Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In the Contacts screen within Viber, when you select a Contact it displays their info which I assume is pulled from the general contacts. An option to send a Text Message is here and I know that on the iPhone this opens up the Messages app but I'd imagine it does nothing on the iPod.

    I see now.
Yes, you are right. Naturally, some features of Viber on iPod or iPad would be irrelevant because it is not an iPhone, and cannot make calls or send SMS.
However, in Viber 2.0 (our upcoming release) there will be an option to actually text from within Viber itself to another Viber user, so that'll be a possible substitute.

Great - thanks for the info.

Vodafone blocked Viber in a few other European countries, and it seemed that Viber was also blocked in the UK.
For now it seems OK, but I need users' input on that.

About the desktop version - this is actually our next goal after the Android version.
Naturally, it'll take a while before our PC version is fully developed and available for users. As always, you will know once it's ready and/or we need beta testing.

Yes, confirm that it was blocked in Italy.

Viber 2 is out and as expected, it's messaging between Viber users and therefore should not be referred to as "SMS". All very welcome, of course.

For SMS try Heywire or Textfree with Voice, as well as our own Jellysms and EirText.

We are removing Viber 2.0 from the app store due to unforeseen tech difficulties. Should be back shortly. Sorry for any inconvenience :-(

    This is correct.

As stated, some users worldwide reported that installation of Viber 2.0 couldn't be completed.
We are gathering information from them in order to pinpoint the problem, and we will upload a fixed version of 2.0 back to AppStore shortly.

    I see.

For my part, I updated without issue on 2 iPhones and 2 iPads.

Any news on the Android (Beta) Release date???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,308 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

I think the android version will send this app through the roof.

The question above was what was the difference between viber and skype. For me the biggest difference is viber working off your phone number, and not having to pick a username and share that with yoru contacts. As soon as someone installs Viber I get notified, and I can see a list of viber users in my contacts (in the app).

The text function will help too.

Spot on dodge, especially with the texting this is now going to go bananas. Basically no need to pay for calls or texts etc between anyone you know who has a smartphone. Sweet!

For anyone who thinks ‘but its just the same as skype – I don’t see why I should bother using it” – you are so so so so so so so wrong. Just download it now and give it a go, you can thank me later.

    All,

Is there anyone in this thread for whom Viber crashed immediately after installing 2.0?

If so, would be kind enough as to help us get logs from your iPhone and investigate the issue? Such logs would speed up handling the problem for the sake of all users worldwide.

    Thank you in advance,
    Viber.

Looks good and a nice addition with the Messaging. Hopefully group messages and media attachment will come soon. Don't see this replacing whatsapp just yet.

Seems to work better than whats app..i Always found with whats app you wouldn't get message until u were back in a wi-fi zone.Viber text working good on 3g and edge.thumbs up from me:D

Does Viber have the ability to share location, or share contacts through text? They're two really neat features of WhatsApp!

    Happy Days :D

    1. Viber can and should work with iPad on both 3G (if you have a SIM) and WiFi (if you don't, and use it only to connect to the internet).

    2. All the features you mentioned here (and planned for our next versions (including sending contact info by message)

I cant seem to get calls to work on this over wifi or 3g, it keeps giving me the little red box with poor signal, although i can be heard by the other person. Anyone any ideas?

    1. Are both sides using the latest version on AppStore? (2.0.1)
    2. Any chance that any of the conversation's sides is behind a firewall/router?
    3. Both sides should try using Viber on a different WiFi network in order to maybe pinpoint the problem.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,466 ✭✭✭Lumi

Having the same problem - I can make and receive calls but can't hear the person on the other end and they can't hear me. Both sides are on the latest version of Viber.

This happens whether I'm on WiFi or 3G or on the same or different WiFi networks

Text messaging is working fine though

Love the app, I wish messaging could include location sharing and image sending.

    1. For those of you who can't hear the other side - what devices are you using? Please provide me with both hardware version and iOS version.

    2. About the features you requested for our text messaging service - all these and more are planned in our upcoming versions (2.0.2 and 2.1). New features, such as sending images, will be implemented soon.

    There shouldn't be any problem...
    1. Are you behind a firewall or a router?
    2. Are you using Viber on WiFi or 3G?

    Hi Klingklang,
Have you experienced any problems using Viber 2.0.2 (the latest version in AppStore) on your iPod-Touch?

    Regards.

Have the problems been fixed now in 2.0.2, or are you still having connection troubles?

All works very smoothly. The only issue I've had was an undelivered text to an iPhone using an older version of the app. Once the iPhone was updated to the latest version, all was well :)

    Would you please elaborate?
What version did you have previously (that gave you trouble), and which did you upgrade to, that solved the issue?

Seems to have sorted any problems I was having - Viber's working perfectly now - Cheers!

One question though, I accidentally deleted a contact who is also on Viber, re-entered the details but they no longer show up in my list of Viber contacts. Sent another invitation to them etc but they still aren't listed. I can exchange calls and txts no problem by manually entering their number.

Both on iPhone 4 on latest IOS version if thats important

    Thanks

Is that person also in your iPhone's contact list?
If so, enter Viber and find that person in the "All" contact list. Enter his details, change a digit, save and exit. Then enter his contact again, change the digit back (to the original, correct number), save and exit. Wait about 10 minutes and see if he's recognized as a Viber user now.

If not - let me know.

Is it just me or when you try to call someone on viber does it always ring, even if the person is offline?

I'm on o2 and my girlfriend is on vodafone, viber never seems to work when we try to ring each other.

anyone else use this app on 02 with iphone and get it to work successfully?

Yeah just downloaded it tonight and it worked fine for me! Good alternative to skype!

I'm having the exact same problem as Fionagus had.

    • I have Iphone 3gs with o2 (using wifi)
    • Girlfriend has iPhone 3gs with vodafone (using 3g)

    Both running Ios4.31

Messaging works perfect and we can ring each other but when we answer we can't hear each other

    I'm using a ADSL router

Any ideas how to sort this issue out?

    Thank you

Your indication that the other person's Viber is ACTUALLY ringing, is if you see "Ringing.." in the call screen. That way you know the call went through and appears on the other person's screen.
