Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Just saw this...

    http://www.breakingnews.ie/entertainment/mhmhidsnojoj/

Irish model Katie French is in a critical condition in a hospital in Navan.

It has been reported that she had been spending the weekend at a friends Co house in Meath when she collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

    Wonder what was wrong?

I hope she makes a quick recovery, poor Katy.

Not another publicity stunt I hope!

Seriously though I hope she's okay, criticial?? Hopefully she'll be alright.

don't know - it was on rte radio one news and on aertel. presume it would not be in the news if it was just a cold and if it was a car accident or something i presume that would be reported. She is too young for a heart attack i reckon. in the absence of solid info god knows what people will think. get well soon anyway

Yeah I was surprised to hear it on RTE news during Morning Ireland this morning tbh. It's also on the front page of the Irish Independent. Seems that there's no details available other than that she's in critical condition.

    A hospital in Navan?

    She must hate that.

Maybe that's why they're not releasing anymore info at the moment.

This girl is such a media whore. Every week she is in the papers, why?! I hope this isn't a publicity stunt. Her ex was so gay looking, bet 'the breakup' exclusive all over the papers was to get publicity for the 2 of them.

Last weekend she was in the papers saying used to do coke, wouldn't be suprised if the collapse was due to drugs.

Whatever she does for a living, she hasn't hurt anyone and she could be in a really bad state so back off a little until we know more.

Why? I would be bitching about her if she was not in a critical condition so why change just cause she is sick.

Fair enough, I just think it's bad form if she's so ill...she's not a bad person, she hasn't done anything wrong...

Don't know why I'm surprised that she did drugs, just thought she had a bit more cop on than that...but not a big shock really....anyway hope she pulls through.

Just to be clear - in the interview she gave last week she said that she had taken cocaine in the past but does not do so anymore. There is no indication right now why she is in hospital so folks please don't speculate too wildly about drug use, mmmkay? (Not directing this at you Clare Bear, it's a general thing cos this could easily turn into a legally dodgy thread).

Side issue: This thread has already had almost 800 views in the four hours since it was first posted. Additionally, the Celeb & Showbiz forum has had around 30-50 people viewing the forum at any time that I've checked this morning. Right now there are 45 people viewing, which makes it third only to After Hours and PI. (Note: The stats are indicative rather than perfect, plus the figures for some forums aren't shown)

Now the forum generally gets pretty high viewership but this would seem to be exceptionally high and I'm guessing that this Katy French story is a big reason for that. As much as we give out about her there's clearly a massive interest in her.

According to the Herald (I just died a little inside), she was suffering a severe headache when the ambo was called.

I was in the doctor's surgery this morning, and I was surprised the 3 other mothers in the waiting room had never heard of her! They must have been on a desert island or something.
I was just reading about her yesterday in the magazine supplement to the Daily Mail, and in it she said she had taken cocaine in the past, but doesn't now and was warning others to stay away from it. There was also photos of her as a toddler in the Star on Friday (I think), and she was SO gorgeous.
Ah, I have a fondness for her especially as she did some work for Goal recently in Calcutta and she seems a pleasant girl.
I suppose nobody's too young to have a heart attack. All we can do is wait until there's further developments. Let's hope she's recovers very soon.

Well I only clicked on this thread to find out who the feck Katie French is to be honest. I can honestly say I have never heard of her but then again, I generally avoid the type of mags that crow on about 'celebs' that aren't actually 'famous' for anything at all. It's amazing that anyone in Ireland who appears in the Sunday Independent society pages or weekend magaznine is suddenly a 'celeb'. Even when I do see column inches devoted to these people I tend to skip past them quickly. Possibly a fault in my personality!
Ah, I have a fondness for her especially as she did some work for Goal recently in Calcutta and she seems a pleasant girl.
Too cynical of me to say that the charity work was probably suggested by a PR agency?

Aye, let's hope that she will recover soon. The daughter of a colleague of mine recently had a heart attack, she's only 29...3 years younger than me!!

It doesn't. Just said she had headaches.

Folks I've already made this very clear - enough of the spurious allegations. Now I haven't seen the Herald yet but nothing I've read has confirmed anything about either a heart attack or a drug-induced illness so stick to what's known. The next person to break this will be banned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

Cocaine is a well known link to heart attacks in young people.

    So is smoking and cholesterol.

This wouldn't be in the news if it wasn't out of the ordinary.

Of course it would. Read Stargals post about the stats for this thread. She's a "celebrity" (it makes me shudder to use that term for her), so anything and everything about her is news worthy, especially when papers have nothing else to report.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,535 ✭✭✭Radharc na Sleibhte

I don't particularly like or dislike the girl, but however she ended up in a "critical condition", I hope she pulls through.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭kelle

Sorry, Stargal, but I made my statement because Newbie 74 had queried it! Wasn't trying to make an allegation of any kind.

She probably just needs a good dinner....

    That'll sort her out...

But I do hope she is okX x x x

cool by association; I hope you extend your best wishes to the hundreds of less fortunate people who take ill every day. Guess some people still live in hope that they will get to meet their heroes in person and recall how they wished them the best when they were ill all while their hero looks down on them with in amazement at the loyalty of their lesser beings

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,914 ✭✭✭✭tbh

or she could be the type of person who would post to wish anyone well in a similar position. You've not started any threads about anyone else, so how would you know? this is the celebrity forum after all - cop yourself on.

Maybe a wee bit harsh but i can fully understand their feelings about Miss French. She is a media whore and will go to any lengths to get her puss photographed and in a newspaper or on tv. I'm sick to death of seeing her orange tinged, tanned to within an inch of her life, face looking out at me when i open a paper or magazine.

I did not see it myself but i was told today that there was a picture of her in yesterdays Sunday World getting out of a car at her birthday. She is apparently going commando and the picture leaves nothing to the imagination with her privates are on parade.... Now she knew full well there would be photographers there (as she normally tips them off herself) so she obviously planned to whole thing knowing it would get her in the papers again. Its all just a bit sickening at this stage that the girl is that desperate for publicity. No doubt if she does recover it will generate further column inches for her and lead to even greater exposure of her. She is a pretty pathetic figure in my eyes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 848 ✭✭✭MayMay

I suppose you have a point alright Fozzie. I just don't really read the papers she's in so I suppose I'm not as sick of her as a lot of people are that are forced to see her mug every day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

Its unfortunate that shes ill, but tbh I dont feel any pity or sorrow for her. There are ICU's all over the country that are full of people, who's stories are never told. Whether she pulls through or not, I really dont care. One less media whore tbh. Guarantee you the "bouncing back" book will hit the shelves next xmas, if she does pull through.

i hardly surprised she is ill, if she was quoted correctly in the papers last week.

She apperently said that she has had a kidney infection all week and was taking antibotics, so she would be taking it easy on the drink for her birthday.

She should not be drinking at all, if she was taking medication.

Thats according to the The Mirror, the day after her party.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭NAGGIE03

Obviously wouldnt like to see anything bad happening to her but it all sounds like its her own doing! guarantee in two or three weeks she ll be posing with da docs who saved her life and pleding a life of abstinence and celibacy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,268 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

So she's actually in the news for something more important than being herself?

*those were my exact words when I heard Princess Di was in a car crash. Wonder if the same jinx can hit twice?

Don't read rags then. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

So what? Who's to blame anyway? Katy French who wants the attention or the media who give it to her... or the morons who read their papers/magazines?

I would agree that she's not exactly top of my respectability list as she has no discernable talent to speak of. But generally models don't - all they're really supposed to do is look pretty. That's their job.

Has it ever occurred to you that the reason Katy French is in all these magazines and papers is because people like you are buying them?

I know very little about Katy French. Maybe she's bitchy and bad natured - but it would seem, Fozzy Bear, that so are you. I don't really see the difference between bitchy celebrity types and the idiots that read about them (and then consequently bitch about "having" to read about them)

well, she'd hardly admit to being a coke fiend, would she?*

*not that i have any reason to believe she is, but an 'i don't indulge in *insert illegal activity*' statement in the press is meaningless.

Funny, I read the Times and I don't remember seeing her in it. Eyes must have selectively passed over the picture/article. I have a habit of not reading stuff that I'm not the least bit interested in. You must really have a pathetic chip on your shoulder to be calling a woman you don't even know a 'daft bint' and a 'muppet'. Classy!

I heard Katy French being interviewed on the Drivetime Programme on 2fm a couple of months ago. I have to say I was blown away by how eloquent she was - especially for a 23 year old. Like a lot of people I had seen her pictures in the Sunday Independent, Evening Herald etc etc and had built up a negative image of her in my mind. Hearing her speak, listening to her views I had to admit that my preconceptions of her were way off base.

As a model, the better known she is the more she's going to be booked for modeling assignments. It's in her best interest to have people talking about her and to be seen in the papers - it's her career. She's been incredibly savvy if you think about it she has created a talkability factor around her - we're all on this forum talking about her now.

The RTE news at 9 featured Katy as their fourth ranked story -which is significant. It's significant in that the news editors at RTE felt that the people of Ireland would be interested in this story and sadly, I would speculate, that Katy is in a gravely serious condition they know about and are currently unable to report.

If she was very serious, she wouldn't be kept in Navan.

Unless of course, there's no hope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

I don't know the girl, I don't particularly like her media persona, but I do feel very sorry for her family if she is gravely ill, and would hope that she recovers. Whoever she is in the media (remember, most people in the media construct a public persona for themselves), she's still someone's daughter, sister, niece, friend - those people deserve a bit of respect too. I can't imagine the fact that anyone in my family was gravely ill being plastered all over the media would give me any comfort, should the situation arise. If she has chosen to court the media as her main means of providing herself with a living, so be it, but surely all the ill wishes being tossed around as her illness is discussed will do more harm than good should she NOT pull through?

If you want to speculate on her personality, perhaps doing so might be more prudently reserved until she's declared well enough to not care about what you think, again? Otherwise your barbs or frustration at who she portrays herself to be may merely add to the suffering of those to whom she is someone dear. Just my two cents. (Keep the change.)
