I made a tribute video to the Batusi dance a couple of years ago. Seems fitting to share it again :'0(

Disregarding the fact he became a parody of himself in recent years, I'd say Adam West would've been a gas man to go for a pint with

It's the Gamecube one isn't it? I'm too traumatized to remember someone will correct me lol.
Yeah it's far for me too I've to stay overnight. Maybe if we organize a trip to Token eventually, you could come up for the day.

Something I'll definitely look into. The beers seem like a good laugh, and from what I heard about token is they're doing the barcade thing right. As long as the hosts are okay with it I'll do my best to make it along next time

Keep an eye on the thread sure. Hoping to get up to Token when I'm back from London (going seeing Nobuo Uematsu play with London Symphony Orchestra), a friend of mine is moved there temporarily and also likes games.
I'll have coins from the kickstarter

New here and don't know if this is the right place to ask. But what's the going rate for a nes? After seeing a friends collection I'm mad to start a collection of my own!

Not that much if you can blag one that isn't been sold by specialists or ebay.

Honestly I'd not get a NES. Get a Famicom instead. The NES hardware is a disaster with games not loading and due to the poor design of the cartridge slot and if you get a Famicom you also get to play games in 60 Hz without borders.

A NES is just such a pain in the ass to use.

Famicom, with an AV mod, coupled with a Nes to famicom adapter, and you're golden.

I'd love a fami myself sometime but is there anything you can do with the controller cable length though? I'm so clumsy I'd be afraid I'd pull it and knock it

You can buy a NeoGeo extension cable and hack it into a controller extension for the Famicom, then just use a NES controller.
You can also just buy a 3rd party Famicom controller from one of the importers on ebay, one with a long cable, the Honeybee one for example. Link to the Controller
Either of the above plug into the extension port on the front of the system.

Famicom has to be AV modded, are usually piss yellow, and controller length is a disaster. Pro's & cons all round, even with the original NES. A top loader NES is the best all rounder I think I remember reading, best of both worlds (native AV out, external controllers...though it's not a nice looking console).

I've done a little reading on the top-loaders and famicoms. What kind of money do they go for? The top loader looks really cool but i think it's RF only out with poor video on the earlier revisions.

Do either the famicom or top loader come up often in Ireland?

You're right, native RF out only! Could have sworn they had composite out...so unless you're handy modding then rule a top loader out.

It looks like i'd have to go modding (beyond me for now) to avoid AV issues on the top loader... The revised editions:
These versions were replacements for those who sent their original NES-101 systems to Nintendo with a poor quality video complaint. These models are extremely rare as they mostly came as replacement units from Nintendo, but the revised AV model was also found in stores such as Meijer and Radio Shack.

Get an original front loading NES then, & buy this for it - https://www.arcadeworks.net/blw

Best video, hassle free, common, no need to import etc

Have a look & see if you can get them more locally rather than paying shipping from the US. Also check if they're compatable with the EU Nes which is 50Hz only, if not, treat yourself to a US model which is 60Hz :)

Is 50Hz not better here? I read some consoles can have problems if played at the wrong Hz...
    What's the advantage of 60Hz?

50Hz is never, ever better :) The advantages are that 60Hz means games play at their full speed (not 17% slower than they should like with 50Hz), and you get full screen (unlike 50Hz which gives you large black borders at the top and bottom).

Some games are programmed for 50Hz, but the vast majority will work better at 60Hz

Very few games are coded for 50hz on nes. There's a few late games were they recoded the music to play faster so it's kind of correct at 50hz but the gameplay is still slowed down ****e.

I've bought replacement 72 pin connectors befor and they usually fail very quickly again. Still think av modded famicom or top, order is the way to go.

Just watch the Market Place here and Adverts for a Famicom that's already modded for composite, and then you're laughing

If you get a Japanese AV Famicom is has composite output out of the box. That's what I'd be going for in anyway. No RF, no 50hz and no blinking lights to worry about.

Yeah can't fault the AV Fami, except to say it's a bloody awful looking console :o The Famicom & Twin Fami are the best looking of Ninty's 8bit machines imo (twin fami being Sharp all the same)

Stop reminding me how good the Twin Famicom looks, I still need one of them.:)

Gorgeous machines :D I prefer the black/green combo, plus that model has the 6ft long controller chords too!

You guys are such peasants. It's all about the Famicom titler:

    famicom-titler02.jpg

You can play mario bros on it in crisp s video then spend the evening putting subtitles on sailor moon episodes.
