One thing I love is quality packaging on an album when I buy a physical copy. Rhymesayers are pretty good in this respect and are continuing with the Brother Ali album sleeve/package.

    Here's a video of it.

Xzibit's new music video, different but I like some parts :)

    Wow... that's terrible.

I mean, the message is good, it's interesting subject matter but the execution is terrible.

Title track from Lecrae's mixtape he dropped hosted by Don Cannon a while back, production form the likes of Boi-1da, Street Symphony and some guy called 9thWonder and even a feature from Malice (now No Malice) from Clipse.

Some serious beats on the tape, lyrics won't be everyone's cup of tea but truth is Lecrae is probably a better M.C. than your favourite rapper and sold more record than them in the last 2 years too.

You can download it free on datpiff.

His album was released the other day and has a feature from BIG K.R.I.T. and Novel.

This record i'm tryin to talk @freddiegibbs into leaking might be the record of the year…. ****s ILL!!

    Hopefully Freddie listens to him.

That Xzibit tune is fúcking insane, the heavy metal style suits his voice incredibly well but it's not really necessary, i imagined a very bassy tune with a heavy drum loop when i saw Travis was gonna be featured, not a sliptnot tribute. :p

There aren't many better artists than X for making tunes that you can put on in the car to make the whole thing shake.

Nice. That track with Malice is great and the joint will Braille (you heard the Beautiful Eulogy album? Its dope). I'll pick up the album when I get paid.

Lecrae is dope, this is probably my favourite track by him

    Such an amazing song.

This just reminded me of something. Man WTF happened to Aftermath records. It was one of the best labels last decade and they had a lot of great rappers on the label but most of them walked due to the label sitting on their music. Busta Rhymes, Raekwon, Rakim, Bishop Lamant all walked due to creative differences or falling out with Jimmy Iovine
and now Slim Da monsters on twitter talking about leaving the label too due to 50 cent.

Then the whole Detox crap and Dre saying hes retiring from Detox for a few years. I just hope they don't ruin Kendrick Lamar cause his section 80 album last year was one of the best released in 2011.

Bottom line is imo if you haven't a chance of being commercially successful your not given a chance on aftermath/interscope to release an album. Bishop has bucket loads of talent same with rakim etc but they dont have the same commercial presence of an eminem or 50 cent.

Aftermaths sales record is pretty impressive, I think all their albums have gone at least gold with the majority of them being several times platinum including a few diamonds from em.

Thats why i was skeptical of lamars move to the label but his talent/momentum and commercial potential is proving to be too strong to resist hence his album coming a lot sooner than previous aftermath artists were made to wait.

on slim da mobster he's an idiot and a 50 wanna be, constantly talking about him on twitter. His manager is sha money xl of g unit, he was always going to be dropped, he's no where near the level expected of an aftermath artist.

Captain Murphy drops another song and continues to confuse everyone as to who he really is.

The Batman sample (with "Captain Murphy" shoved in there) at the very end of the song is brilliant.

Ghostface Killah will be releasing his latest project 12 Reasons to Die on November 20 through RZA's newly launched Soul Temple Records. Additionally, RZA will serve as the LP's executive producer, and producer/composer Adrian Younge will create the album's music.

In addition to the album, Ghostface will release an adjoining comic with the project. The comic, a second for the legendary Staten Island emcee, will follow a month after the album's release.

    2 new albums announced:

Gensu Dean x Planet Asia - Abrasions

Apollo Brown x Guilty Simpson - Dice Game
Mello Music Group is ecstatic to announce Dice Game, a 16 track collaborative album between Detroit’s Guilty Simpson & Apollo Brown. The former’s work with Madlib and Dilla already establish him as one of the current greats on the mic and the latter’s heralded music with OC and his own group, The Left, hint towards a similar path in his own canon. The Motor City titans join forces to create an unabashedly hardcore record, without catering to the club or radio.

The full-length album is rife with aggressive content that does not sacrifice quality and musicality. This is music for OG’s, for heads who hunger for that quality street music before the genre by-and-large made a caricature of itself. Though the block may be getting icy by release November 13th, stay on the corner with a few veterans and shoot a Dice Game.

Dice Game has been given out to a few industry people so far, and the feedback so far has been excellent.

this is quality from fab, "So NY" 1st single from his new album and the 1st response to that idiot lil wayne's new york comment.

    the whole verse is dope.
    [Intro]:
Best things come to those who wait
It’s time to go get it

    [Hook]
I said I’m so New York, Weezy probably don’t like me (x3)
    La-dada-da-da-da-daaaa

For my city, emphasis on my city
You got to go to L.A. if your looking for Diddy
You gotta check C.T. if your looking for Fitty
Niggas in Paris, but what about the city?
I’m so N.Y. like the folks who make Playstation
Hope ya’ll enjoyed your summer vacation
I been on that medicine, all y’all sick patients
Time to come for Sugar Hill, word to Ray Nathan
I’m coming for the belt and I stay H’ing
Coming for your Idol, word to Clay Aiken
Pause- in case they take it the wrong way
And bitch nigga always take it the wrong way
Still spitting, I’m the city’s saliva
Want the keys to it like the designated driver
Sometimes I listen to my old rhymes, it feels like I had the ****ing keys the whole time
Ain’t gotta give me credit, I take cash
    (Broooklyn) Yeah we take cash
Those old niggas trying to live off their old bodies
These young niggas think they killing ****, with no bodies
But this ain’t about old school, new school
Cause my old school look better than your new school
And I drive my new school like my old school
Just to wave at the teachers from my old school
In Flex We Trust I let him do my old schools
The girl used to brain me, you love my old school
Stop playing, you boys grew up on me
I fed you, burped you, until you threw up on it
I gave these niggas style, they never had a Clue
But they heard the freestyles yea they had the Clues
Been doing this a while, probably had your boo
She probably came back had a little attitude
Gun charge, oh yea I had like two
My black lawyer beat them, never had a Jew
I done had a few, never use, had them new
So I’m Pac, in a white suit, I Ain’t Mad At You
No Diddy, no Dupri, no Dr. Dre
No Cash Money from Baby, and no Rocs from Jay
And I’m still here, I’m still here!
I’m so New York that I’m still here.

Can be listened to in full on this youtube clip that Rhymesayers released:

I'm quite enjoying it so far, I was a bit hesitant as I though he is getting too preachy lately. But so far so good.

I've heard good reviews of it. I'm waiting for my physical copy to come from Fifth Element before I listen. When it comes to my favourite artists I like to have the actual thing in my hand on the first listen and flick through the booklet :D

Its tough though cos they send a download link on the release date and the temptation may get the better of me. But I got that Diggaz With Attitude cd yesterday so that should hopefully keep me going!

He is also giving the album away if you make a donation (albeit, I think its a monthly $10 donation) to 89.3 The Current which is a public radio station in Minneapolis which I think is a nice touch.

EDIT: Success, It came today. Gonna wait til I have the time to listen properly later this evening. Its got some beautiful packaging, like the video you posted, They've outdone themselves again, and mine is autographed :D Still won't be as prized as my personalised signed Undisputed Truth one that he kindly done at a show because he knew I travelled over for 2 shows in England, his photographer recognised me in Manchester from the London show and said if he didn't come out to meet the fans after he would take me backstage to meet him, he did come out and the guy pulled him aside and introduced me to him. They are all really genuine dudes. Sorry for rambling, I'm a bit excited.

How's it going lads been away for a while travelling and over the last few months my iTunes has been neglected so trying to get up to speed now, the only albums I've downloaded over the last few months have been Channel Orange and Life Is Good..has there been any othet notable hip-hop releases that you folks would recommend I listen to? Feel very out of touch at the moment, trying to catch up :)

Welcome back PrettyBoy. 2 new albums that I've had in constant rotation in the car are; Dark Time Sunshine - ANX and The Alchemist - Russian Roulette.
DTS may not be your thing, but I would definitely recommend The Alchemist. 20 odd short songs, most of which have a verse from a different MC like Action Bronson, Mr Mutha****in eXquire, Mayhem Lauren, Roc Marciano.......the list goes on.

The new Freddie Gibbs mixtape is available since last night:

    http://www.datpiff.com/pop-mixtape-download.php?id=m7073039

Not the biggest fan, Gibbs is on point, but the production is not to my liking. It's my main gripe with Gibbs in general, i'll just have to wait for more with Static Selektah or Madlib.

Havent listened to the new C-Rayz album yet, I'm gone off him alot in recent years.

Big Siyo/Siyo/Simon Young has released his debut album called The Real Simon Young recently. You can listen and buy on bandcamp:

I have been suprised at how good this is. It's actually really good. A few cheesy bits like talking about getting girls 'digits', but overall it's impressive.

Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Gonna stream it now and download later on.

No matter what the state of the production is Gibbs usually delivers, in my books.

I put up a post a week or so ago in which Statik was telling Freddie to drop some secret project. That may have been BFK, or it may be some other mixtape that he has done.

If it's another tape with Statik then it has to be released immediately. "Lord Giveth..." is a superb piece of work. It's my go to album for the last 2 weeks or more.

The MadGibbs album should hopefully be released this year. The way they are building up to it is the equivalent of a ridiculously hot girl teasing you for months before finally letting you sleep with her :P. Hopefully we won't have a case of blue balls after it all, and they actually put it out.
