I'm also extremely excited about the 'puzzle-like problem'.

What could we be dealing with?

    An enigma?

    A conundrum?

    An obscurity?

Heaven forbid it could be an anagram!

Squenix are going to revolutionise the gaming industry, no doubt.

Make sure to check out Pom Poko if its on. One of the best but most underviewed of all Ghibli films.

They do them once a year, but it was great to be able to catch up on their catalogue after Spirited Away was released. Channel / Film 4 provided my first intros to Totoro, Mononoke, Naussica, PP and many others.

Also, just remember: if its dubbed, turn it off :P

I think it must have been bout 4 years ago when I first watched Spirited Away subtitled on that ghibli season. It was the first Miyazaki that i saw and i loved it but it was titled in japenese and it took me like 6 months to find out what it was in called in english.
I NEED TO SEE POM POKO!

So I took to youtube in an attempt to catch a glimpse at the red ring that surrounds the player's character with a radius of about 3 meters. But I instead discovered an amazing unadvertised feature:

    CINEMATIC ACTION, YO!

I'd love to see Akira, Porco Rosso and Steamboy on the big screen.
How can we make this happen?

Akira was on but a few weeks ago in the IFI!

Never cared for Steamboy I must admit.

Thought I'd have Dark Souls beat this evening. Apparantly Gwyn just refuses to die though :(

You don't need parry for the whole game, and then...

I got hopelessly drunk while watching the Toy Show... as such I really don't remember it at all... don't remember going to bed either, woke up at 6am lying on my bed fully clothed.

I'm terrified to check my twitter timeline to see what crap I was saying while watching it last night.

Had to then drag myself out of bed this morning to the radio station to record an xmas special of my science show where we had kids in the studio to review science related toys.

Oh... also went to see the new Martin Scorsese movie, Hugo, today. It's sooooo... boring. It's supposed to be a kids movie, but I implore you, if you have kids don't inflict it on them! Apparently there's a videogame tie in for it due for release, I can't imagine what you'd do in it.

The new patch makes Dark Souls much, much easier for anyone still struggling in the early games. Basically renders farming irrelevant with the new soul gain levels.

And to o1s1n I can only express my understanding of your difficult situation. Don't know how the **** some of the lads found Gwyn easy. A right little bollocks.

Gwyn was a whore, took me a while to get the toming down but once I did he went down easy. Pity you can't take other players with. People are using tthat place as a high level PvP arena so you'll only get butchered on the way in human form.

Still around but studying like hell.

Probably going to do a degree after i get my A+ and then hopefully a job

If IT support is what you would like to do you'd be wasting your time doing a degree imo!

If you want to move up the ladder, you'd be better off using the 4 years doing more certifications and getting some work experience in the field!

A degree is great to have and will come in handy when you start to move up in the IT/Business world .

But if your just starting out I'd agree that more IT certification and work experience is what you really need (a MCSE/MCITP and CCNA is a good start and most places will want you to have these).
A degree or masters can be done while working in IT. I did my masters a good few years ago while working and the company paid for the whole thing.

But as someone who's worked in IT for nearly 12 years now and with things the way they are I wouldn't recommend to anyone to get into IT at all.

Agreed on your points. Although in some instances get the experience first and the paperwork later. In IT I think a degree really means sod all these days.

Elaborate on the quote though, I'm a bit  by that. I've been working in IT now for over 10 years and I personally think the IT jobs market in Ireland alone is looking a lot healthier now than it was 18 to 24 months ago.

That's what I said, get the degree later. But you will need certificates of some sort to get in the door.

A degree and masters come into there own when you start to leave the technical stuff behind and work on other things. It might not matter for the day to day stuff but when it comes to salary it does.

    On the whole IT thing.
If you had a kid would you really recommend they go into IT though?

Yes, the IT market has picked up in the last while but it's still not great and we have so many people with IT qualifications looking for work as it is.

Of course if a person has a gift technically and/or loves that type of stuff then sure go for it if that's what they want, don't let anyone stop you.

I'm talking about people who are undecided, people who are just starting out and looking to see what they want to do with their lives.

Maybe they have an interest many things as well as IT.

    Very true.

I wouldn't recommend it per se, but if that's what they wanted to do I wouldn't advise against it, maybe advise on what particular area they might want to look at I guess...

True. But it's still healthier than what it was given the current climate. If anything it's one of the biggest growth areas in terms of pools of work I think. I've had recruiters tailing me for work and I've shooed them away as I'm obviously already employed. That's not me stating "oh look at me, I'm great", I'm simply saying that there is work out there and in the IT sector particularly it appears a bit more plentiful than in other areas.

Fair enough, I was just a bit puzzled as to the previous post that was all. :)

I think it's definitely one of "healthier" fields to get into.

When we hear of 150 or 300 new jobs opening up in the news every so often,
    they're almost always IT related.

I mean what else out there is stronger and more secure at the moment?

    B.I.S. maybe?

If I was to recommend something to a kid, it would certainly be Software Development, as there's no shortage of work there that's for sure.

In fact most of the IT jobs advertised online are Software Development jobs.

I just wish I was more interested it, and my head was less prone to brain melt.

Anyone else catch Charlie Brooker's new show Black Mirror this evening?

It was pretty brilliant. Avoid spoilers at all costs if you haven't seen it yet, but definitely worth watching.

    4oD y'all: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/black-mirror/4od

I'll give it a watch. I usually like Charlie Brooker, but on the infrequent occasions I log into Twitter I'm usually met with a wall of nonsense posts from him. I'm usually too apathetic to unfollow him.

Think it's up on 4oD now which you can access in Ireland.

You'd swear Chris Morris also had a hand in it going by the tone of the thing.

Thought it was well executed, the acting was decent and the production was spot on.

It certainly got a big reaction from me, I just didn't take to the outcome of the plot though,
as you can see in the other thread!

Better off watching it before spoiling it by reading other threads.

Watched it there. Mostly interesting, if damaged by Brooker's fondness for overexplaining punchlines for those who may not have got them first time around.

    Woo Hoo, free Ninty stuff!
    Well kinda.

Registered Mario Land and Mario Kart and will now be getting Kid Icarus in 3D come January!
The Club Nintendo isn't particularly friendly though...

I was in a game shop, somewhere, and many of the preowned DS games still had their unsullied reg cards in, I was very tempted to raid them all, by getting my 8 year old to stage a diversion, and get myself some of the more serious goodies on the site.
Like those lovely Snes Wii pads, or the DSi backpack.

At the risk of potential abuse; I've never used those nintendo registration cards... do they expire? Are they worth it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

I'm just shy of 10,000 points and have some more reg cards lying around, not near expiry yet but nothing jumping out at me, apart from the characters figure that I'd probably ignore in a shop.

Wish they had those platinum rewards in Europe, registered all those points this year.

EDIT: Crap only noticed Game & Watch Ball on it now!

Just ordered Game & Watch: Ball there, great to see it hit the EU store :)
Also have Game & Watch Collection 1 on it which tempted me for a moment, but saw them all over Tokyo for about 10e each so they should be relatively easy to track down in the future

A lot. €100+ easily. Sealed? A couple of hundred on top of that I'd say.

There's a sealed one on eBay for just under €600. That's a ridiculous price I think.

its stupid the price that goes for. Such a good game though.

When it comes to SNES boxed collecting gets very expensive very fast I'd say

Of course, you do know that you won't get it until around March, 2014....
I ordered an XL Ninty club tee and got a medium at best tee about 4 months later, my Yoshi keyring never made it... :(
