I've just finished Batman year one and also DR Who 10th Doctor Volume one. Quite enjoyed the Batman one. Any suggestions on what Batman next to read?

The Long Halloween is sort of an indirect sequel to Year One and is directly followed by Dark Victory, which is also great. There's tonnes of Batman material out there but they're a good place to go next.

Cheers for that. I'll go for them next. Someone recommended The Dark Knight Returns. Where does that figure in order of reading?

It really doesn't figure anywhere. It's totally stand alone and set ten years after Batman has retired. It's fantastic and well worth getting as well. Many people dislike the sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again, but I think that's great as well!

    Done book 1 of Saga.
Interesting world building. But it didn't really grab me.

Also picked up Transformers regeneration 1. Even feels like it did back in the 80s
Hope to enjoy the full run

    Hickman hardcover Avengers 1
Hickman hardcover New Avengers 1 - New Avengers easily the better of the two even though it's an Illuminati book not Avengers. But then who would willingly sit through that much Reed Richards and Namor under a different title? Reed Richards is the worst. Rassin' frassin' Richards on an Avengers book but Johnny Storm has to hang out with the wannabe X-Men Inhumans...

    Hellboy 2: Wake the Devil
    BPRD: Plague of Frogs 2

    Nightwing 1: Traps and Trapezes
Nightwing 2: Night of the Owls

    Nightwing 1: Bl
üdhaven - Mostly a re-read for me as it collects A Knight in Blüdhaven but with the addition of the original Nightwing mini-series which includes art by Greg Land before he relied on a random copy-paste photo-realistic collage of porn Google images. Still think Nightwing's time in Blewdhaven suffers from just trying to make him the Batman of another city when he's supposed to be coming into his own *Dick Grayson pornface*. Plus no DC city should be labeled as worse than Gothan.

Batman: Mad Love and Other Stories

Gotham City Sirens Book One - Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn move in together and stuff happens but the non-Paul Dini stuff isn't as good. I liked Detective Riddler, I'm guessing it didn't last long?

    Naruto 65

Assassin's Creed: Subject 4 - If doable, I'd like to see an ongoing AC series at some point (not to be confused with the ongoing game series) as the comics are really useful for exploring different approaches to the franchise. The French comics still suck though. tongue.png

Oh and I read Fantastic Four: Books of Doom #1 while flip-flopping on whether to actually pay for Marvel Unlimited (or just buy a digital copy). Want to read the book but the TPB prices are unreasonable and Unlimited is cumbersome. Turns out I had the first issue as part of the Marvel 700 anyway

Robin: Year One might make for a good companion to Dark Victory (though I think Dark Victory is a Long Halloween do-over with added Robin).

Finished Batman Year one and have ordered a few of the recommendations here.

Currently waiting on them to arrive coupled with some recommendations from Big Bang comics

Currently have the Ghostbusters/TMNT crossover to read. Anyone read it? Is it any good?

It's good fun, the IDW TMNT and Ghostbusters series themselves are really good too.

Going to branch out a little with my next few purchases ( come on payday!) blitzing through Batman, so want to grab one or two bits to keep things fresh.

    Currently reading

    Batman (New 52)
Volume 2 : City of Owls (half way through)
Volume 3: Death in the family

    Planned next purchases:

Batman Volume 4: Zero Year - Secret City
    Deadpool Volume 1: Dead Presidents
    Transformers : Chaos Theory

Definitely like the decision to move physical from digital, and also making that first visit to Big Bang. Their store just purely engrossed me, and I can definitely seeing myself out there every payday :D Apart from a handful of novels, I'm totally new to comics, but its grabbing me in with both arms, loving reading these batman ones so far. Plan to rebuy all the **** I read digitally(wasn't much but a decent chunk of Justice League and Dark Knight) but also branch into some new stuff entirely.

Finishing Batman up to latest volume and then taking in Deadpool and Transformers appears to be the route at present. Wrote out a list on lunch of what I want to get through. Atleast I'll be easy to buy for come Christmas !

Bit bored so had a read back through this thread. Saw a lot of mention of TWD. I love the TV show, and while buying my Batman stuff the other day noticed herself flicking through The Walking Dead.

Might be an opportunity to pick it up for her , and then read them when shes finished.

The compendium books looked absolutely massive. I'd say ideally might like to get the individual volumes for aesthetics purposes, but value wise the compendiums look a no brainer. But is it not a bit of a struggle reading something that thick ? :D

I didn't check the volume prices or compendium price sin the big bang shop, but generally appears the Volumes are €15 with the compendiums at €40, that about right?

Been reading a "collectors editions" from Easons of Spidey from just after Civil-War. Some good stories but loving the older stuff that put in with it (The whole Ned Leeds story and marriage). Have loads to get through, also have same collection of Fantastic 4 and X-Men.

Want to read an arc now so will let whatever get the most recommendations of what I have a go next.

Spider-verse/New Amazing run. Have up to issue 16, none red yet after Superior finished
Sin City, The Big Fat Kill - read it years ago but was only a small version included in a DVD special.
Watchmen - Started this on holidays the other year but didn't get through it. Was loving it at the time too.
    Batman, Court of the Owls
    A v X
    Wolverine v Deadpool (first one)
The following from the Marvel Graphic Novel Collection:
Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle
    Daredevil: Blind Guardian
    Spider-man Blue
    F4 Unthinkable
    F4 Authoritative Action
    Ghost Rider: Road to Damnation
Avengers Breakout (Think I read this but a quick flick through didn't re-jig my mind)
    Planet Hulk
    Eternals
    Captain America The Chosen
    X-Men Schism
    Dr Strange The Oath

As you can see quite a backlog :P Think I have another trade but not coming to mind at the moment. Edit: Judge Dredd Mega Collection #1

On a side not does anyone know if Forbidden Planet or Sub City stock the Graphic Novel Collection? Want to fill in the issues I'm missing

    Cheers

Batman - Court of Owls the only one there I've read myself, and recently. Got through it relatively quickly and thoroughly enjoyed it. Enjoyed it so much drove all the way out to Dundrum and picked up volume 2 and 3. Currently going through 2 which I'm really liking also.

I stayed away from the Compendiums for that reason, figured the spine wouldn't last that long and it'd be heavy as **** - I like to read lying down holding above my head :pac:

I collect the books. 12 issues in each (vs 6 in the volumes) and I prefer the hardcover.

Have to say have a thing for the paperbacks. Hardcovers look nice, but was flicking through a Justice League one and it looks like effort to read the two page spreads you need to twist.

But will keep an eye out when I'm next buying to see if those books are there, and see which feels/looks nice/best

    Hi Doc

I am getting into Deadpool also and someone recommended The complete collection vol 1 by Daniel Way as it has some of the other graphic novels in it and has caught a few people out by having a few copies of the same stories.

I am going to start with this anyway!

Got the 1st two volumes of Suicide Squad at DCC last weekend, It's from the New 52 i think

Really enjoyable I do think though they almost act too Heroish in it especially Deadshot , where as in thunderbolts they were alot more villainous

Its a pity King Shark isn't going to be in the movie i loved how plain ridiculous he was one of my favorite characters

Skint at the moment so need to wait for payday to pickup next two volumes in the Batman series.

I'm another just starting the New 52 Batman. Read the Court of the Owl start to finish last weekend. Really, really good. A few little niggles with it tho like
Why didn't he know about the secret 13th floor
If the Talon was so precise, why couldn't he avoid the ledge Bruce Wayne made it to when pushed off the tower
Batman takes a bit too much punishment, sword through the body and can still get away
Why didn't he know about the maze under his city?
and the length of time he is down there is a bit ambiguous

That's just me nit picking and none ruined my enjoyment of the graphic novel. Maybe I may have overlooked some parts of the story and maybe the next volume might explain them but will be definitely getting the next few books.

Also reading out of my list; Wolverine Origins: Deapool. Only 3/4 of the way through but it has picked up a good bit. Not the biggest fan of the artwork in it but some good panels none the less

New to comics apart from the odd graphic novel but I started Saga today. I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone that it's rather good. Drawn in by the art, kept there by the writing.

Looking to get a few of the Batman collections like Year One, Hush, Long Halloween etc. next, as well the New 52 series and some Hellboy. On the shelf I have the Serenity trades and a few volumes of Buffy to get through. Recommendations appreciated!

Just read The Killing Jokestart to finish on lunch there. Bought it three years ago with a rake of other Batman novels with a voucher I had, this had been sitting there gathering dust.

Really enjoyable and gave me some insight into things that had just "been" in games I'd played or other comics etc. Was very good, and I enjoyed the ending. Can only imagine the fan theory and stuff that would have been around at the time of release (and maybe still happens?)

"A death in the family" is another book I have at home for years gathering dust, think I'll start on that lunchtime tomorrow.

Payday next Monday so trip to Big Bang on lunch to stock up on some fresh stuff to read. Going to pickup my normal Batman New 52 continuation, but toying with also branching out. Toss up between Deadpool or IDW Transformers.

Deadpool is at an attractive price on Amazon, do depending on BigBang pricing for Transformers(if they have them) might get both.

Currently re-reading Matt Fraction's Hawkeye. With all the delays, I never actually finished the run (stopped somewhere around #17) but now that it's finished, I've gotten around to going back to the start. Just finished #11 (right where the Little Hits tpb finishes). It's even better than I remember. There's so much fun to this book. I mean, look at this panel:

Awesome! Looking forward to seeing how it all ends and then starting in on Jeff Lemire's subsequent run.
