Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

just had one of the busiest weeks of my life so wasnt really on at all for the last week, its only going to get busier so i may end up closing my account

Why would you close you're account here just because things are busy ? when things are not so busy you will obviously want to banter and associate yourself to the community, and if you closed you're account you would have to start a new one again. I cannot understand why people close their accounts with sites like this because they will use them again as is a fact.

Not really, if you stop posting, never log on you will forget about it in a week.

I think you should report a post if it is ott completely and is not picked up on by the moderator and someone is being targeted on the thread. That said, you have to take it with a pinch of salt or just ignore anyone who you simply disagree with. Sometimes it is easier said than done but it is better than spoiling a thread with an argument. It is a new thing to have the close account feature. I think it is good to be able to close the account if you just can't find the time to go on threads but it is only rarely that someone has to be so definite about closing an account. Just my own opinion. What do ye think?

But my question is the immensity of boards.ie in all relations to the amount of different threads and interconnection to information from here is excellent so I can't imagine a long term poster quiting. it also keeps communication close for every person no matter what country they are in. well unless thay are mods and just need a break from the job, I can understand that but for a user, this site is and has many many interactions of all kinds of topics which is amazing and which is also used in a very extreme way (as in the amount of members).

People get bored or they simply have other things in their life that does not include posting on line. Quite a few long term posters have left.

I wonder how many of us Feb 1998ers still log on regularly...

Feb 1998 was the date Cloud imported the users from the last software in (I think!), so the first 300 or so of us date from then.

As someone who lurks the prison forum a little I noticed quite a few older members getting banned over the past year.

Boards started perma banning people who had a lot of infractions and a lot of the older members who had picked up infractions and temp bans over the years got the boot.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056423660

    Example

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056455070

I've been here from around '04, I lost my account in the great hacking scandal, however, that kind of attitude to posters makes me just want to pack this place in for good, although it may be taken out of my own hands as my infraction list is fairly long.

I would say a lot re-reg'd or lurk. I know of 5 posters, big posters in the relevant forums who've closed their accounts and started new ones.

You never really leave boards..... EVAR!!!

This is my third account, the first was created on 9/11, when I wanted to respond to the thread that day. The second was created a few years later when I couldn't remember the password for the original one. I then closed that one last October and started this one.

Why do some people close their accounts and start new ones? Just curious. Apart from the forgetting password reason?

I'm only posting to see what my join date is.

EDIT: 7 years! I know after joining initially, I left my account idle for a couple of years so I didn't really see the Boards of Old-ish.

    2006, guess that makes me middle-aged :o

These threads always seem to bring out a few pre-2000 regs with no more than a few dozen posts between them. In stark contrast to the newbies of less than 6 months, well on their way to 10k + posts.

    Quality over quantity

I think it was 04-06 when it all started to fall apart, for some reason it suddenly got kinda popular among college students and then more noobs followed. There was a time when making 40 posts in one day wasn't common and was lightly discouraged as spam, now you see users who registered 10 months ago with post counts in the high thousands. ****'s crazy wack.

    You're making 44leto uncomfortable :o

Oldest registered I believe, would be Cloud's trial account. Oldest user? I've heard of someone aged close enough to 80 posting...this was a few years ago though.

About dial up. And littered with misspellings. I can only assume I used to type with my face back then.
