Marky is really perky tonight, more than he was last night. But that stupid Yellow girl is still hanging around, waiting for him to nod off, so she can bully him!! I think my mother has a spare birdcage at home, I really want to separate them (but keep them side by side in the room) until Marky is better. They would fret massively if completely separated, when I am doing Marky's foot creams he screams blue murder (really should talk to the neighbours downstairs about that...) and Yellow sits in the doorway very frightened and concerned for him.

I dread the day I have to make the call for Marky, he's 11 years old, he's my little boy, little star. But if, in a week, the Fucidin isn't working, my mother had some vet friends suggesting other things, but if he's in so much pain, I can't leave him like that. I thought Yellow was going to die first, because she has been having trouble flying lately, and already decided I was going to get a young male bird and call him Kurt (I wasn't allowed call my horse Kurt when I was 14, so, haha Ma!). But now, if Marky does have to go.... I'm going to get a new male bird and call him Bumble.

    Marky has bumblefoot btw.

My little star is blinking out.

My little bird is lying in my hand. I can't do anything except sit here holding him until vets open. I love my little Marky so much but there is nothing I can do for him now. Goodnight little one.

So sorry to hear that :( sounds like you gave him a very happy long life though, so hopefully you can take some comfort from that.

I'm sorry to hear that. Thankful that you are there to hold him though, a lucky bird to have someone who cares so much.

I'm getting shivers from this. I really hope you can get to the vet in time. So sorry to hear.

Marky is still with us. If I'd been bringing him to the vet it would have been to have the deed done, as besides antibiotics there isn't anything to do for him right now. He's only been on the antibiotics two days, I just couldn't give up on him yet. The foot is terrible though. Want to cry every time I look at it.

Hang tough Marky! I hope he gets better soon... :'(

    Hope Marky feels better soon.

My daughters friend has the most gorgeous white fluffy cat, he's a lovely boy and sooo hansome....someone hit him with a car and left him on the road on Friday.
He lost his tail and has a broken leg in 3 places and had surgery on his rear, but he is alive and will heal.
He never goes far (accross the road to his kitty buddy is his usual trip)and its a quiet country lane with no traffic except those that live up there, you would hope a neighbour would tell you or at least move him off the road if they hit him.:(
The poor girl is heart broken, but hopefully he'll be fine.

Cream's pumpkin obsession is back, he claims the 'lid' and uses it as a lollipop :)

I hope the kid's cat is ok, sounds like a narrow escape with her life, poor cat, poor kid!

Marky is still as perky as can be hoped, but the fucidin seems to be doing bog all for his foot, but most worrying is that tiny cysts are starting to grow on his good foot, so off to a specialist exotic animal vet tomorrow. I just can't bring myself to keep torturing him with creams when it's obvious it hurts him so much and isn't actually doing the job.

Marky has GOUT! No wonder the antibiotics were doing nothing. He's got a new medicine and has to be seen again in ten days, it's a trial and error thing, all the while weighing up his quality of life in the meantime. The relief is great, mostly because I know it's not an infection, and the other bird is not going to catch it, either. He's not out of the woods but he's not on death row either. Moving him into the tiny cage for his treatment should help with his pain too, no more climbing/falling.

Thank goodness you got another diagnosis! That's better news than first thought. Gout at least is manageable. Hope Marky's soon on the road to recovery.

My poor Minnie is really having a tough time at the minute. She has hip dysplasia which limits her, then she went and hurt one of her front paws, after 3 weeks rest it was no better so we ( me and my vet) decided an X-ray was needed. When they did her pre-op bloods her liver results came back on the very low side, due to her meds she has this test every 4 months or so, this result was a real deterioration on her last one which wasn't great. So after more tests she had a liver scan today and my blinking vet is off sick so I have no idea what they found :(

The poor girl is only 6/7 and she is really not well at all. A 5 minute walk wears her out totally and she just mopes around looking sad. I feel so helpless!

On the positive side, she is still eating and drinking and does still like the occasional play with the youngster of the gang :)

Poor Minnie! It's so tough when the medication that makes them feel good is doing damage in the longterm :( We had a lab with hip dysplasia who lived to 14 though his walking by then was a bit wobbly. My gran's dog Prince eventually succumbed to organ failure after 7 years on steroids for his awful exzema (sp?) too. But better for the dog to have a shorter, pleasant life on meds that will eventually be their end, than suffer needlessly for years. You have my deepest sympathies and hoping Minnie is happy and relaxed. In all the fuss and bother with my sick budgie I even forgot that my old Labbrador Xsara was put to sleep this evening, my mother rang when I was taking Marky down to the vet and I was so worried he was going to be destroyed I just forgot about the Zaz! She was almost 15 though, and had checked out mentally some time ago.

Poor Minnie, hope she is ok, my dogs friend James was on meds for liver failure on and off for 5 years(along with loads of other stuff), he was quite good right up to the end 2 weeks ago, and went down hill in the space of two days. He lived a pretty normal waggy life, food restrictions helped, he was 14 in the summer, so not a bad age.

Bugese, sorry to hear about Xsara, hope Marky is showing signs of recovery now.

On the positive side, I think our family is gaining a member...Mouse AKA lightning Shroedinger Zazzles the third, looks to be staying put!
This is why I don't foster, I would be over run!
Gonna stick a few pic's up later in the photo thread, she's turning into a real beauty.

Great so far as I live in the middle of nowhere, but the people across the road usually get fireworks for Halloween night and new years, so we'll see how we get on tonight! Cream did not appreciate being dressed up in a baby grow though!

Anyone else have pet costumes? :D

I think cream looked to be enjoying the attention :D

No pet costumes, Harley has his thundershirt on, but that doesn't count. Phoe already looks and sounds like a little gremlin, so he doesn't need one.

Ah they're all in the wars lately. Poor Bailey was shaking last night in the vets but settled and had a lie down after a few mins and took loads of treats so a big difference! I decided to try him with the Thundershirt on Sunday morning at the vets and again last night and it helped relax him so getting our money's worth! He cried when they took off the dressing and cleaned the wound so it must be really sore - he never cried or showed any fear/discomfort like that after his surgeries! Poor baba!

Oh no poor Bailey, I must have missed this. What happened?

    Such a little sweetie. :)

Actually surprisingly grand. I havent heard one banger go off yet (im sure that'll change tonight). It used to start about 2 weeks before Halloween in previous years but its been so quiet this year.

I've had to lock all my cats into a bedroom in case they slip out the door when I answer trick-or-treaters. I can hear furious scratching at the door already - they're going to be like demons by tonight. Happy Halloween = 5 furious cats and 1 neurotic dog:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,411 ✭✭✭ABajaninCork

I've just battened down the hatches. I hate Halloween anyway, and don't answer the door to anyone. We'll have our hands full tonight trying to calm down the dog who goes crazy barking at callers!

    Nurofen at the ready!!
