AES collecting is only for Richie Rich and Steve SI. You are better off getting one of the MVS units that are designed for home play like the F series and supergunning it. Games are much cheaper as well, postage is still a bitch :)

Jaysus that's awfully expensive alright. Doesn't even come with a stick?!

Best way to get an AES is to import one from Japan. Mine cost about €120 after postage. I'd say it's a bit more expensive now - but still nowhere near that madness.

I'm selling Secret of Mna boxed Pal version. Misspelt the listing on eBay. Is it wrong that I find that amusing.

;) Yeah, eBay always has the possibility of being the land of crazy! I saw one sell on eBay for £325 last year, but I'd much rather sell it to someone in Ireland via Adverts, hence the price reduction.

Most of 'em have "Make an offer" options though :D

It's either non-PAL, a promo version, without manual, or in the sh*ts. This copy's near mint. Although, in hindsight, I think the ol' estimation may have been alittle OTT :D

I've eventually got a few items up on eBay via the Gadunky name after fighting with eBay/PayPal to lift listing limits for the new account.

    http://www.ebay.ie/sch/gadunky/m.html

Feels weird having an account with such a low rating but I guess I'll have to work on that over the next year or so before opening up the retail store in Dublin.
Not that much up at the moment as I'm just starting off slow and small but if someone wants a new and sealed Okami for the PS2 it might go cheap so keep an eye on it.

    Edit:
It only shows 13 items but there is a few just gone up so might take a min to show up as eBay is a bit on the wonky side tonight.

Jesus I hate adverts. I put up a link in this ad to the place he'd originally bought the ps1s from (for 35 euro) to clearly show he was profiteering.

My post was deleted. Some muppet just paid 115 for it.

Anyone know anything about retooling moulds for injection moulding?

I'd was taught it was expensive as all hell to get done. Plainly I was taught wrong if something like can be viably made for the cheap knock-off market.

Though looking at the lower half (the "grips") there's curves and details that aren't there on the second one, so maybe its not so much the originals' moulds were used to make an over-run of the casings as the original's design was plagiarised to make a new mould with a tweaked design.

Is that a Gamecube analogue stick imitation I see? Dr. Frankenstein would approve.

If it were exactly the same you'd think it was a sold on mould or from a surplus. As it's not though, I'd say the design was just ripped off like you see with other Chinese pirates.

Also I'd say Nintendo would never sell on moulds or surplus products, they can be really protective of their designs and IPs.

Still, it's an interesting find. I'd say only a handful of people have ever noticed!

Rather than the mould, an original iQue was probably provided as a "sample" or "reference" design.

    Completely agreed.
Still, it's an interesting find. I'd say only a handful of people have ever noticed!
I didn't think of that, but you're probably right - the iQue never really was mass-marketed outside of China (correct me if I'm wrong) and the, ahem, "new" design is packaged for English language regions. Not much overlap there. Hong Kong maybe?

I definitely can see a member of the Nintendo legal team seeing this with much wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth before we did. There's no legal recourse (legal recourse for IP disputes? in China?) and Nintendo need to rely on cheap Chinese manufacturing as anyone else. They've no alternative so the legal team are busy in regions where the courts can actually get them favourable results.

(I said favourable, I did not say just ;)).

Not trolling or anything but that cab does nothing for me. I guess a lot of the attraction of cabs is for sentimental reasons. The button placement looks messed up on it, especially P2. Presume the seats can be moved closer too?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Does nothing for me either, I used to see those cabs all the time when I was a young pup. I remember playing Metal Slug on them a lot and In The Hunt. Not a fan of the design, sit one of those next to an Aero City and it's no contest!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

On the other hand, I grew up playing them & its exactly sentimental reasons. I'd take one over a Candy any day, purely because of the connection to my youth they hold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 734 ✭✭✭80s Synth Pop

you are right - it's definitely down to personal taste and what you played on. The cab is in very poor condition. Smoke burns, damage to every part of it & a non-working monitor. Buttons are at an odd angle too.

But this is the type of cab I played Street Fighter, Bubble Bobble, Mortal Kombat, Raiden II, Metal Slug, AvP, Neo Turf Masters on with those little red joysticks :D For that reason IMHO It's perfect for the retro arcade games (15khz monitor) and the Jap candy cabs for the modern 25/31khz games.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,476 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Agreed EnterNow and 80s. I never played that particular cab in my youth (never noticed one in Dun Laoghaire/Dublin/Mosney etc) but I'd have the same fondness for an original Aliens woody cab, Robocop, King of Boxer or Pac-Land etc.

Did they ever have one of those Electrocoin's in Quirkeys or something?

Never actually played Metal Slug in the arcades either, maybe that was too recent for me.

Pumped plenty of 20p pieces into Metal Slug in an electrocoin like that one in the Hideout On South William Street back in the day when it was a proper Pool and amusement hall.

They were proper beasts of machines, absolutely huge. I wouldn't be too fond of them myself, as I really wanted Bray Bowl to get a real Neo Geo Electrocoin in, but all they had was those ones.

I think at one point they even had a multi board in one.

I got to agree too, those Electrocoin cabs do nothing for me.
Sorry to those with all the fond memories of them :) I really am :)

But I cant ever remember playing them back in the good old days,
but did see them in London casino Arcade, place was full of them,
but for me they so old and tacky looking. If having monster 2P Cab, Super megalo for me.

My Arcade days are from mid 80's and all 90's
And I wouldnt compare them to Candy, they different kettle of fish entirely,
But I much rather MK, KillerInstinct cab and the likes as my old fav 15-25k Cabs.
Or even any nice cab with decent artwork or the old Taito Cocktails,
they got so much more character and found memories for me.

That all being said, if its ye're dream cab go for it, its your own opinion that really matters :)
Id probably like em bit more too if they werent for that brown color and if had nicer nice artwork :)

Ya thats the one, on Goodge street, easy out to find,
retro shop around bend from it shut down over last few months.

TBH its bit of dive and old lad in there is bit cranky,
I think he part of Electrocoin from what I read earlier,
but I dont mind, was a blast being back in proper arcade again bar my house :)
Has some great games in there but a lot of back have seen better days.

Fell in Love with DELTA Cabs he had, They remind me of sexy Naomi Net City Upgrade with two LCDs:
