Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I'm sure Liberties is fine, it is a proper PLC college, it should give you plenty of opportunities to scope out NCAD as well if that's where you want to go with your portfolio.

anybody doing culinary arts in dit or know anybody doing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,137 ✭✭✭experiMental

debz929292:: bah... it all depends on what area of art and design you want to do. I know that some secondary schools do excellent design foundation courses. If you want to do industrial, interaction or architectural design, definitely go to these courses.

Otherwise, you've probably made the right choice.

Actuarial and Financial Studies or Economics and Finance in UCD anyone?

I'm especially interested in the former, but not necessarilly looking to continue Actuary beyond college, but rather going into banking, so in that regard how much finance is there on the course?
    Seconded

Alternatively, does anyone know what kind of degrees you would need to be a Quantitive Analyst in London etc?

Anyone doing or thinking of doing Computer Science?

I have the BA in it down as my first choice.. Seems really interesting! I didn't want to do a BSc as I wanted to study a broader field of stuff instead of 100% in-depth technical stuff.. anyone else considering this course? I think Maynooth has a BA in CompSci aswell

    Anyone studying veterinary UCD?
I've done work exoerience etc, but am having some last minute doubts about my suitability to the course. Has anyone else been in the position where chemistry was not their strong subject in school and has gone on and done vet?
I find, basically, that my brain just isn't suited to learning chemistry, even though I do think some of it's interesting. However, I absolutely love biology, and find it really easy to grasp. From looking at course structure,I can't really see many areas of the course that don't appeal to me, but,in your opinion, do you think that the course puts a lot of emphasis on chemistry, which I might struggle with?
Really appreciate any help, esp. before July 1st (CAO deadline)!

Should get my course: Logistics and SCM (Supply Chain Management) at 280 points (2006) - looks interesting enough, and there's a demand for workers right now by all accounts.

Hard enough to find info on it tho - aside from the letter DIT sent me and the Qualifax site.

Management, Transport Systems, Information Systems, Quantitative Analysis, Economics, HRM, Financial Accounting, Commercial & Transport Law, Operations Management, Electronic Business, Strategic Management, Applied Supply Chain Management & Cases etc.

    Hey everyone

I studied dietetics in DIT , just a warning for people who may have put it down I would really advise that you should have a strong interest in Home economics. I have always been interested in science and health but found this course didnt interest me. Mainly my problem was that I just wasnt interested enough in food to carry me through, there are chemistry and biokogy lectures but there are also cooking classes.

Also if you are not familiar with DIT go have a look at Kevin street before you apply....

Having said this most of people stay on in the course and are still just as interested in it as they had been.....basically make sure you are interested in food!

Sent you a PM, hope you can clarify something for me :)

i was wondering does anyone do/want to do/know anything about HUMAN GENETICS in TRINITY COLLEGE?

Especially I would really love to know what they do after they graduate or is it one of those science degrees where you dunno what to do when you are fininshed?

    Any advice much appreciated!!! ;)

Genetics which you enter via Science TR071 and Human Genetics are very similar courses (almost identical). The majority of graduates go into further research (PhDs) or do Masters. Some work in the industry and some do something completely different (work in banks, teaching). None of the science degrees are professional qualifications so you make what you want out of them.

    Thanks, this really helps.
Do you know if afer this course you can actually get involved in genetic screening, councelling etc, ie this medical-related stuff, or is that doctors only?

If you do it in Maynooth, you'll have to take 2 science subjects in 1st year. I've a friend going into 2nd year, and my brother did it years ago. It's quite hard, apparently? Trinity is the only one that needs Honours Maths.

I.T in NUIG for anyone thats interested!

Very small course, though there is a very big quota for places, there were 11 of us at the start of last year, 4 have left, myself included!

Hours aren't bad at all, I don't remember exactly what it was, I think it was like 13 or 14 hours plus a couple of labs! Late starts and early finishes every day bar Tuesday.

Maths is where most of us seemed to struggle cause you have to take honours maths, which is a pretty different kettle of fish to Leaving Cert honours maths! Programming and Algorithms we're fine, enjoyable even! I wasn't a big fan of Electronic Engineering, but you only have to do that up to Christmas when you swap it for Physics!

The course can be done in 3 streams, with a language, with business, or with a next generation technology (ie. Artificial Intelligence, Medical Informatics, Scientific Computing and Semantic Web). With a Next Gen technology you do all four in 1st year and specialise in one after that!

I found it a good course bar the maths, you gotta keep an eye on your assignments though or they'll quickly pile up on you! Socially its fine aswell, easy to make friends given it was such a small class, out of the 11 of us I think it was 5 that were mature students. Just 2 of us were from Galway too, if that makes any difference to you!

I highly recommend NUIG, great University! Galway is a fantastic place to live too, excellent nightlife and a really unique city!

    Hope this helps someone!
It does :) Wouldn't mind having any sort of a lie in after five years of all-too-early mornings. Curse public transport ...

My bfriend is going to 2nd year in Computer Science in NUIM as well. Apparently he finds lecturers not that good, especially for maths as i heard they have some guy teaching who speaks half german and half english :) Quite fun, but sometimes could be a bit dissapoining closer to the exams. :(

I my self is very interested in Economics and Finances in UCD, the course went up to 510 this year.. and the average is about 580... only top 35 students i think get in.. gosh.. i was hoping and planning to go to that course since 2nd year now :( and now unfortinatly starting to consider somethin esle.. would be happy to hear some suggestions.

aw and as well could somebody tell me about the Commerce in UCD ? heard its quite good, but dont have anybody that i know of who goes there :(

hm and another thing, is there any business courses that involve japanese as well ? From readin the forums there is one in DCU, is it worth doing?
Again would be veeeryy happy to hear some opinions :)

Ya i'm aiming for something in business aswell.

As for japanese theres a business course with japanese in UL for 450 points, know someone who is doing it actually there and they love it but its tough.

I hope to do commerce with chinese in UCC next year myself.
Really want to do business with a language and chinese sounded appealing.
