Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That can be alot of hassle when on a mobile. CNET's website can sometimes be a little scattered.

Wow - anyone wathcing Cnet ?
They are tearing into the show - the one female presenter is highly offended (can't really blame her honestly)

BTW why the hell was she offended?

I like this phone more than I liked the S3 when I first seen it... The Verge is saying some of the software bits in the S4 will be coming to the S3 in time.

I like it I have to say and will have a think about this thing or the nexus 5.

    I want this phone already!

Why, I didn't really see anything amazing apart from gimmicky apps.

Won't all phones have most of these features?

Still think the phone lacks in the design dept.

I think your 460 posts in Apple Devices and 15 in Android Devices may have something to do with that opinion.

Personal taste, but I find the S3 looks cheap and plastic, and this is no improvement.

No, I post in the Apple Devices thread more as I have an iPhone and don't really post in Android devices as I don't have one.

However, that does not make me biased.

I would switch to Samsung or an another device if I saw benefits in it for me.

Also I don't take part in teenage Apple v Samsung or iOS v Android stuff.

Have I spoken about the experience of the phone? No.

I've spoken about the look and feel of the phone, based on S3 tha I've had in my hand (that counts as real experience to me) and now the new images of the S4 which we all saw tonight.

Don't know why people are so defensive about this.

That's true alright but do people actually buy phones for what they look like??

Its whats inside that counts is it not,

Not you but i bet most people have a stupid cover on their phone that makes the whole thing of liking the look of a phone pointless.

Thats an argument i never understand,

ohhhh i love how that looks, oh wait i'll cover it up with this cover so i never get a scratch on it, but wait i never get to enjoy the slickness and look of my phone which is why i bought it in the first place. silly

I think the look of the phone is very important for people.

Agree with you about the covers, I hate them but users would argue it protects them and also maintains its resale value.

I don't understand that either. I made similar points to murpho in an earlier post about the design and some of the software features. I think the similar look and feel is a strategy to establish a brand and image that is already well underway, but I think I would prefer some innovations on the design side as well, especially since I am very much on the 'never get a cover' side of the argument. The function is important, but tbh, the looks will be what sell a lot of phones, even to those that cover them up. Don't fix if it ain't broken perhaps, but I prefer evolving design rather than sticking for the sake of the brand.

FWIW, I'm not a fan of the iphone design either and think that could do with a huge shake up as well, although I have no intention of switching to them so that's a moot point perhaps.

This is getting childish now, that was a remark about the new features mentioned tonight.

No one has experience of them yet, so to follow your logic no one should say anything good or bad about them.

I think it's fair comment to say that a lot of the new features shown tonight, were nice, but are gimmicky, and will not really be used by most people.

I never use a cover myself, hate them, just takes away the feel of the phone, ive tried but its still pointless to buy a phone on looks and put a cover on it and not being able to get the proper feel or look of a phone, no matter how much it protects it.

Theres covers out there that cover so much you could have a nokia 3210 in there (a bit too far :D but ya know what i mean)

Anyway, had many a phone, From nokia to apple and siemens to samsung, so i'll be giving this a try and see how she runs. Be rude not too :D

Just seen the dimensions. It's the same height as the S3 but is a little thinner and not as wide (practically no difference in width though). That's impressive, I'd still prefer if they had kept it just as thick (it feels wrong using that word when taking about phones as thin as the S3 but you know what I mean) as the S3 but put in an even bigger battery.

The launch was a bit crap but who cares, its the phone i'm interested in.
Looks very similar to S3 which is not a bad thing to be honest.
Unless you already own an S3 i dont think you would be too bothered.
    Specs and software look amazing.

What was the S3 like in terms of battery life. I never really accept opinions in professional reviews, id prefer the opinions of real world users.

We all have s3s in work, within 2 weeks 6 were broken. Covers are quite important imo, I see a lot of the no cover brigade walking around with borken screens. Fair play to people who can take care of it without a cover though! I'd have broken mine a dozen times by now. Pity as I love the phone design, unlike you :D

I really don't get the hate towards you, i can see what you are saying and it's a valid opinion. Some things were indeed cool, lots were gimmicky and the design is the same. People get too fanboyish and defensive. Even if you were biased towards iPhones, the points are valid points anybody could make.

I use it quite heavily, gps tracking my cycling to and from work, youtube, browsing, and it lasts about a day. More towards two if i'm not using it as much. eeing as it sits on my desk charging most the time it doesn't matter s long as it's a day I'm happy. Jellybean improved battery a lot for me.

I find it pretty good. I'd use the S3 a lot and would usually be at about 50% about now. I don't watch a lot of videos but I use it as an MP3 player and would use it a lot for internet/email etc so the screen would be on quite a bit.

The S4 has a 30% larger battery. The screen will more than likely eat up a bit more juice than the S3 but not a hell of a lot I'd imagine. The processor is harder to judge. We will more than likely be getting the Exynos processor. The Cortex A7 is the low power part of the chip but is still pretty damn powerful. It will be less powerful than the processor in the S3 but will use less power than it. For most uses bar the higher end stuff like complex games I reckon this is the processor that is active. For the more extreme heavy lifting it will switch to the A15 part of the processor. If it does use the A7 part for most uses then the new Exynos will use less power than the Exynos in the S3 with no real noticeable difference. Battery life on the S4 should be pretty damn good, better than the S3.

I spent 6 months jumping in and out tractors and general roughhousing in the family agri contracting business with my S2 with no cover and dropped it a few times aswell and not a bother to it. Got a nice clean indoors job for the winter and within a week id a crack going across the screen after dropping it there! Didnt get to find out how sturdy my S3 was as I lost it within 24 hours of getting it

Havent got around to reading the reviews of this phone yet so cant comment on the new features but in terms of design Im not too bothered that it hasnt changed as the S3/Note 2 template is a solid one. Samsung could potentially have alienated a lot more customers if the design had been radically changed and it didnt go down well and also the current design does help to reinforce some sort of brand recognition.

Not sure what you were expecting, we are kinda at a limit on size terms, any bigger and you'd need giant hands. Don't see how going to a higher resolution than 1080p would make a difference either, when video is up to 1080p.

I would have massive question marks about performance and battery, as you saw in the hands on quad A7's arnt that powerful and TouchWiz looks more demanding than ever. When those A15's kick in they are going to suck up juice unless their heavily downclocked.
DDR3 memory is power hungry as well.
Have to commend Samsung for putting that massive battery in but Exynos 5 is going to need a lot of work compared to the US S600 Galaxy S3s.

Because you shouldn't compare it to it's predecessor, you should compare it to what the competition are planning on releasing. The iPhone 5 got slammed cos it was way behind when compared to the competition

What I meant was, It's all been hyped up for months and it all passed like a damp squib. An official release date wasn't even announced nor the full specs from what I've read.
