2235.jpg

    And we have....
    Image2236.jpg

A slightly cleaner light that smells minty :pac:

I know of a car with a yellowing headlight, I'll try it on that when I get the chance :)

@dgt - Haha I done the exact same thing to the punto today. But I used the tooth paste gel by mistake. So it didn't work. :/ Smells nice to though. :D

Exactly what I thought. Smoother and a small bit cleaner but not as big of a difference as I was expecting.

Think of it as a "I was going to try that but someone else did" post :pac:

Failed NCT today for a bad horn! ... well that and a handbrake imbalance.

Could have been worse I suppose :)

Took the sunroof and the bracket for my tft screen out of the car, then drilled a hole in the roof :)

Normal service is resuming, bit by bit :)

    First, the 406 at night...
    Image2237.jpg

Was concerned about how crap my brakes went. So off with the wheels on both sides...
    Image2238.jpg

    Drums too
    Image2239.jpg

Problem was that side too. There is a spring type piece that stays on the adjuster, that wasn't on properly as in the pic. Wound up and spring placed correctly, sorted :)

    Decided to clean these 2
    Image2240.jpg

    Then the 406
    Image2241.jpg

Front is scabby, better get the paint code...
    Image2242.jpg

All that baked on green crap as a disaster to get off. Din't get it all either

    Windows cleaned up too
    Image2243.jpg

And how many years of crap was built up on the stalks???!!
    Image2244.jpg

Now a rather nice smelling and clean 406 :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭BUBBLE WRAP

@dgt - you can find the paint code on the sticker which is located on the pillar at the front of the drivers door, open the drivers door fully , look in the area between the two hinge fixing points s , get a rag and wipe away all the dirt and presto , all will be revealed!! I think....

Today I popped the hood on the fto and painted the text on the plenum blue. :)

That engine bay is screaming out for some APC.

My interior SMD lights seem to have sorted themselves out.

I got a new light fitting from a scrapyard today, installed it but had the exact same problem with the driver's side light blowing everything.

After much mixing and matching, I managed to get all bulbs working as courtesy and or reading lights (with the old fitting).

So then I went out later to hoover it, and the front courtesy light was flicking again. Gave the back lights a very technical smack, and they seem to be working again. Fingers crossed they keep up.

While at the scrapyard, I noticed that the little bin beside the 12V plug should have a little rubber mat in it - instead of the bare plastic bin with two holes in it that mine had! It's the little things! :D

Snapped a bolt today on the air fliter box. I got the bolt out that snapped. Had to head to the local garage and look in the collection of bolts and found ones that fitted.

Still trying to resume normal service.... :pac:

First, found out some scrote scraped my car!
    Image2254.jpg

Bah, its an old car, but still. Not cool

My 2 front tyres. What balls of crap... Not anymore!

Had to source a set first... Easy!
    Image2245.jpg

    Take the sh*tty tyre off...
    Image2246.jpg

    The old fashioned way
    Image2247.jpg

    Better
    Image2248.jpg

An important part: marking alignment of the other tyre, for balancing...
    Image2249.jpg

    Nearly there...
    Image2250.jpg

    There and filling with air
    Image2251.jpg

Next, the counterweight from the old wheel...
    Image2253.jpg

Once put in the right place, on with the wheel
    Image2255.jpg

My gamble with the balancing paid off. No more vibration at motorway speed, delighted :D

Same process for the other side but couldn't be arsed to take the same pictures :pac:

That's what, €15 per side saved along with the price of the tyres...?

Lets see if I get anything done later...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,574 ✭✭✭dharn

    Thats real bangernomics there !!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭advertsfox

I did this. Driving at 77KPH and taking a stable picture at the same time seemed too difficult... so I stopped :)

Round 2 of the Tesco toothpaste :pac:

This time on a yellowing headlight...
    Image2256.jpg

    In the process of...
    Image2257.jpg

    Now for the windowlene...
    Image2258.jpg

    And the result
    Image2259.jpg

I'm just shocked, 3 minutes and the yellow is gone :eek::eek:

I'd be afraid to use it as a toothpaste :pac:

Edit: As opposed to posting yet another post, here's a tunnel run in the 406 earlier today....

It' just not the same any more, sigh...

Swapped out my Federal 595 Evos for Hankook Ventus S1 Evos in 255/30/19 & 225/35/19. Only have them on since this morning but it has cured my rubbing issues that were driving me mad and I now have eight million times* more grip. The smaller and stiffer sidewalls have drastically improved turn in too, delighted!

    *Might be a slight exaggeration
