Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

OK, I took the 5k off again. I'll try again on a less contentious course. It sounds from what Chivito is saying that I wouldn't have broken 20 if the course wasn't short. I'll try again after the Race Series half! :)

Give Rathfarnham a lash. It's very fast and definitely not short...

I might. And to think I thought I'd never have to run a 5k again ...

You did sub-20 on a measured course. There's no consensus that it was short is there?

Hold on now, and obviously sincere apologies if I've contributed to this decision, but I have that for the last 0.05 in miles is equal to 80.4672 meters and I covered that in 0:17 who at maths can then figure out that you, if in fact the course was short, did/didn't make it?

I guess if you are happy all is fine then take the PB. If not, then have another go at it. Something similar happened to Krusty when he broke 16 for the first time. He ended up binning the time, and got it for real soon after.

What clowns measure a course wrong btw? They don't measure the cash they receive from each entrant wrong that's for sure. Such amateurish stuff.

Apologies all for the thread derailment! I'll just have another go. I've been trying to break 20 for ages, so when I do it I want to do it right. No big deal! :)

You broke 20 on Tuesday and no doubt you will do it again soon!!!

There's lots of controversy about St Anne's park run too, which never measures more than 4.85 km on my garmin, but garmins are far from infallible especially with lots of corners and interference as everyone says on the docks.

How do you know it was measured wrong?

I don't. I'm going by what others have said here.

And it's a general comment about courses that get measured short. Seems to happen a bit.

    The real question is:

Why didn't you post your time in the 10 round numbers thread, rather than the one that's specific to females when the 5k time is the same? ;)

Because I'm trying to fill the whole row, or as much as possible, and the 5k is the only one I've a chance of doing on the unisex table.

Not sure what the point is here? The organisers didn't measure the course themselves, they had it measured and certified by the relevant pros.

So organisers hold no responsibility whatsoever if their race is measured incorrectly?

I dont know. Would you hold yourself responsible if you hired a qualified plumber, paid the going rate, and your sink leaked afterwards?

A big cop out. If I planned to hire out the use of the sink to somebody after the work was done, yes.

People are paying the organisers for a good service. That includes a fully accurate course. If it isn't accurate then they take responsibility. It is their responsibility to their "clients" to ensure everything is done right, regardless of who they contract to do it. That is how business works.

I think this is the healthiest the table has ever looked! Well done all!
Will any of you try any of the other distances before the year is out and how do you feel about achieving them?

I might give the mile a go before the year is out but I'd say the rest of them are beyond me.

Huge congratulations BG, Feena and Helen, that's incredible to be sub 1hr40! And DG really knocked it out of the park today (of *course*)...

Brilliant performance from aquinn too (I stalked for that ...), bet you'll be on that table very very soon :)

Wrecked.com but v v happy with my 1:33:34 today. Very hard work, higher early effort than I would have liked but didn't fall off the pace too much. Not too sure how many others I will get this year; the 10k would be nice but don't think I'll be allowed to squeeze in a marathon or 400m (who knows?!) just for fun :D

Huge congrats to BG, HelenAnne and especially FeenaM who is going to be filling this table up in no time next year.

BG: stop selling yourself short, these are all yours, ok?! :D

When they say everyone welcome do they really mean it? I'd like to give track a go, but would be doing well to do a 7 minute mile.

They really do! Last year I did the mile on two occasions and they divided it into two races: sub 6 and 6+ mins with plenty of us in the latter group. Very friendly and welcoming set up.

What did you go through the first mile in? I ran 19:47 and went through the first mile in 5:35!!! Not sure if the marker was in the wrong spot, or if it was down to my incredibly poor ability to pace distance races.

I'm not v happy with my pacing either:

    6.28, 6.41, 6.18, 0.38

Mile one was about what I wanted to run (I was aiming for about 6.30, 6.30, 6.20 - but I know I'll need to go faster in future to be sure), but I don't know what happened in mile 2! I know there was a drag, but I was concentrating on keeping the pace up, and I was passing so many people that I thought I was doing ok. I should have looked at my watch more.

Well done, you! You must have been neck-and-neck with my clubmate, she ran 19.47 as well.
