Following a long drought - November 2012 since my last win, I'd come to anticipate a week almost every week with 6000 units. I had 3 (€75) in August 2012 & 1 in September & 2 in November 2012. Last week, March 1st draw I won 2 x €50; so hopefully my numbers have found their way back into the bin :D.

I'll give them another couple of months and then decide whether to invest elsewhere.

With 6,000 PBs you should expect to win €50 about 9 or 10 times per year and €100 every 1.7 years, 'on average'.
Based on probabilities for March 2013

Might be a good idea to call first to ask if they already have your ID.

I had an issue recently where they didn't register the bonds purchased in the Post Office with all the ID stuff, because the person processing it in FexCo entered it incorrectly into their database.

The impact for me was that the new unregistered bonds were not entered into several draws because the ID flag was mistakenly set incorrectly. This was only sorted because I chased it up when the PBs didnt arrive in the post!

So worth contacting them by phone or email, before going to the hassle etc.

Thats not a bad return, just behind what the prevailing longterm PO rate at the time would have yielded but that rate has since been reduced. If you can maintain your winning pattern, you'll be ahead and from what I read here you appear to be one of the luckier bondholders?

I think PBs are played out. At the moment there are huge opps on ISEQ and for example BoI in particular offering potentially significant rewards in return for small risk.

May the force be with you!

    :)

That's a win every month since Dec, Which is bang on the odds of a €50 win every 3.64 weeks.

So let me ask about PB's whatever units you buy it stays there unless cashed and can only win the minimum (if lucky) opposed to gambling?

Yes, your bonds will be entered in the draw each week (Friday) when (as you say) "if lucky" you could win varying amounts from €50 to €20,000. You will not lose your bond money - what you will lose is any interest you might have accrued had you invested wisely elsewhere! There is also a matter of inflation as time goes on. You take your chance with everyone else and, who knows, you might win the million which is drawn last draw of each month. Worth 'gambling' on your lost interest?

If you put your money in Kerry Group on the 22nd of October 2008 it would now be worth €46,800. :pac:

Fair enough so excluding Kerry which is a share I personally have interest in you could have put it in any of the following Irish and UK companies with a good return Elan 21558, Ryanair 52000, Glanbia 48000 and CRH 23079 Paddy Power 18500 Greencore 96371. All excluding dividends which in the majority of cases outperformed the Winnings quite comfortably in most cases. Anything except a bank share would have trived and even with a bank share in a portfolio of Blue chips from ISEQ and LSE you would have neeted a better return. Say you include Anglo AIB and BOI with the above companies with an even spread for each entity of €2,000 per company the 6k bank shares may be worth say €45 today you would still have had a return of 28,878 excluding dividends of probably in excess of €3,000 over the 4.5 years. Now these are random companies I could have included others like Kerry, Smurfit, Kingspan, Aviva etc that may have performed better/worse but I would have been here for ages(Not Eircom or Aer Lingus as everybody knows not to touch Semi States long term even though I'd say Aer Lingus did ok over the 5 years). Don't forget Prize Bonds aresn't exactly safe they are Irish government bonds after all

Thank you for this erudite analysis. I'm digesting it with breakfast and the possibilities are endless, especially as I am well-named .. FoolsGold1 .. but I freely admit that I haven't yet managed to net any worthwhile fish. Thank you again.
